“Two weeks in paradise.....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

Aloha - my wife and I just spent two weeks (almost..) at Maui Ocean Breezes and we had a wonderful time. It has all the amenities one could want - a gorgeous view, delicious breezes, lush vegetation, a beautiful garden, and peace and quiet!. The pool was wonderful, perfect temperature and very nice when the trade winds slowed for a couple days. A few rain showers at night brought the plumerias to life again - I think they drop leaves when it is dry... - and the trades with their return kept the temperatures perfectly moderated. We arrived after a visit with our son in Kailua (O'ahu) and a stay at Waikiki - and the peace and quiet of Maui Ocean Breezes was marvelous. We prefer the quiet side of Maui - Lahaina can look like the Jersey Shore at times - and the restaurants around Paia and Haiku are wonderful - Colleen's at the Cannery, the Thai Food Vendors at the Cannery and by the Ballfield in Hana are EPIC - and Anthony's for coffee, tea and breakfast was wonderful. The unit we stayed in was spotless - patrolled by a house gecko so no bugs to speak of - and the view was so relaxing we sat on the lanai for hours just watching the ocean (a few whales breaching too...) and pitying the poor souls on the cruise ships we saw passing by out at sea. 15 miles from Kahului is wonderful - part way to Hana, close to Haiku and the Cannery shops and restaurants, easy ride to Haleakela, Hookipa Beach, Paia and if you must, Lahaina and the west side.

We circumnavigated the west side of the island again this year - past Hana to Lindbergh's grave and on to Kaleppa, Kaupo and the Tedeschi Winery - passing a wild west cattle roundup (using a helicopter to herd the steers) in the bargain, a wonderful trip.

If you want a good base to explore from, want peace, quiet, a view, gentle winds keeping you cool at night and a place for swim, and to hang out where you are staying - this is most definitely the place to book. The caretaker brought us fresh fruit and took marvelous care of us - and the owner was wonderful to work with. Mahalo nui loa.

Room Tip: All the units looked good.

This is a beautiful property with very helpful innkeepers located in an area of Maui with some of the best weather. It was perfect for us as we had a lovely patio to sit on each morning to have coffee and enjoy the view. We had plenty of room, access to a great pool and beach chairs and snorkel equipment for use on the rest of the island.

Room Tip: We stayed in The Hibiscus Hideaway.

After seeing the scores of ardently enthusiastic, reviews we naturally expected that Maui Ocean Breezes would provide exceptional accommodations at a reasonable price in a quiet, restorative, paradisiacal setting. But from the moment we arrived it was obvious that our expectations would be fulfilled many times over and it proved to be the ideal setting for a perfect vacation.
Casey welcomed us warmly, and throughout our stay she was helpful and attentive without being at all intrusive. The fresh coconut and fruits that she brought were great and the banana bread and key lime pie were definitely worth the detour from our diets. She recommended some great beaches too.
The kitchen was well-equipped and there were multiple convenient options for getting local fresh fish, produce, etc. Mana Foods in Paia has a wide selection and much better prices than Whole Foods or Safeway (both in Kahului). Mana Foods also has a deli with excellent prepared food-to-go, sandwiches, etc. including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. But the Maui Swap Meet in Kahului on Saturday mornings has the best (and cheapest) produce--fabulous papayas some less than $1 each!
The grounds and accommodations are exactly as described and pictured, with innumerable artistic details and flourishes. The owners have obviously devoted much time, energy and thought to even the tiniest of details. Though we didn't get to meet them, their presence was reflected everywhere on the property. We look forward to another visit.

Our third stay at Maui Ocean Breezes. This is the real Hawaii – lush grounds, ocean views, cool trade winds and peace and quiet and a great retreat from the crowds. The pool is an added bonus for the kids. Although it is slightly off the “beaten track” it is very close to Haiku and Paia which are both quirky and have great restaurants, shops and coffee - Colleens at Haiku has the best burgers and the coffee is great at Paia Bay Coffee. We stayed in the Hibiscus Hideaway which has a great verandah looking across the lawn to the ocean.

Casey was again a great host and is always there if you need something but respects your privacy. Apart from the regular supply of fresh fruit, this time she excelled with freshly baked banana bread, meringue pie and sparklers for the kids.
Also available are beach towels, guest laundry and snorkelling gear.

The pictures on the website are exactly how the place looks.

Just got back from a 2 week stay on Maui at the Maui Ocean Breezes. We stayed in the Studio and it was perfect for two people. The king size bed was comfortable, the whole place was clean, the ocean breezes kept the Studio at a comfortable temperature, great for sleeping. Although it is off the “beaten track” it was closed enough to several essential sites (beaches, shopping, restaurants, etc). The pictures on their website are exactly how the place looks.

Casey was a sweet-heart, she ensured we had everything we needed, even brought us coffee, milk and sugar on our first morning as we didn’t get to stop to pick up anything. She made us special treats to help us celebrate our anniversary. The grounds are lovely, even though is was ‘winter’ so not the usual amount of fresh fruit available, Casey provided us with bananas, limes, lemons, coconuts and tomatoes she has grown in her garden. We had access to beach towels, beach chairs, and there is even a guest laundry facility so you can do washing if need be. The whole experience was wonderful, thanks especially to Casey. If you want to be away from the crowds, yet close enough to some interesting small towns to make getting supplies easy, this is the place for you.

We ate at Colleen’s in Haiku, excellent breakfast and lunch, didn’t get a chance to try supper. We tried Paia Fish Market a couple time for lunch, excellent food but very busy and sometimes hard to get a seat at the communal tables. Another good Paia restaurant is the Flatbread Company, good pizza, they use lots of local ingredients. If you want something special, try Mama’s Fish House, very good food, nice setting especially if you get a table close to the front, however very expensive.

Our family will never forget our amazing stay here. The grounds are beautifully enchanting with hidden treasures around each corner. The owner is, I believe, an artist and there are beautiful pieces of art at the base of a palm or in the lawn etc..so fun to explore and find. We loved our stay in the cottage...which is painted so beautifully inside. We were up early and used the meditation room, hit the beach and slept soundly on their very very cushy beds. We will be back! oxxoxo

We stayed in the Hibiscus Hideaway for two nights in April 2013. We had spent five days in the Lahaina area and then one week in Kihei. We finished off our trip at the Maui Ocean Breezes so we would be closer to the Hana highway as we explored that side of Maui.

We enjoyed our stay in this unique setting. This property features a studio and apartment on ground level with the main residence above. There's also a separate cottage. The Hibiscus Hideway is the one bedroom apartment which has a curtained-off bedroom, bathroom, kitchen with table and small area with a futon and two chairs. There is also a very nice covered lanai where we enjoyed drinking our coffee and watching the sunrise.

The kitchen was adequately stocked for our needs, but we didn't cook much. There is no dishwasher, but they do supply dishwashing liquid and a dish drainer. The bathroom featured a jetted tub, but be careful when taking a shower in it because both my husband and I noticed it was very slippery.

The caretaker, KC, was very friendly and checked in with us everyday to see if we needed anything. She supplied us with papaya, limes, bananas, kiwis and tomatoes picked from the property which was a nice touch.

We particularly enjoyed the quiet surroundings and the nightly view of the stars against a very black sky.

I can think of only one drawback that may be an issue for SOME. Since they choose not to spray pesticides on their property, you may have to contend with Hawaiian cockroaches, spiders and centipedes. They have an information sheet in the apartment describing this. But that's the price you pay for being surrounded by orchards and lush greenery! During our stay, we had a small gecko in residence with us that enjoyed chirping occasionally in the night. We also saw one cockroach in our bedroom and a couple of small spiders.

Anjali (one of the owners) was very easy to work with. She responded to emails promptly and answered all our questions.
