“Highest quality of service with a beautiful ambiance at Koele”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

Our family frequents the Lodge at Koele very often. It is our "go to" vacation spot. This was the first time we were there during the holidays and although it was extremely busy every staff member were all so helpful and accomodating.

Each staff member at the front desk including the manager Misa were so friendly & attentive to our every need. My children have continuously been spoiled by the wait staff and bartenders when ordering their food exactly the way my children want things. Jesse at the bar was so patient and accomodating every time we put in our food and beverage orders as we were watching football.

We keep On going back because of the gorgeous grounds, facility, and over the top excellent staff.

As a resident of Maui I found The Lodge At Koele to be more than I expected. The grounds, staff, room and food was everything I wanted and more. You will not find a more relaxing place on earth. The seclusion was perfect for me. (It may be too secluded for some) I felt as if I were a V I P the entire time. Just strolling the grounds took away all my stress.

Room Tip: This place is unique.I can't imagine a bad room.

This resort is the absolute best of what Hawaii has to offer. Excellent location, excellent service, and overall a great experience. Transportation services, housekeeping, bar and restaurant service, pool service all provided with a smile and prompt attention to detail.
I find the location to be very unique to the rest of Hawaii, and as a resident enjoy the "difference" the experience at the Lodge provides.

Room Tip: We enjoy the rooms in the actual lodge building overlooking the front lawn.

A must do for your bucket list. Hawaii 25 years ago and top notch service and accommodations. Family not so much but romantic as heck!!
The ability to enjoy both properties on the island is awesome. Go down to the beach and have wonderful service there then stay in the old school plantation resort up top that is so peaceful and relaxing. Bar is awesome for happy hour.

My wife and I just returned from an eight day stay at The Lodge at Koele. This is a wonderful property which is excelled only by the excellent staff. We are frequent travelers and try not to be overly demanding. However, we also want great value and a top notch experience. The Lodge delivers in all areas. Imagine you lived long ago and owned your own tropical mountain lodge that was visited by you and your friends and that you were cared for by a large number of extremely friendly, appropriately attentive staff. When you ventured around the estate you saw as many staff as fellow visitors. You never felt crowed. You were able to visit multiple, on grounds sites for picnics, reading, lawn bowling, croquet, etc. Picture the Hawaiian version of "Gosford Park" or "Downtown Abby". That is the experience. Now if you crave the beach and sea, the shuttle will cart you down to the Four Season's Menele Bay resort for seaside, golf, hiking, snorkeling, etc. Near the end of our stay we took the ferry to Maui for a day. Maui is pretty, but many of its venues can be very crowded. This Lodge is a stark, impressive alternative. Oh, and even if you have never tried it, visit the Sporting Clays center set in the middle of an Ironwood forrest. Your whole family will love shooting the clay birds that fly out from the trees. And the highly skilled staff will make sure everyone is a sure shot. It is very fun.
Now I should mention one area that needs improvement. The food at both Four Seasons Lana'i locations is uneven. There are some good items...and some others.
But the entire experience there is memorable...in a good way. Oh, and did I mention that the staff rock? :-)

Room Tip: Don't assume that the most expensive rooms are always the best. Ask to see a couple. There are a...

I'll start by mentioning we have stayed at the Lodge more times than we'd like to admit. The staff, who is exceptional, know us too well! We have seen managers come and go, food menus come and go and now Island owners come and go.

Pro - The new furniture looks fabulous. Cons - Most of the new furniture is also very uncomfortable. And, there is nowhere to eat appetizers, or play cards etc. anymore except on foot stools that I saw people cover with towels while children climbed freely on all of the furniture. Gross!

Pro - The copper kettles out in front of the Lodge look pretty. Con - The smoke blows directly into the shuttle buses, hotel lobby and rooms, and smells terrible.

Pro - The hedge removal around the pool actually opens up the area and looks inviting. Now there is a panoramic view of the property when lounging at the pool. Con - Those hedges provided shelter from cold, very windy!, cloudy days that Lanai City has most days.

Pro - The number one reason to stay at the Lodge is that you have "rights" to the pool and beach at its sister property Manele Bay. However, we were told that this is no longer case and in 2013 the pools are for the individual hotel guests only. This makes it nearly a deal breaker to stay at the Lodge. Why, stay here when I can stay at Manele and have everything?

Pro - The Terrace. For years, this was the best restaurant of both Four Seasons hotels. Now, it is not. It is a "bistro" and 2/3 of the restaurant is located in the lobby where beautiful couches and chairs used to be by the fireplace. Besides the lackluster appeal of eating in the lobby, the menu has changed and is extremely limited. Most of the guests appeared to be eating from the bar menu while dining at the Terrace. We stayed at the hotel nine nights and only ate dinner there twice. The rest of the time, we ate at Manele Bay at either One Forty or Nobu - both excellent restaurants.

However, breakfast at The Terrace, is very good and provides more menu options than Manele Bay. We had breakfast at The Terrace eight days and went to Manele Bay once. The Terrace wins breakfast hands down.

Pro - The bed is extremely comfortable and the hotel is quiet at night. Con - You cannot adjust the air conditioner in your room. There is a thermostat but it does not work as the temperature is controlled throughout the hotel on a different circuit. It has been this way for years.

So, to sum it up this hotel is absolutely gorgeous. The service is spot on. But, the rooms are in need of refurbishing and the way in which the lobby is set up is no longer inviting.

If you have never been to the Lodge, chances are you will love it. However, I'd suggest staying a maximum of three nights or you will be probably be bored out of your mind, and cold (unless you are still able to spend the day at the pool at Manele Bay).

If you are returning to the Lodge, this is a heads up. It's different.

FYI - Manele Bay has also had some big changes and it is much improved!! ...more on that in another review for this hotel.

Room Tip: All rooms are good. The hotel in general is very quiet in the evenings. The grounds are gorgeous a...

Aloha goldielvr,

Thank you for taking the time to provide us feedback. We truly value your loyalty to the resorts and it's wonderful to learn you have been a frequent guest for so many years. Glad you were met with the same exceptional and warm service from our staff that you have come to know and love. The Lodge was actually just ranked among TripAdvisor's top 10 overall hotels in the U.S. and top 10 luxury hotels in the U.S., which is truly a reflection of the service, experiences and fantastic accommodations. As you noted, the Resort recently completed several property enhancements, which includes new furniture and the overall design aesthetic. I have shared your feedback with our executive team, including our executive chef, so that we may identify areas to modify. Our priority is, and remains, to offer guests an exceptional experience and I hope we have the pleasure to welcome you back to the Resort again soon. If you would like to discuss your stay further, please feel free to contact me directly.

Warmest aloha,

Alice Bouman

We stayed here with our extended family in June and loved every minute of our stay. I have visited the Hawaiian Islands over 30 times and have been to all parts of all islands. I can tell you the Lodge at Koele is very special! It is unlike anyplace else in Hawaii.

We took the ferry over from Lahaina and we greater at the dock on Lanai by the hotel with leis and the bus driver loaded our bags and we were on our way.

The grounds of the hotel are second to none. It reminded me a lot of New Zealand. The main lobby is HUGE with 2 fireplaces and lots of room to spread out and relax. The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms are big too. Our bed was way too soft and when we asked if anything could be done, within the hour a new firmer mattress was installed which Wes the perfect firmness. How is that for service?

I liked this hotel because you could spend time down at the beach and then come back to Koele to get away from the hot sun. And I feel the Lodge at Koele is much nicer than the Four Seasons down at the ocean. The food is MUCH better at Koele as well.

We could not get our fill of lawn bowls, croquet, and long walks around Koele. We also found Lanai to not be anywhere near as crowded as the other islands can be. We will be back someday!
