Recently returned from a 9 night stay at the St. Regis in Princeville. What a beautiful hotel. The rooms are larger than average and have beautiful furniture and the lobby is just stunning.
Room: We had the most amazing view from our roon ( 714). The rooms do not have lanais but the back of the rooom opens entirely to the beach and Mt. Makena. We slept every night to the sound of the waves. The huge window does have a screen you can close as well as glass doors and still get the view. There are shutters to close for darkness. Nice sized marble bath with step-in extra large tub ( more than enough for 2 people), King size bed ( with such comfortable pillows we ordered them for our home!) a full size sofa, chair, cocktail table, amoire and a double sided desk.
Service: Service at this hotel is OUTSTANDING. Every single employee greeted us with a smile and an Aloha! Check in took all of 3 minutes sitting at a lovely desk and not standing on a line). Even the bell hop was amazing. the valet service welcomes you back each day when you return from dinner or an outing..offers beach towels and bottled water for your journey out. I never once opened my own door..one valet even went so far as to pull my seatbelt out and had it to me for buckling! You really feel special here. Little things tht may bother some are: no mini bar in the rooms and no ice machines. All of these items can be had easily but you need to call for them.. they will bring them in minutes but of course then you need to tip. Room service will bring your food kept hot! ( as room service is usually luke warm) spread a table cloth out and add a flower whiel setting up your meal. Keep inmind all the charges added to room service add up. But at least they do make it nice for you. (We had 2 burgers and 1 martini and the bill came to nearly $95)
Pool: The pool is nice, fairly basic, but not as warm as they say its supposed to be at 80 degrees. It was in fact too cold for me most days so i jsut soaked in the hot tub instead..pool service is great. Waiters ( Noah was awesome) came around constantly, cold water dispensers every few feet..and towel serivce that is appreciated. they will find you seats based on your preference for sun or shade, and carry the towels and make up your chair for you. they dont even want you clearing your own towels.. when they see you leave they will run over and clean up.
Makena terrace: We had breakfast included in our package and glad we did. breakfast buffet was great and was the service. Sax alwasy had a smile on every morning and Justin was just the most charming waiter. The staff are happy to talk to you about the area, things to do etc. very very friendly. Buffet for 2 will run you about $60 if not included.
Weather: we went to the wettest island in Hawaii (Kauai)and stayed in the rainier part fo the Island (North side) during rainy season and had no rain at all!! We were truly amazed and grateful.. a few clouds and wind on some days but otherwise bright beautiful sunshine and around 80. coming from NY in late feb/early march this is very welcome! the hotel has the most amazing location inside a cliff and just cant be beat. 5 minutes from hanalei which is charming with good places to eat. There is also a shopping ceneter right next the the hotel road entrance for some provisions.
Beautiful sunsets, beautiful views of Mt. Makena, just beautiful!
I will add that my husband and I are seasoned travelers and have stayed in sme very high end resorts. The St. regis did not disappoint. Thsi was our second trip to Kauai and we love it. So much so that when we go to Tahiti next year we want to stay at the St. Regis in Bora Bora.
Get an ocean view room on a high floor ( like 7 or 8!)
