We stayed at the Cliffs over Spring Break with our two young boys....we traded into this property through Interval International figuring we've never really stayed on the North Shore (we usually trade into the Marriott at Poipu).... It was a great choice! Our unit, #1310, was an end loft unit and faced towards the ocean, however, we only had glimpses of the water thru the forest…. While it would have been great to have an actual ocean view, our unit's view was just fine. The opposite view (from our spacious bedroom) was of the grounds and mountains, which were fine by us….
We arrived late on a rainy night. I have to admit, it was difficult to find the Cliffs under these conditions, but once i found it, it was easy to navigate during the day… And no, i don't do GPS!! Anyway, i had read some of the units at Cliffs are privately owned…….my initial impression of our unit was it was a privately owned condo----the decor, wood flooring, furnishings, appliances etc looked like a regular condo, not the standard issue furnishings you typically find in a timeshare… We really liked the rustic, yet open layout and brightness of the condo….. It took me about 1.5 days to realize #1310 was actually a timeshare! We were told all the timeshare units at Cliffs look like ours---good to know for future reference….. Overall, our unit was great---spacious, especially with the 2 queen beds in the loft (our kids LOVED their own space), spacious master bedroom with king bed, 2 full bathrooms, fully furnished kitchen , 2 lanais, 3 flat screen TV's, board games and ample windows and sliding doors… Everything appeared to be recently updated (i heard the property did some major upgrading/updating over the past 5 years)---the floor was in good shape, all the windows/doors worked, the appliances were good…. The only areas that looked somewhat dated to me were the bathrooms and kitchen cabinets, but in the grand scheme of things, they were fine and functional… Also, while there were ample windows to light the place up during the day, at night, we felt there wasn't enough lighting, so it was pretty dark in each of the rooms….
The common areas and grounds looked well kept…. The pool was newish with some water features for the kids….. One thing i appreciated was the grounds weren't overdone with too much landscaping as is the case with the Marriott, thus there weren't crews constantly blowing, trimming, cutting etc as is the case at the Marriott….. Also, what we liked about this property was it was a nice balance between a full-on resort and a residential complex-----It wasn't too resorty, yet it had a nice community feel to it, but it wasn't real laid-back and quiet (IE-boring) like a regular condo complex…. Since it was Spring Break, there were a fair number if kids around the pool, which was great for our boys….. An added bonus was there were a few natural attractions within 5 minutes by car----Queen's Bath and Hideaways Beach, both definitely worth checking out. Note: getting to each requires a short hike on rather aggressive trails. Our 2 boys did them just fine, but they're not for the timid.
Overall, i'm rating the Cliffs as a 4 1/2, but TA doesn't allow half points…. I would have given it a solid 5 if we had a full ocean view, the pool was a bit warmer and they didn't charge a $75 "resort fee"… Lack of air conditioning might factor in here too, but while we were there, it was cool and raining much of the time, so it didn't matter. But in hot weather, it might make a difference (tho each room had a ceiling fan, which worked very well at keeping things cool)…. The Cliffs are an excellent lodging choice, especially if you're traveling with family.
If you have family, if you can swing it, definitely try for the loft units. Also, the end units hav...
