My husband and I went to the Hotel Hana Maui for our anniversary vacation and really loved our time there. We participated in a few of the activities, like the ukulele lessons and the trip to the beach area where you can bodysurf. Both were fabulous and the staff really treated us well. The manager's reception was nice too - interesting to meet and mingle with other guests and the buffet dinners at the hotel were very good too. The room was fabulous - loved sleeping with the patio doors open and looking out at the ocean and listening to the waves crash on the shore. I would highly recommend being closest to the ocean - I think the experience would not have been nearly as nice without that. I was a little disappointed at the fact that the room shared a wall with another room, because in the photos it looked like you had a "hut" all to yourself", but we had excellent privacy during our stay. I missed the lei making lessons, but the concierge was very helpful and showed me how to do it, so I sat under a tree, picked up flowers off the ground and made my own lei - very cool! I remember that the gardeners stopped working so that I could enjoy the surroundings while doing this, so that was a nice touch. I had only one real problem with dining in our room. After ordering room service and being told that they could set up a candlelight dinner on the terrace, the food arrived 1 1/2 hours late, was cold and then they told me that they couldn't light candles in the room because it was against fire code. and they couldn't move a table to the terrace for us. So, when they left we did it all ourselves and salvaged our romantic anniversary dinner. The manager though handled it very professionally the next day and comped us the meal, so we got over it. Overall, it was a great experience and a perfect launching point for seeing some of the amazing sites in Hana.

This was our second visit to the hotel; in 2008 we stayed for 3 nights, this time we doubled it to 6 nights. It is hard to find anything unique to say about this hotel that you can’t read in other reviews. The hotel is indeed very special but not for everyone. If you want nightlife entertainment, dining choices, lots of daily planned activities and air conditioning…well, this is not the place for you. On the other hand, if you love to hear ocean waves, are easily impressed by magnificent scenery, enjoy just walking about and chatting with people and are looking for a quiet retreat this is the place for you!

The hotel is offering amazing deals right now and we stayed in the same ocean front cottage (with hot tub on the lanai!) that we stayed in the previous year for significantly less. Our cottage was huge – lots of space both inside and on the deck. Yes, the cottage could use a little fresh paint but gee, it’s Hawaii and on the ocean front. It is part of the charm. Yes, the cottages can be quite a long walk away from the main building but they have these cool electric powered (read that: quiet) golf carts that will take you wherever you want. For us, the walking justified the desserts!

The spa is very nice. Again, it benefits from the solitude of the area. Lomi lomi massage was fabulous!

My one complaint about the hotel is with the evening food choices. Breakfasts in the main restaurant were always lovely (great coffee!) with enough choices and home made jams. We either passed on lunch or ate at the Hana Ranch up the street from the hotel – very satisfactory sandwiches and salads. Staying this many nights at the Hotel, you realize pretty quickly that the nightly “specials” did not change much – if at all. So, we became resourceful with mixing appetizers and entrees to create meals. The food (and the entertainment!) at the Friday night luau was excellent. We visited the two stores in the town (Hasegawa General Store and the Hana Ranch Store) and purchased munchies to fill the stomach gaps, if any.

We love the vibe here. Very low key; very friendly. Many employees have worked here for literally decades. You have to love a place where the guests who are obviously frequent visitors exchange hugs with the wait staff with sincere inquiries on how everyone’s family is doing. Maybe some day that will be us….

My boyfriend and I booked this hotel for our first 2 nights in Maui so that we could fly in, do the Hana Highway drive on our first full day and then explore Hana before heading back around the island to Lahaina. Not only was it beautiful, but the staff was gracious, our garden cabin was large, clean and well situated on the grounds and the views were incredible. I also indulged in a fantastic spa treatment and enjoyed using their facilities (the cold dip, sauna, etc is free to guests). The only complaint is that the food is only mediocre, and I realize that coming from NYC maybe we're a bit spoiled - but it was okay, breakfast being the best meal served. There really is not any other options in Hana and the view during your meal is spectacular. The hotel also has guest services at Hamoa Beach (chairs, snorkel gear, showers) which is close by.

This is the type of accommodations you book if you want to turn off your cell phone for 2 days and wake up every morning to watch the sun rise and drink coffee on the lanai with whomever you are traveling with. The perfect detox from busy NYC. Would definitely go back.

This place can only be described as complete perfection. After an exhaustive search, I came here with a group of 12 very different guests for my wedding and all guests described it as incredible, amazing and PERFECT! There is a new chef and the food was amazing. This place is the best of everything... compete privacy and relaxation, with the modern amenities only a phone call away. This is complete luxury compared to the abysmal tourist chain resorts on the West side of Maui. All the staff is outstanding. Do not miss!!!!!

I have been going to Hotel Hana Maui for almost twenty years. It's never disappointed and I do recommend at least a ten day stay. Everything about this destination is lovely...it's simple and elegant in an old school way of luxury escape. The staff is like family, the grounds astounding, the Sea Ranch Cottages roomy and private. I've spent a lot of time on Maui and I love the Four Season's Wailea too (when I have less time and more $'s). Hotel Hana Maui is a true treasure if you want a real getaway. The bell staff, grounds people, the entire community, the nightly lounge shows , the quiet and the overall sense of peace have provided for me a true sanctuary. If you can "survive" without air conditioned, over the top luxurious suites (which can be found at the Four Seasons) you might thrive on the entire ambiance of this destination. Like I said, try to spend at least ten days in Hana. You can fly to Hana from Honolulu or Kahului and be picked up and delivered to the hotel (thus no despair about the drive). Yeah, there are some flaws but in my quest for an amazing hotel, far away from home but not all that far away from my home in California, this place works. No Evian spritzes but the banana bread (replaced daily), the ambiance and all are amazing. I guess I am repetitive about this very special place and I probably shouldn't recommend it ( because I want it to be secret) but I want it to always be there, thus I write. Again, I also enjoy the Four Season's at Wailea which is also perfect, in a different way. Do your research and make your choice. I've made mine.
