“Great Ride”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

Love this place had an amazing time riding Freida, she such a sweet animal a bit spoiled but when people that don't know how to ride, ride these horses all day for weeks and months they are bound to pick up grab a bite habits. But still was a blast. Will do again in Jan 2013

This was just hands down an awesome experience! Priceless and to have a guide like Keone was just educating and helped you understand that Hawaii is more than just a vaccation destination there is a strong culture and history with the islands also!

“I was ready to not like this place...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

Mostly I don't like horse-ride attractions. You get old nags that only know how to follow the next horse's butt, and they follow the same old trail one after another from memory without ever looking up. Coming from someone who used to ride horses for fun, these attractions tend to be dull.

Not so with Maui stables! All the horses are rescues, ones that are written off by other people as untrainable. But don't worry, you would never know it from the way they behave. They were gentle and well-mannered, not a nip or anything from any of them. Although mine did seem to keep wanting to eat the surrounding scenery.

First of all, the trip out... we were staying in Ka'anapali, and Maui Stables called us regarding our reservations with them and directions to the stables. Believe them. It WILL take 2.5 hours to get there, no joke. On that side of the island, the road is no longer paved and some areas are barely wide enough for one car to get through. There are also many blind turns, so don't put a timid driver behind the wheel. You'll get a safety briefing, a helmet, and also probably a poncho when you get there, as it will probably rain. If you've got a camera, bring it in a Ziploc bag to keep the water out, because I guarantee the poncho won't keep it dry.

The ride itself takes you through Haleakala National Park, where the guide Keone will tell you all about the plants and their uses, and Hawaiian history and culture. Pick some guava fresh from the trees along the way, they grow wild everywhere! You'll trek through the rainforest and see a gorgeous view of the top of Waimoku falls. It's hard to describe, but do it, you won't regret it!

The highlight of our trip to Maui. The horses were gentle and the guide friendly and knowledgeable. This is a unique and wonderful way to experience the natural beauty this island has to offer.

“Amazing! Don't Miss This!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

As a person who owns horses and rides daily, this was the most fun, spiritual, educational and amazing horseback experiences I've ever had. All the horses were rescued from the mainland and have been given the best home any horse could ever wish for. They were amazing, beautiful and properly taken care of and obviously happy. Even if you've never been on a horse, you will enjoy and remember this for the rest of your life. Not your typical nose to butt ride. Our guide, Keone, was knowledgeable of the local plant life and their medicinal uses, as well as a great communicator and educator of the Hawaiian culture. We were taken into the Haleakala National Park where you are only allowed with a guide. As you are climbing up into the hills, you can smell the fresh Guava! I will always remember that smell. The views of the waterfalls and the ocean were breathtaking! This is a must do in Maui! The other stables don't even compare. This is THE one!
