“My home away from home”

I always refer to Anya's House as "my cottage that Anya takes care of for us". My hubby and I have been there I think around 5 times. I can't wait to go back. Anya is a delightful person. It's a real problem of whether to recommend this place or not. If I recommend it, it might fill up to the point that we can't go there when we want. If you need a social life, don't go there. If you love solitude, and love not getting any farther than the deck, this place is for you. Anya? we're coming back.....

“Slice of Paradise”

Anya's House was a slice of paradise. Anya was very helpful even though we only spoke on the phone. Tasteful European decoration of this charming solar-powered cottage. Fabulous lanai with ocean view and of the whole lush Kipahulu countryside. We found the outdoor shower/tub charming. It was a highlight of our trip to wake up early (relatively early anyway, we were on vacation....) and beat the crowds to the Halekala National Park, Kipahulu Area. The hike up the 400-foot Waimoku falls was spectacular.
We give Anya's house two thumbs up.

“Beautiful Spot But Not Completely Paradise”

So perfectly located near Oheo Gulch. You are able to get there and hike before the crowds have started on the road to Hana! I loved so much about the house. The dining area, the bedroom set apart from the great room, the wonderful choices of dishes to use! The brilliant banana birdfeeder drew so many delightful birds to the deck. On the negative side, I am not a cat lover and the 3 cats that come with the property are very friendly and want attention. They are outside cats and want to sit on your lap whenever you are on the deck. While we were there, late one night we were awoken by yelling and cursing nearby...perhaps a biker had come up the road uninvited. Not certain, but it was unsettling. The inside couches aren't comfortable but there is one great chair...and all the deck furniture, if you enjoy cats. Basically, a very unique spot...glad I did it once!

“Authentic Hana”

My wife and I spent a month traveling around Maui in Sept/Oct 2012, and of all the places where we stayed we enjoyed Anya's house the most. The area is tropical, gorgeous and tranquil and one of the few spots on the island where we felt we were experiencing the "real Hawaii." The cottage is beautiful, private, clean, cozy, practical and incredibly peaceful with amazing views. Anya is a wonderful host -- she for example provided us with delicious freshly picked fruit daily. A freezer stocked with croissants was another nice touch :) Staying here is a decision you surely won't regret!

“Remote, off-the-grid, serene escape”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013 for a stay in April 2013

Way up a twisty driveway off a narrow back road on the un-touristed side of Maui, this place is a delight. The electric company doesn't come within miles, so you're under your own power, and thanks to the mostly sunny climate, Anya's solar electricity is solid and the hot water is abundant. This is not your usual vacation rental, and so after a day or two we had tuned our activities to the rising and setting of the sun -- best to cook dinner before sundown. You need to make friends with the arthropods: the spiders in the garden weave webs of bowstring toughness, and the odd centipede slinks across the floor (so watch where you're walking in the night). But for us, the naturalness is the charm. Fresh-picked oranges for your morning orange juice. The only sound the wind in the trees. After three days here, we felt like we'd gone to another, nicer planet. Thank you, Anya, for letting people stay in this lovely place. It's unworldly, in the best possible way.
