We had a wonderful time up at the Lodge on Lana'i. It was so different from most Hawaii vacation destinations--secluded, serene, mountain air, chilly nights. The pace slowed even more up at the Lodge than at home on the Big Island. I would definitely recommend the experience. The food is great, the grounds and gardens exceptional, the rooms delightful. My only caveat is that all of the pillows were the same--and unfortunately, they were all "too" fluffy for me--they had that "new" feeling and did not compress at all. I had to sleep without a pillow because I had failed to bring my own old, squishy down pillow.
The shuttle drivers are a wealth of information regarding local customs, times things are open, best places to catch a quick meal in town, etc. Also, the Cultural Center is really a great place to brush up on local history. The pool at the Lodge is open 24/7 and there are 2 jacuzzis, so don't forget to bring your swimsuit! Oh, and the bathrobes and slippers--Oh! so comfy!
