Kauai is a beautiful island and worth the trip. The Cliffs is situated in a beautiful location. You need a rental car to see the rest of the island. There is no access to below the cliff from the front of the property. We didn't explore beyond there. Lovely accommodations.

Room Tip: Ocean view is the best!

We are just finishing up our week at The Cliffs and have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property is well located for any adventures on the North shore and close to Hanalei and Kileaua. Our unit in the 700 bldg. is on the top floor and has an excellent view. We have been watching whales daily and Albatross are flying overhead all day long.. I highly recommend the 700 bldg. for its outstanding ocean views. My only negative is that there are NO elevators in any building and I have a bum hip, so it has been fairly inconvenient for me but if that is not an issue for you, top floor is highly recommended. The top floor units have loft bedrooms with 2 queen beds so our unit easily sleeps 6. Everything was very tidy and clean and the unit has 2 bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen with magnificent views and all of the dishes, pots, pans, you would need. We prepared most breakfasts and some dinners. We loved the 2 lanais as well...one off the bedroom, one off the main living room facing the ocean. We sat on the lanai most of the time and ate many meals there. We definitely recommend The Cliffs as we have had a very enjoyable time and would return. Also, the place is very quiet for sleeping, which is a big thing and not so great in some Hawaii places we have stayed. I come to Kauai every year and have stayed at many places. The Cliffs is amoung the best.

Room Tip: Ask for the 700 building for great ocean views. No elevators, so keep that in min d if you have mobi...

This was our 2nd visit to Kauai in 3 years, and our first trip bringing family. My wife and I have been extremely happy with rental properties during our recent beach vacations. Cliffs at Princeville in building 7 is where we would highly recommend anyone looking to rent. Our rental was a 3rd floor, corner unit with loft. The back lanai had unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean, and each morning we were greeted with multiple humpback whale breaches. Each rental property has a similar layout, but the interior decoration and amenities may vary.

Our arrival into Lihue airport was delayed five hours b/c of aircraft issues in Chicago. We arrived to the Cliffs at Princeville around midnight. Having called the front desk while delayed in Chicago, we were told security would meet us on arrival to the property with our parking pass and keys to the unit. Princeville is 45 minutes to an hour (depending on traffic) from the airport, and our preferred destination when on Kauai. Foodland (grocery) is 5 minutes from the condo, with everything needed for a successful stay. Check-in the next morning was efficient, and we were given key cards for the workout room / pool access. The property is a time share, but we were never pressured into any meeting or "give away" for attending a sales pitch. Staff is on hand to assist with booking island activities, but using Trip Advisor before our arrival was far more effective for us.

The staff will mail post cards or boxes, but as a point of clarification you must have those items already stamped. I'm not sure how much this helps outside of postcards, as there is a USPS facility in Princville with limited hours. Roosters roam the grounds, but we never found them bothersome or alarming. A covered BBQ area along the Cliff's cliffs sets a beautiful backdrop. I was extremely impressed with how clean the grounds are kept. Unit cleaning is optional, and we would recommend if staying more than 4 days. Staying in Princeville during the winter season (aka rainy time) should not deter you. My negative marks against the resort revolve around the pool and hot tub. There are two hot tubs, one for under 18 and the other adults only. The under 18 hot tub has been broken for six weeks, as other long term unit owners told us on site. The adults only hot tub has a 30 minute limit for guests. The impression we received is this hot tub is reserved for unit owners, as several evenings we found the same guests occupying this area for hours. The owners would swap out for rum punch runs during orientations at the nearby rec building, but they never made space for others. Staff is aware of this, but it would appear unless you own a unit they don't seem too concerned. Petty, sure but we're also paying customers.

If you're looking for a relaxing setting on the north shores, consider the Cliffs. Customer service isn't a strong point, but it wasn't a deal breaker either.

Room Tip: Find a unit in building 7. Local fowl sometimes occupy the balconies on the first floor, so we'd...

Aloha from The Cliffs,
Mahalo for your review of our property and I'm happy to hear we met most of your expectations. I wanted to let you know personally we are working to correct the issue with the front jacuzzi.
We hope to have the parts any day now so the jets will again be operational. I was sorry to hear about your challenges with our "Adults" hot tub, it is a very popular place in the winter time, especially when we are running a full house.
We hope to see you again when your travels take you back to Kauai.

We stayed here for a week mid Feb 2014.

We were in a one bedroom unit and loved the spaciousness of it. Very clean. Two full bathroom, a living room, big bedroom. 2 tvs (we hit a rainy week- so this was nice to have). Two huge patios.

The kitchen has just about everything a person needs, toaster, microwave, blender, pots, pans, dishes. Fridge with ice maker. The BBQ areas are covered, which was nice if it was rainy.

The pool area was very nice and clean, there are 2 hot tubs, one for adults only that was a little warmer. We hit the hot tub in the evenings (6/7 of them), even in the rain it was nice to relax in the evening.

The grounds were lovely and well maintained.

The cons of this place were:
Much like other reviews say, the wifi was terrible, we could probably get on 30% of the time. On our deck and outside was a little better but still not the greatest.

The staff was ok, not the friendliest or most helpful, but not terrible either.

We would stay here again, Princeville is a beautiful place, we loved Anini beach, just a short 10 minute drive away.

Aloha from the Cliffs,
Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback, we do appreciate it. Regarding the wi-fi signal issue, we have identified the problem and have already made arrangements to boost the signal throughout the property. The improvements and upgrades as scheduled to begin March 10th.

This is a great property located in Princeville on the North Shore of Kauai. The north shore of Kauai
is breathtaking, however it is on the wet side of the wettest island in the chain. It is incredibly green and beautiful on sunny days, however it can get tons of rain (especially in winter).
The property is up to date and very clean and comfortable. The pool area is great for couples and for families (separate pools!). We were on a family trip and could not believe how well designed and spacious our one bedroom was. We booked direct and had no problems, we had friends who booked with VRBO and had problems with check in.
Positives
Clean, well designed comfortable accommodations
Good value for Princeville
Great pool area
Negatives
Princevillle on cliff, not beach front
Wifi not the greatest

Room Tip: Several of the buildings have amazing views

Aloha from The Cliffs,
Mahalo for your kind words regarding our property. We appreciate you took the time to let us know how we're doing. You might be interested to know we have identified the issues with our 'spotty internet' and have signed a contract to beef up our routers ensuring a strong signal throughout the property. this should be in place in the next month or so.

This is our second trip to the Princeville area and our first stay at the Cliffs. The Cliffs provided well manicured grounds and an extremely clean, one bedroom, second floor unit. The building we were in did not have an ocean view, but the sunset from our balcony each evening was breathtaking. Covered balconies off the Master Bedroom and the Living Room allowed for additional living space and no need for air conditioning because of the wonderful trade winds. A short walk took us to a small but beautiful pool area and small fitness studio. Walking beyond the fitness/pool area took us to a vast lawn and sitting area with glorious ocean front view points. We watched turtles below the cliffs and whales off in the distance.

Wifi worked well in our unit. The unit was well stocked and had all cleaning supplies and items we needed for a full week. Linens were changed mid-week. There was some noise from other guests at the front parking lot as they got ready to come and go, but simply shutting the patio door off the Master-bedroom took care of that.

A short walk through residential areas takes you to a beautiful walk along the golf coarse and to the Princeville Shopping Center. Driving to the many north shore beaches is well worth the effort and easily done from the Cliffs.

Front desk staff at check-in - We got a very short and minimal introduction to the resort as it seemed we were taking up her valuable time. Other than this guest service issue, I recommend this resort for it's cleanliness, unit function, design, and maintenance, and will certainly consider staying again.
