“Pali Ke Kua #220 is the best condo we've stayed at”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2011

My wife and I stayed at Pali Ke Kua #220 from April 13 to April 24, 2011. We have been visiting Kauai since 2001 and have stayed at many very nice condos, but this one was the best. It is a top floor, corner unit in a building of four units with a magnificent view of Bali Hi and mesmerizing sunsets. It was the best maintained and cleanest of any condo we have stayed at. It has an efficient layout and modern appliances, comfortable furniture and ideal location. The St. Regis Hotel is an easy walk and we ate breakfast there on the lanai with its infinity pools and magnificent view of Hanalei Bay, Bali Hi and many small mountain waterfalls. Groceries, banking, post office, restaurants and small retail shops are about 2 miles away. A larger retail shopping center and more restaurants are located in Hanalei, about 5 miles from the condo. Several great beaches are also close by. The complex that #220 is located in has a black topped trail to a wonderful private beach. Although to us the trail is steep we saw many couples with children routinely travel it. The unit's lanai is larger than it appears in the photos of the unit and we spent many hours relaxing there. From it we saw a few whales, surfers, sailboats and a daily trek of two long boats with paddlers racing across our view. They had more energy than we did. We had a wonderful time and plan to stay at this condo when we return to Kauai. Also, Suzanne, the owner offered invaluable advise even though we had been to Kauai many times before. She is a very nice lady.
Also we had many visits from a Cardinal on the lanai and the area below the lanai attracted Hawaiian Geese on a regular basis. There was a resident Gecko who would occasionally scold us for invading his territory.
We highly recommend this condo.

We stayed at PKK #102 for one week. It is a beautiful unit with amazing views of Bali Hai and sunsets. BUT, if anything goes wrong, beware! We had to live with no hot water for days, due to the water heater having problems. Although we called the owner, he didn't seem to apologize for it ruining our vacation and was offended that we asked for some compensation! We were in a bind, since we paid for the rental up front and wasn't able to move to another unit. It added stress to our vacation and was a major inconvenience. Imagine coming home from the beach, covered in sand and sea salt, and not able to shower before dinner plans! Unfortunately, we will stay at another Pali Ke Kua unit or at Pu'u Poa the next time we go to Kauai.

Gorgeous views from ocean front condo. Nice laminate wood floors, nice furniture. No grill, really a bummer for us. We arrived late at night and couldn't see to unlock the combination door. Had to call someone for assistance. The kitchen was clean and well prepared for cooking. The levelor windows were dirty, we found 2 bugs, c.r., the draperies are in very bad shape. The sheets had dryer stuff in them.

Kauai Vacation Rentals were very good to work with. The property at Pali Ke Kua is very clean with well manicured grounds. The view is incredible. Both ocean and specatular view of mountains and Bali Hai. Condo 201 is the first bldg closest to the street. Steps up to condo and steps down when you get inside. Would not work for someone with disabilities. You don't need an alarm clock because you start to hear car traffic promptly at 4:45am. Assume it is people going to work at St. Regis at the end of the street. The bed had an old mattress that was very lumpy & sagged in the middle. Long since needing replacing. Condo has no A/C but who cares..leave the screens open & fans on..with ocean breezes you actually get chilled. The afternoon although gets the direct West sun. Can get warm. Upstairs is perfect for leaving the doors open at night. The condo has all the kitchen utensils, beach chairs, washer & dryer. The condo was fine other than the mattress. The path to the beach is very strenuous. The local surfers park in bldg #1 lot taking up visitor prkg to surf from Hideways Beach. Hideaways is very popular for snorkeling too. Can be difficult on good surfing days, but they leave by night fall. Hanalei is 10 minutes away & lots of fun. Don't forget to get a shave ice with the macadamia nut ice cream at Paradise. Hanalaei Dolphin is very good...sit outside to enjoy the incredible view. Grocery store in Princeville 5 min away. Ask to sign up for customer rewards card to get great discounts on your purchase. Same applies for Safeway in Kapaa. If you have a rewards card on the Mainland (ex:Randalls - look it up by your phone number) it works too. Real savings! There is a Walmart, Kmart & Costco on the island. The shave ice at Ono Ono Shave Ice is huge with lots of flavors to choose from. We will return to Pali Ke Kua again & again, just pick another bldg & condo. The views are incredible from many of the other blgs also.

Mattress in condo = $1.00
View from Condo = Million Bucks

After month of research on the internet we decided to rent Pali Ke Kua 102 for our 2 week Kauai vacation in July. We loved it! The view is so beautiful it seems unreal. I never wanted to leave again! My favorite place were the comfortable lounge chairs on the lanai overlooking the ocean. The condo is nicely remodeled, very clean and has beautiful furniture, much nicer than you would find in most vacation rentals. There is a lot of attention to detail and we felt right at home. The kitchen has new appliances and the bathroom has nice tiles, The A/C is a plus but the condo has such good cross ventilation that we hardly ever used it (in July!!) It's a stand alone A/C unit and it takes up some space in the otherwise very beautifully furnished bedroom. You have amazing views from the comfortable couch, the dining room table, even from the kitchen.I usually don't like cooking during a vacation but because there was such a nice view from the kitchen I enjoyed cooking some Hawaiian meals. There is no better, more romantic place to enjoy dinner and drinks than the dining nook and the lanai of this condo. In my opinion it even beats sunset drinks at the St.Regis. The condo is on the small side but definitely big enough for a couple and it felt very cozy. Yes, you do hear the road if you really strain to hear it and if the wind is right. But I am kind of sensitive to noise and it never bothered me. I was worried about hearing noises from the condo above and, yes, once or twice in our 2 week stay we heard something - but so faintly that it never disturbed me. We felt very private. Sometimes we forgot that we are in a condo and not in a single house because when you are inside or on the lanai you don't see any other condos or neighbors at all. We rented through Peter Carlseen and felt very taken care of. I felt they went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. All Pali Ke Kua condos are individually owned and some of them looked pretty old and in need of remodeling. This is one of only 2 condos with A/C in Pali Ke Kua and one of the most beautiful and clean ones. Pali Ke Kua has private access to a beach that is otherwise inaccessible. You just walk down a steep, paved path for 2 minutes and there is that beautiful, deserted beach with the best snorkeling on the north shore (in summer) We hope to return soon!

My wife and I stayed four nights in October 2010. The two story unit is ideal for one or two couples. There are two large bedrooms with king-size beds and two large attached bathrooms. The unit has a very good cross breeze when windows are open. This is partly helped by the layout which is more vertical than deep. The kitchen is well equipped. There is a nice lanai with a terrific ocean view. We found the bedroom to be very quiet and were not disturbed by roosters as we were elsewhere on the island. The owner Mary Scott was very straightforward and easy to deal with. She made sure we had everything we needed. I would have no hesitation about staying at this unit in the future.

This condo was wonderful! What a View! Extremely clean. We can't wait to go back. Make sure you get one facing the ocean and Bali hi. The best place we ever stayed for a reasonable price. 1/3 mile from the St. Regis hotel and I think we had the better view than that 5 star hotel and we didn't pay that price. I liked the fact that we were in a condo and it was very quiet and beautifully landscaped and clean. We didn''t go to restaurants because none of them had as good a view as our dining area and lanai. It was perfect!
