“Koele Lodge trashed!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

Stayed many times over the years. Read many of the reviews. Agree, magical place, peaceful, beautiful. Staff and service is second to none. A place to relax. But...the "Great Hall" is now not so great. Used be warm and comfortable with inviting seating around 2 fireplaces. Interesting, unique decor...where did those monkey chandeliers go? Now, generic furnishings with uncomfortable high back chairs. The music room is no longer. Pool no longer secluded with the hedging cut down. Pool seating replaced with leftover pool chairs from Manele. No umbrellas. Gardens greatly simplified, more like a giant lawn. Various garden ornaments and plantings gone. Waterfall and bamboo grove bare. Many 5 star rating now. Can you imagine, it was even better? Hate to be harsh but...Always look forward to going back but now...???

Aloha nobu0,

Thank you for taking the time to share your honest feedback regarding your recent stay. While I'm pleased to learn you have stayed with us many times in years past, I'm sorry that we did not meet your expectations this time around. As you noted, the Resort is truly a magical and beautiful property in Hawaii's upcountry. We have recently completed a series of resort enhancements at both properties - from new decor and landscaping to new dining options, all in the hopes of elevating the guest experience. Again, I'm sorry to learn that your stay did not meet your expectations of past visits and I truly appreciate your honest remarks. I would very much like to have the opportunity to discuss your experience further with you and can be contacted on the email address below.

Warmest regards,

Alice Bouman

My husband and I spent 10 glorious days at the Lodge at Koele and came back to Vancouver relaxed, revitalized and extremely pleased with our experience... From the moment we arrived at the Lodge the staff and surroundings were truly exceptional.. Food and service outstanding..
If you want a "special place" to call your own little secret book a vacation in Lanai at the Four Seasons "Koele"...

We had a wonderful time up at the Lodge on Lana'i. It was so different from most Hawaii vacation destinations--secluded, serene, mountain air, chilly nights. The pace slowed even more up at the Lodge than at home on the Big Island. I would definitely recommend the experience. The food is great, the grounds and gardens exceptional, the rooms delightful. My only caveat is that all of the pillows were the same--and unfortunately, they were all "too" fluffy for me--they had that "new" feeling and did not compress at all. I had to sleep without a pillow because I had failed to bring my own old, squishy down pillow.
The shuttle drivers are a wealth of information regarding local customs, times things are open, best places to catch a quick meal in town, etc. Also, the Cultural Center is really a great place to brush up on local history. The pool at the Lodge is open 24/7 and there are 2 jacuzzis, so don't forget to bring your swimsuit! Oh, and the bathrobes and slippers--Oh! so comfy!

Room Tip: I imagine all rooms will be great here!

Aloha MaryruthinHilo,

Greetings from the upcountry! Thank you for taking the time to hop over from the Big Island and discover the beauty of Lanai. You captured the setting of the resort perfectly - secluded, serene and quite tranquil. I'm glad you enjoyed exploring our beautiful gardens, dining in our exquisite restaurants and also experiencing the culture, including the Lanai Heritage and Cultural Center. I appreciate you also letting me know about the pillows and is a very good point that we each require different types of pillow firmness/softness. I will share this with our Director of Housekeeping for future inquiries. Thank you again and I hope to see you on island again soon.

Warmest aloha,

Alice Bouman

When you arrive at the Lodge at Koele, you would think you have been teleported into the country side in England compared to the beach side, ocean-view of Manele Bay. It is ideally situation if you want to explore the rest of the island as the Jeep rental location is a short shuttle bus away (or a 15 min stroll). The great hall is also a great place to be on the weekends as the live musical performance are a lot of fun. Do note that it is a little cooler at the Lodge compared to Manele Bay so dress appropriately. Also know that if there are no private functions going on at Manele Bay, you do have access to all of the facilities there too with a shuttle bus that will take you there as well.

This place is on the top of Lanai. There are several things to do in the area if the resort. They including yard games, a nice putting green with sand and water, pool and a library and game room inside. You can easily walk to Lanai City.

This resort is located in the middle of the island at higher elevation that provides cooler temperatures and an abundance of outdoor recreation. From the croquet to horse back riding and trail blazing, you can enjoy the best of what Lana'i has to offer. If it is the beach you desire, then take the 20 minute shuttle down to their sister resort at the beach. The customer service at this resort is remarkable. Everyone that works here is friendly and always asking if you need anything. The rooms are well kept and they really thought of everything to try and make your stay peaceful. Overall, if you want to relax with a friendly staff away from the hustle and bustle of Oahu and Maui, then this is the place to be.

This was our second trip to The Lodge and this time we had the most wonderful wedding there! The wonderful staff not only took care of all of the event planning, everyone seemed to share in the joy of our day! Customer service is exemplary and the hotel is so peaceful and quiet and just beautiful. We had a fireplace in our room and the staff came to build a fire for us whenever we wished. We wanted for nothing! Leaving this beautiful place after our wedding was very difficult! We will most certainly return!
