“Such a wonderful hotel, a vacation highlight.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2013

Although we just spent one night here as we were waiting to get into our time share it was a perfect 24 hours! We were so excited to finally arrive in Hawaii and to have a warm welcome, fabulous valet service, our bags brought to our room quickly, and efficient check in made all the travel stress melt away immediately. This was followed by an exceptional meal in the Kauai Grill and a moonlit walk on the beach. The hot tub and pool are open 24 hours!! This hotel is a must for a stay, a meal, or a visit for anybody coming to Kauai!

Room Tip: Room 617 was fantastic.

Recently returned from a 9 night stay at the St. Regis in Princeville. What a beautiful hotel. The rooms are larger than average and have beautiful furniture and the lobby is just stunning.
Room: We had the most amazing view from our roon ( 714). The rooms do not have lanais but the back of the rooom opens entirely to the beach and Mt. Makena. We slept every night to the sound of the waves. The huge window does have a screen you can close as well as glass doors and still get the view. There are shutters to close for darkness. Nice sized marble bath with step-in extra large tub ( more than enough for 2 people), King size bed ( with such comfortable pillows we ordered them for our home!) a full size sofa, chair, cocktail table, amoire and a double sided desk.
Service: Service at this hotel is OUTSTANDING. Every single employee greeted us with a smile and an Aloha! Check in took all of 3 minutes sitting at a lovely desk and not standing on a line). Even the bell hop was amazing. the valet service welcomes you back each day when you return from dinner or an outing..offers beach towels and bottled water for your journey out. I never once opened my own door..one valet even went so far as to pull my seatbelt out and had it to me for buckling! You really feel special here. Little things tht may bother some are: no mini bar in the rooms and no ice machines. All of these items can be had easily but you need to call for them.. they will bring them in minutes but of course then you need to tip. Room service will bring your food kept hot! ( as room service is usually luke warm) spread a table cloth out and add a flower whiel setting up your meal. Keep inmind all the charges added to room service add up. But at least they do make it nice for you. (We had 2 burgers and 1 martini and the bill came to nearly $95)
Pool: The pool is nice, fairly basic, but not as warm as they say its supposed to be at 80 degrees. It was in fact too cold for me most days so i jsut soaked in the hot tub instead..pool service is great. Waiters ( Noah was awesome) came around constantly, cold water dispensers every few feet..and towel serivce that is appreciated. they will find you seats based on your preference for sun or shade, and carry the towels and make up your chair for you. they dont even want you clearing your own towels.. when they see you leave they will run over and clean up.
Makena terrace: We had breakfast included in our package and glad we did. breakfast buffet was great and was the service. Sax alwasy had a smile on every morning and Justin was just the most charming waiter. The staff are happy to talk to you about the area, things to do etc. very very friendly. Buffet for 2 will run you about $60 if not included.
Weather: we went to the wettest island in Hawaii (Kauai)and stayed in the rainier part fo the Island (North side) during rainy season and had no rain at all!! We were truly amazed and grateful.. a few clouds and wind on some days but otherwise bright beautiful sunshine and around 80. coming from NY in late feb/early march this is very welcome! the hotel has the most amazing location inside a cliff and just cant be beat. 5 minutes from hanalei which is charming with good places to eat. There is also a shopping ceneter right next the the hotel road entrance for some provisions.
Beautiful sunsets, beautiful views of Mt. Makena, just beautiful!
I will add that my husband and I are seasoned travelers and have stayed in sme very high end resorts. The St. regis did not disappoint. Thsi was our second trip to Kauai and we love it. So much so that when we go to Tahiti next year we want to stay at the St. Regis in Bora Bora.

Room Tip: Get an ocean view room on a high floor ( like 7 or 8!)

This was a highlight of our almost three-week stay in Hawaii. This hotel was the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the beauty of Hawaii. Our room overlooked the sea and we could watch surfers in the distance. The sunsets were magnificent. We ate a delicious beakfast each morning on the terrace overlooking the ocean. Without a car, there isn't much to do, but we didn't want to do much here except soak in the beauty around the winding pool and at the beach. Needless to say the service was excellent.

Room Tip: Ask for one overlooking the sea.

We had a delicious (expensive) breakfast while watching the ocean from Makama Terrace. W.O.W. the waffles were perfectly delectable while earning Starwood points. You probably only come here once (twice). Why not?

Let me start by saying that if the St. Regis hotel did not have the fabulous location that it did, the hotel would not be a reason, in and of itself to stay there. But it does. And on that basis it does not disappoint. The beach overlooks the beautiful Napali Coast, the sunsets look fake they are so beautiful, you see rainbow after rainbow, the snorkeling is good right off the beach, it is private and quiet and it is a short walk to beautiful Hanalei Bay where you can walk for miles on the beach. I love this part of Kauai because it is less developed. While a lot of Hawaii can feel like Florida with all its condominium complexes and hotels, this part of Kauai is simpler and more in its natural state. The town of Hanalei is small and quaint and just right. So if you want to be in this part of the island, the St. Regis, may be your best choice. Plus, it doesn't hurt that it is a Starwood Resort either.

The hotel itself could use some updating. The rooms are big enough and they are clean and comfortable. We paid extra for a garden room because it is quite a distance from the other rooms in the main hotel to the beach and pool. I think my biggest gripe with the hotel actually is the dining room. The food is ridiculously expensive even by Hawaii standards. I believe most of the entrees are over $30 and the selection is not that great. Do not try to feed your family here. The breakfast buffet is good but at $35 a person for those over 12, it is not worth it. Staff is very friendly and helpful. I especially found the pool and beach staff to be warm, friendly and attentive. Kaipo, one of the attendents there, gave us recommendations for activities and dinner and also made our reservations for us while we simply sat at the beach. All in all, our stay at the St. Regis was pleasant. Definitely have a drink on the veranda at sunset, it is stupendous and definitely go paddle boarding at the hotel, the river inlet there is calm and beautiful.

My husband and I spent 2 nights at the St. Regis for our 1 year anniversary. The hotel is fabulous; make sure to catch sunset from their bar- the people watching is also great. We really enjoyed the pool area, and the beach is excellent (make sure to get up early to get the best lounge chairs). The hotel restaurants are delicious, and the service was fantastic. Additionally, we saw many families at the hotel, and it was clearly a very family friendly atmosphere.

This was our 3rd time staying at the St Regis in Princeville, and we were once again delighted with the resort, the area and the resort staff. Everything about this hotel is first class. The rooms are great, every single employee is attentive, friendly and outgoing, the pool and beach are phenonmenal and the restaurants are fantastic. We look forward to returning again!
