Since this is the first review of Colleen's, I'll go into a little detail...

Colleen's is in Haiku, at the right end of the strip mall that also contains a grocery and across the parking lot from Hana Hou restaurant. Haiku is a little off the main roads (being Hana & Haleakala Hwys), but not all that far away -- just 2 miles mauka (mountain side) from Hana Hwy. The location of the restaurant makes it a great spot for those staying on the North Shore, a lunch stop on the way to Hana, or for those who want a very good dinner on the way back from Hana without stopping in Paia (which can be crowded, and some restaurants are a bit pretentious, Jacques!).

Anyway, the restaurant is open @ 6AM for breakfast and is open all through dinner. We were there for dinner, and while the place was busy, we did not have to wait for a table. Unfortunately, I'm writing this review after some time, so I can't tell you exactly what we ate, but I do recall that it was some fish dishes and they were very good. Colleen's is also known for their pizza. Service was very good and attentive without being intrusive.

I would equate the ambience to an old building or small warehouse converted into a restaurant, like would typically be found in some city -- for me it has an urban, trendy ambience. However, as is most things in Hawai'i, anyone and everyone was at Colleen's: several families together having pizza after baseball, friends meeting for dinner & drinks, and a few visitiors looking for a good dinner. So good, laid back aloha spirit.
