“Restorative Return to Maui Sanctuary”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013

This was my second stay at Maui Ocean Breezes in the past year. I brought my 16yo son with me this time for a week long trip. (yes, there is internet service!) It was every bit as tranquil and delightful as the first. KC is a warm and friendly host, the 2 bdrm private, detached cottage was fully furnished, comfortable, and tidy, and the property as luscious as ever with vibrant tropical vegetation, lovely morning songbirds, and tropical breezes which create natural air conditioning. Each room in the cottage has a ceiling fan which helps keep air circulating. A dip in the refreshing pool often capped our days of snorkeling, swimming, and exploring the island. A little laundry shed contains snorkel gear, boogie boards, and foam noodles for guest use, and the cottage is stocked with extra towels. Maui Ocean Breezes is centrally located making island exploration easy. We went to Hana and back in a day with time left and made multiple trips to the Makena area for excellent snorkeling. Nearby Paia has great food. No need for shoes here! My favorite part of each day was strolling about the grounds early in the morning in my bare feet with a cup of coffee in my hand, planning the day. People I encountered on my walks in the neighborhood were always friendly. I highly recommend the whispering bamboo cottage for a couple, small family, or a person looking for some quiet, meditative time in a beautiful area.

Green Features: Maui Ocean Breezes is green. They ask that all food material be composted in the ravine at the side of the cottage and that guests respect the tiny geckos (very cute and don't bother anybody) and other flora/fauna there. I believe they use green cleaning supplies as well.

I booked a trip to Maui for one week and stayed at Ocean Breezes; unfortunately, one day into our trip my fiance's father passed away in an accident. Rushing back home meant spending a lot of money on additional airfare, and I was concerned that I would also lose lots of money on the hotel. The financial loss added further stress to the death of a family member. Luckily the owner of Ocean Breezes, Anjali, was sympathetic to our situation despite the written policy stating no refunds. She refunded a large portion for the days which we could not stay. As far as hotel accommodations, the experience was amazing and we were very sad to be leaving so soon. We will be returning to Ocean Breezes when we come back to Maui!

My wife and I decided to take a summer trip to Hawaii and started searching the internet for a place to stay. We found Maui Ocean Breezes and could not be more satisfied with our stay. Everything lived up or exceeded the claims on trip advisor and website. We called and followed up with an email to pay for room and received quick and courteous response from owner. We arrived in Maui and plugged coordinates into GPS and found our way there. Upon arrival Casey met us and showed us our Studio, amenities, use of laundry, snorkels, chairs, ice chests, miscellaneous other items, and information on area. The little things like a fresh bowl of local fruit, banana nut bread (fresh baked), complete items to prepare meals in studio and Weber grill with charcoal was great. Grounds were immaculate and beautifully maintained with native trees, flowers, and decoration. The winds coming off the ocean kept the room cool and comfortable in our studio. The saltwater swimming pool was an invigorating and refreshing diversion after a day of exploring the island. Basically we enjoyed having a place to get away from crowds, but still close enough to visit all the crowded beaches, sites, etc. I would recommend the studio to any couple wanting place to get away, or a family by selecting one of the larger offerings by Maui Ocean Breezes. P.S. lots of places to dine, but I would try Colleens in Haiku 4 miles away.

This is a great vacation home for a family. We were welcomed with a spectacular view to the ocean and the sweet breeze. The property is very well maintained and the home is very comfortable. We also enjoyed the pool, which had just the right temperature and a great view. Haiku is on a hill and gets the most relaxing and calming ocean breeze. The property is constructed to take advantage of this luxury and therefore makes it a great place (with all the other good stuff) to spend your vacation time here.

We enjoyed Casey company, she was very attentive to out needs and brought us fresh fruits and veggies from the garden. It was a delight to meet her.

Aloha - my wife and I just spent two weeks (almost..) at Maui Ocean Breezes and we had a wonderful time. It has all the amenities one could want - a gorgeous view, delicious breezes, lush vegetation, a beautiful garden, and peace and quiet!. The pool was wonderful, perfect temperature and very nice when the trade winds slowed for a couple days. A few rain showers at night brought the plumerias to life again - I think they drop leaves when it is dry... - and the trades with their return kept the temperatures perfectly moderated. We arrived after a visit with our son in Kailua (O'ahu) and a stay at Waikiki - and the peace and quiet of Maui Ocean Breezes was marvelous. We prefer the quiet side of Maui - Lahaina can look like the Jersey Shore at times - and the restaurants around Paia and Haiku are wonderful - Colleen's at the Cannery, the Thai Food Vendors at the Cannery and by the Ballfield in Hana are EPIC - and Anthony's for coffee, tea and breakfast was wonderful. The unit we stayed in was spotless - patrolled by a house gecko so no bugs to speak of - and the view was so relaxing we sat on the lanai for hours just watching the ocean (a few whales breaching too...) and pitying the poor souls on the cruise ships we saw passing by out at sea. 15 miles from Kahului is wonderful - part way to Hana, close to Haiku and the Cannery shops and restaurants, easy ride to Haleakela, Hookipa Beach, Paia and if you must, Lahaina and the west side.

We circumnavigated the west side of the island again this year - past Hana to Lindbergh's grave and on to Kaleppa, Kaupo and the Tedeschi Winery - passing a wild west cattle roundup (using a helicopter to herd the steers) in the bargain, a wonderful trip.

If you want a good base to explore from, want peace, quiet, a view, gentle winds keeping you cool at night and a place for swim, and to hang out where you are staying - this is most definitely the place to book. The caretaker brought us fresh fruit and took marvelous care of us - and the owner was wonderful to work with. Mahalo nui loa.

Room Tip: All the units looked good.

This is a beautiful property with very helpful innkeepers located in an area of Maui with some of the best weather. It was perfect for us as we had a lovely patio to sit on each morning to have coffee and enjoy the view. We had plenty of room, access to a great pool and beach chairs and snorkel equipment for use on the rest of the island.

Room Tip: We stayed in The Hibiscus Hideaway.

After seeing the scores of ardently enthusiastic, reviews we naturally expected that Maui Ocean Breezes would provide exceptional accommodations at a reasonable price in a quiet, restorative, paradisiacal setting. But from the moment we arrived it was obvious that our expectations would be fulfilled many times over and it proved to be the ideal setting for a perfect vacation.
Casey welcomed us warmly, and throughout our stay she was helpful and attentive without being at all intrusive. The fresh coconut and fruits that she brought were great and the banana bread and key lime pie were definitely worth the detour from our diets. She recommended some great beaches too.
The kitchen was well-equipped and there were multiple convenient options for getting local fresh fish, produce, etc. Mana Foods in Paia has a wide selection and much better prices than Whole Foods or Safeway (both in Kahului). Mana Foods also has a deli with excellent prepared food-to-go, sandwiches, etc. including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. But the Maui Swap Meet in Kahului on Saturday mornings has the best (and cheapest) produce--fabulous papayas some less than $1 each!
The grounds and accommodations are exactly as described and pictured, with innumerable artistic details and flourishes. The owners have obviously devoted much time, energy and thought to even the tiniest of details. Though we didn't get to meet them, their presence was reflected everywhere on the property. We look forward to another visit.
