“Pack a camera and lots of balls!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2014

Incredibly beautiful and very challenging course. I lost probably 6 balls, and was told 6-12 is quite normal. Absolutely breathtaking course.

“Loved the course, very challenging and in good shape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2014

This has been our favourite course to play throughout our golf holiday between Maui and Kauai and we have played 10 GCs (Kapalua Plantation, Wailea Gold and Emerald, King Kamehameha, Kauai Lagoons, Makai, Kaanapali Royal and Kiahuna). We absolutely loved it and found it to be very challenging, you have to place your shots on several of the holes, not much margin for error there. We had spoken to some othere people who had told us to bring many golf balls and we both did but did not loose as many as anticipated which is good. Would definitely return if back in Kauai. The fairways and greens were in good shape and the customer service upon arrival is just phenomenal. The marshall briging you a pice of pineapple is a very nice added touch as well as being given the club's tag at the end of the round. We also ate a The Tavern afterward and it was really good.

“Have lunch at The Tavern, and then let the course eat your lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2014

I had to play this course, mostly to say I have played a Top 20 (as rated by Golf Digest). This is one tough course! Bring plenty of balls as there are holes that will dare you, holes that will, frustrate you, and holes that will simply humble you. There are some great views here. I especially enjoyed hole #6 that came back towards the coast. Follow that with a par three over a bit of, well, let's say gully. Hole # 10 was 515 from the white tees, and this par 5 looks like a question mark from the air. Hole #12 has a very elevated tee box, and hole #13 gives you a little waterfall behind the green.

I had to deal with rain, but that was five minutes of drizzle, and 55 minutes of dry out time before the next sprinkle. The carts do have club covers, and there was a large golf umbrella in the cart. Sadly, the recent rains meant cart path only. This can extend your round a bit, especially if the single ahead of you doesn't know to take more than one club just incase.

Our tee time was 1:45, and we saw the cart girls on #2, and then about 3pm, they did a "last call." This was odd to me. Nice little touch was the fresh pineapple the marshall brought around.

Overall, this was fun. It is extremely challenging, especially since I played Makai in the morning. I preferred Makai, but if you on the island for a few days, give this one a shot.

“Toughest course I have ever played.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2014

EXPECT what I said above to apply to you. Mr. Trent Jones has laid this out to reward and punish. You cannot walk up to the tee and swing away. If you hit the shot you wanted, you are rewarded. If you miss by a little, hope it is in the sand or still in play. If you miss by more than a little, drop your next ball and take the penalty. The is very little 'recovery' shooting here. In fact, the starter went with us to the first tee and explained "there isn't a flat lie on the course. If you inner voice is telling you to lay off, listen. You can have a great time 2 ways. You can play what the course gives you or you can swing away. Both will be fun; the second will cost you a lot of golf balls".

You really need to think about every shot, which isn't for every golfer. My 9.5 handicap deserted me that day, but I would love to go back and try this course again. AND, a nice course employee come around with slices of pineapple during the round. Very nice touch and a little salve in the golf wound.
