“Dated but not bad at all”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

I was invited to stay at this time share property and was pleasantly surprised, especially after reading the terrible reviews of other guests. I stayed for a week at the end of October 2012. It was a 2 room deluxe suite with a wrap around porch. No a/c but we didn't need it - the trade winds and the ceiling fans worked fine.

The furniture looked a little "80's" but honestly folks, you're in Hawaii - how much time are you spending in the room? The carpets were not dirty or ripped, the linens were clean.

I was not happy about being woken up at 7am by the front desk asking if we would come to the orientation (WE WANT YOU TO BUY A TIME SHARE WITH US) since I didn't arrive at the unit until midnight after traveling from the east coast. I was here as a guest of people who traded their regular time share to stay here. They shouldn't be harrassing guests.

Yes, there was a little noise because we were near the service area, but nothing I would complain about. We really had a lovely time enjoying the pool area, meeting other guests at the BBQ area near the pool, etc.

As for the desk staff, they weren't going out of their way to help us get the Aloha card (discounts for many island attractions) because we weren't willing to sit through their sales pitch for buying a timeshare with them. Everyone else who worked there were friendly.

Everything we needed was provided: linens, beach towels, plates, cups, coffee maker, hair dryer, etc. Even detergent for the dishwasher and clothes washer. Not sure if all of this is provided to people who rent by the night though.

I loved everything about this place except the dated and seriously worn interior. It was large, well laid out, comfortable, clean and shabby with holes in the carpet worn laminate counters, stains on walls and linoleum bathroom floors that are peeling. The area is great, the staff is friendly and helpful but it is hard to get over the yucky interior.

Room Tip: I tried to get a renovated unit but was told "we cannot promise", if they cannot assure yo...

They put us in a unit that was right by the road the nosiest place you could get, however it was the dirtiest carpet with large holes and rips in the carpet just like ghetto carpeting they said this unit was not updated and they meant it. It hadn't been touched in 20 years at least. The carpet and the unit smelled strongly of mold, and when asked if we could move they all but laughed. Warning if you are booked to leave on Friday and want to check out a day or two before that they will charge you a 75 dollar early check out fee, unbelievable ! So leave and then call them on the day your should check out and tell them you are leaving and get the phone number for the expedited check out/ auto check out system and leave them a message you are gone. OH DID I FORGET ! NO AIR CONDITIONING (granted Kauai with your windows open is comfortable but only if you get a portable fan for your bedroom) Get this at check in they tell you if you want new towels just wash your own because you are only going to get new towels once a week on Mondays

Room Tip: ask for a updated room or nothing and try to stay away from the main road

The property location was excellent. Unfortunately they put the pool waterfall blocking some units view of the ocean (not smart). Our unit didn't have a view and the door between the two units had an inch crack.... So no sound barrier. I don't get timeshares; per night they can be very expensive.

We spent a week here this summer and were overall dissatisfied with our experience. The best thing about the unit (2 BD) is the size -- it was very spacious. However, the decor is ridiculously out of date, the furniture is uncomfortable, the carpet is FILTHY, and there was a huge stain on the mattress in the 2nd bedroom (which I didn't discover until we stripped the bed at the end of our stay).

I bought a new pair of slippers (light blue in color) and in less than 36 hours, the soles of the slippers were brown. My daughter's socks were also stained and the stains have yet to come out of her socks.

On one of our first nights there, the neighbors were being very loud (and it was during the "quiet hours"), so I called the front desk and was basically told, "they are on vacation too, so they should be able to enjoy their visit just as much as you". When I told them I was concerned about my baby daughter waking up, she seemed to show no concern.

The pools are nice and we enjoyed swimming in them. It was fun for my daughter to watch the chickens roaming the property in the morning at breakfast time. And because we were in a unit near the road, we did have A/C, which was a huge blessing -- it would have been a very difficult week had we not had A/C.

If we ever returned to Kauai, we would not return unless we were guaranteed a renovated unit.

We booked in January for a September wedding, However, I recieved a confirmation letter welcoming us to the Bali Hai a few weeks before the wedding. After a dozen phone calls we were finally welcomed a week before the wedding. After reading the reviews I requested a newly renovated unit on the top floor near the other guests in our party. When we arrived we were put in an old unit, on the ground floor, a building away from the party. We were told that since we weren't owners our request wasn't their priority. They weren't even close to being fully booked either. The shower door was broken upon arrival, the place was infested with tiny biting bugs, and 8 inch roaches. We complained and a guy showed up with a can of raid for me to spray the bugs. Wow, totally crapped on my expecations. We weren't even given a parking pass till our third day.

Room Tip: Get a room somewhere else unless you are an owner, then request a newly renovated room with no bugs.

It seems that the units vary greatly and those variances decide whether you enjoy your stay or not at this resort. We stayed in June 2012 and enjoyed ourselves immensely. We stayed in a 2 bed, 2 bath unit with friends in a 2nd floor unit and loved it. The unit had been updated and the vaulted ceiling allowed for ample airflow. I could see where being near a main road, etc. would be annoying, especially since there is no a.c. The main bedroom had a sliding door accessing the wrap around and huge lanai. The vegetation was premium Kauai.
Upon check in friendly, helpful, and efficient staff greeted us. No complaints. We were invited to an orientation and declined to go. We were offered pretty good incentives to attend but we knew we were not in the market for a timeshare so far from our Midwestern home. We had to decline several times but finally they got the not so subtle hint.
We entered our unit and were pleasantly surprised. After spending the previous week in a high-rise hotel unit in Waikiki, these accommodations were welcome to say the least. A plush basket of pool towels were placed inside our door. Ceiling fans in the living room and both bedrooms helped move the island air around our unit. Hint: The air moved much better through the master unit. Our friends stayed in the second, smaller bedroom and did not enjoy the airflow that we did. We utilized the beautiful pool often. The pool was usually a quite sanctuary although there were a few episodes of increased child activity. At times the hot tub was not hot enough for my wife’s liking. I’m in the tropics. I don’t need a hot tub. The view from poolside looked out over a beautiful fairway and an even more beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean. The course caretakers allowed visitors to walk the cart paths in the evenings. This made for many wonderful photo opportunities. There is public parking at the end of the road to walk a path down to a secluded beach but beware. The path is steep and lined with warning signs. In other words, it's one thing to make your way down to the beach. It's a totally different proposition climbing back up. Good exercise though.
The resort location is central to many wonderful destinations both up the north coast as well as the east coast. But the entire island is accessible and can be enjoyed within a short day trip. Ka 'Eo Kai was always a restful home base after many days of exploring, golfing, shopping, beach hopping, and generally enjoying our island of choice (at least for this trip). We took a boat ride up the Napali coast and it was not to be missed. Wonderful almost surreal beauty.
We would go back to Ka 'Eo Kai, no reservations, if we were guaranteed the same or like unit that we enjoyed this time.
Only complaint: While we have no qualms with recycling, sorting bottles below our window at 8 in the morning by resort staff was a lousy exchange for a quite island morning, enjoying the peace we had most mornings. But like someone used to tell me, "Small potatoes". This place was great.

Room Tip: I never saw the first floor rooms but the second floor rooms had very high, exspansive ceilings that...
