5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2013

we come back year after year (usually after 7 days of sun, sand and swimming on Maui) for the relaxation, quietness, peacefulness, and elegant luxury of the Lodge at Koele. Easily one of our top 5 places in the whole wold. Staff is so friendly, fun and sincere. Fun activities like croquet, lawn bowling, par 3 course, shuffleboard, billiards, and the incredible golf course, The Experience. The entire property invites you to sit back, relax, enjoy each other's company and let time slow down.

Room Tip: We've never had a bad room, its only 2 floors. Each location has something to recommend it. I pr...

We did not actually stay at this hotel as we stayed with friends while on Lanai. However, we did spend a fair amount of time here. A beautiful grand lobby, although we wish the decor had more of an old Hawaiiana feel to it rather than Restoration Hardware. We like Restoration Hardware, but we can see that at home. it seems out of place here. The chairs seem stiff and formal, rather than low and comfortable allowing easy access to a complete view of the surroundings and easy conversation with others. That said, the Lodge is in an absolutely beautiful setting. We enjoyed breakfast in the Terrace Dining Room as well as dinner in the evening. From 3-5PM tea is served in the lobby area. We enjoyed this very much. The bar offers half price drinks and appetizers from 5-6PM. From 7-9PM there is live music in the lobby. We were fortunate enough to enjoy the music of Kimo Garner the two times were there. A great place to enjoy an after dinner drink, or coffee and dessert.
The entire staff is so friendly and accommodating. It would be hard not to feel welcome here.
The grounds are just stunning and the orchid house is a definite must see. If you are here, take the time to walk around and explore.

This is a really lovely and relaxing hotel. I am very glad that I booked the hotel directly (and not using Expedia) as I was able to change my stay. The hotel staff is very accommodating. The only downside is there is nothing to do in Lanai - no fault of the hotel.

Staff was helpful and the lodge is beutiful. You can pay for activities like horseback riding, golf etc. But if you wish to stay busy after these activities there isn't much to do. This may be fine if it wasn't advertised as having daily crafts such as lei making, activities like hula lessons etc.
We wanted to participate in these things but no activities were available onsite. You could take the shuttle 20 minutes down to a sister hotel and they did have one craft activity there. No Kayaks available to rent anywhere on the island and the paddle boards were not available for rent at the sister hotel when we were told they would be there.

I guess I am used to a more active area with water polo, pool activities, hula lessons, and entertainment onsite.

It was cooler here and very Windy.

Aloha Janet,

Thank you for taking the time to share your honest feedback regarding your recent stay. I'm thrilled to hear that you found our staff helpful but sorry to learn that you were not happy with our activity offerings. We apologize for the misunderstanding about the frequency of our Ho'okipa Cultural Program. While we do offer a variety of craft and cultural activities throughout the week, the classes alternate between the two resorts. I hope you enjoyed horseback riding and golfing and had an opportunity to discover other activities such as hiking, the 18-hole executive putting course, croquet lawn, tennis, snorkeling at the beach and nightly entertainment. We would love to have the opportunity to welcome you back and would be happy to assist in arranging classes or water activities for you in the future. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please feel free to reach out to me directly at the address below.

Kind regards,
Alice Bouman

Have stayed here multiple times. Lanai is great. Very different from the other islands. This hotel is beautiful and there is so much to do. You've got hiking, golf, swimming, lawn bowling, croquet all there. There's also skeet shooting, horse back riding, scuba/snorkeling and much more close by. I rented a jeep one time to visit the Garden of the Gods and spent a day on a completely empty, pristine beach. The hotel also has a wonderful vibe and the staff is incredible. Food is also excellent.

The location of the hotel is absolutely beautiful but it is not what you have in your head when you think of Hawaii. The hotel is high on the hillside and the air is substantially cooler than the beach. You will/should bring some light, but long sleeve shirts and pants. The grounds are meticulous. Everything is in its place and the landscaping is color candy for your eyes. The golf course is worth walking (early in the morning before the golfers). It is probably the most beautiful golf course I have ever seen. We also like hiking the trail behind the hotel, which eventually leads to a beautiful overlook.

The hotel and grounds are so well thought out that there isn't a bad room in the place.

For food, we like the Terrace. The restaurant has a great view of the grounds, and feels very open.

It's all the little touches they do. Like when you are sitting in their amazing hot tub, an employee will randomly walk by and offer you a pineapple-mango-banana smoothie.

I adore this place.

We celebrated our 20th Anniversary at the Lodge. Incredible grounds, Orchid House and koi pond. Check out the chandeliers throughout the hotel.

Fun putting course and other activities, plus you can take the shuttle to Manele Bay for the beach. It's always sunny there.

Exceptional service and delicious meals. They also have nightly entertainment, and I liked that people were actually sitting around and talking, instead of playing with their phones.
