On our last visit to Maui we found this tiny local lunch and breakfast shop in Kahului. We stopped in for breakfast and ordered the "Da Piggy" breakfast which was a huge plate consisting of eggs, rice, portuguese sausage, bacon, french toast, and spam. Everything was delicious, especially the sausage and french toast. I couldn't believe how cheap it was!
The ladies behind the store were extremely friendly and immediately welcomed us to the restaurant. The seating is limited, with just a few tables, but we were able to grab a coffee and settle in as we read the paper and enjoyed our breakfast.
I hear the lunch here is also very good. The specials for the lunch menu are written on a chalk board and seem to be updated daily.
If you are looking for a truly local experience and abide by the mantra that the "hole in the wall" spots always have the best food, which I believe indeed they do. Then Okayo Tei is definitely a must try!
