“peace and quiet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2011

We stayed in the cottage on site which is nicely tucked away from the main house so there is a feeling of peace and privacy. Great to have so many facilities to use, full kitchen, washer/dryer. Collecting fruits and avocados to eat for our picnic was such a generous bonus. Nice and clean.

My only complaint and it seems minor but actually became a problem for us is that the seating at the house is just not comfortable in any way. It looks very pretty but the sofa especially is just not a place where you can cuddle up and relax for an evening - it's kind of like waiting room furniture; all small proportions and not plump and not something you can sit on for any length of time with a good book. Sorry, I loved everything else but our evenings lounging around the house were not as comfortable as we would have liked.

My boyfriend and I stayed here last week. We absolutely adored this place. Had great bfasts out on the back deck overlooking the ocean, benni was the consumate hostess and the place is filled with so much history! Ask her about it, so interesting. We stayed in the Malia room, it was perfect, clean, and ideal. Location is great for road to hana and haleakala. The bike place we used to go to haleakala is 2 mins away, which means A LOT when you get up at 230am to get there at 3am for the bike ride. Glad we didn't have to drive from a far away location.

Anyway, this place is ideal. You'd be a fool not to visit.

Greatly enjoyed our stay here in the Sunrise room, which was very spacious, bright and airy. Convenient for Road to Hana, Haleakala crater, and Mama's Fish House (what a view for dinner!).

Our host, Benni was very accomodating - coming out with a flashlight as we drove up to the house in the evening, giving us access to laundry machines when we arrived (as this was the second part of our trip), and even putting out breakfast 30 minutes earlier than scheduled our first morning as we indicated we wanted to be heading out early for the road to Hana.

The plantation home is lovely, and we enjoyed eating our take out dinner at the long dining room table and breakfast on the porch, but I felt loud walking on the wood floors from our room to the kitchen or dining room. Also, I had to carefully place the room shades for privacy, and with the windows open the thin shades would blow around so I felt like this room lacked a little privacy - in the event anyone came to the entry way - not that there is much of an issue with only two other rooms; for that reason, I might choose the bamboo suite (which we had originally planned, but were too slow to commit). I peeked in to the Malia room, and it's not as small as I thought it looked in the photo. Would be a fine, pleasant room to stay in for two.

We were worried a litle woried about no AC, but that was not an issue with the breezes, even in September.

Take the road leading up to the house very carefully/slowly and look for the white sign, we drove past the entry drive twice.

For the price, location and host, this place is an excellent, affordable option; not to say that I didn't enjoy the fancy resort we stayed at too (and which was made possible by saving money at the B&B). I'd recommend this place to friends.

It was just an absolute stroke of luck that we ended up here! I have never written another review on tripadvisor, but I simply must encourage anyone who is staying here to jump at the chance. Our other arrangements had fallen through (long story) and we found this amazing B&B at the last minute. From the moment we drove through the bamboo grove onto the beautiful property we felt we had come home. Benni, the loveliest innkeeper, greeted us and welcomed our 3 year old daughter like family. She is the perfect owner - warm and generous - and also respectful, offering plenty of privacy and space. We almost cried when we had to leave. We stayed for the first part of our visit in the Malia room - which is unbelievably economical for the very high quality of the accommodation - everything is immaculate and beautiful. The second half we stayed in her lovely 2 bedroom meadow cottage which is self-catering and not technically part of the b&b the only sad thing about that was that we missed seeing Benni every morning and eating our tropical breakfast in her house! I would recommend this place to anyone - and we definitely want to go back!

This was one of five places we stayed during a 10-day 25th anniversary trip to 3 islands (including a high-end resort hotel, another B&B, a condo, and a hotel). We chose Haiku Cannery Inn based on both location and price. (We had a rather busy schedule in Maui and knew we wouldn’t actually be at the B&B a lot, so we didn’t want to pay high-end prices.) At the end of our trip, we agreed that this turned out to be our favorite of all the places we stayed. Benni is exactly the type of person who should be running a B&B. She’s a joy to talk to, and so helpful without ever being intrusive. She embodies “aloha.” The house is absolutely lovely – so peaceful and pleasant. Everything was immaculate. We loved the general location too – close to many things to do, but away from the “touristy” areas. Finding this B&B was such a great stroke of luck in planning our trip! Now we just want to go back and stay longer!

We are so glad we didn't stay in one of the touristy, resort areas of Maui. Haiku is very laid back, with beautiful Hawaiian countryside, a small but interesting town center, and easy access to most of the island. The Haiku Cannery Inn is a beautiful, clean, and tranquil spot. The Meadow Cottage was perfect for a family - plenty of space and well-equipped for all domestic needs. The main house and cottage have lovely woodwork and art, and the grounds have many fruit trees - we loved the fresh limes, avocado and grapefruit. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful, while giving us all the privacy we could want. We loved every minute.

Even though I was supposed to stay here for vacation I had family issues that prevented me from enjoying the B&B. The owners were very gracious and refunded my fees. Their contract is clear you need to cancel at least a month before you receive most of your money. A deal is a deal after all. I cannot say enough kind words about the Haiku Cannery Inn. What a blessing and what a blessed group of people who own the business.
