We are a family of four and rented the Whalers Cover 134 deluxe 2 bedroom condo. While expensive for Kauai rentals you "get what you pay for". We rented through the Parrish collection and they were helpful with tours, and anything we needed. We had one issue with the pool being nonfunctional for a day and they provided us with another pool to use during the downtime for 24 hours. Those renting directly through the condo did not get this extended to them. The waves literally crash on the shore in front and lull one to sleep which is the only noise you can hear.
The condos are on the water directly without anything in front (like a road) , but they are not on the beach and you really need to drive (very short and easy) to the different beaches. Several are on the beach but most have a road in front which runs along the beach. Kualai plantations is another good choice and further out Kuali shores (? spelling) but NOT prince Kuoi . Watch out for construction nearby as this is an issue with other properties- I would ask when booking
We cooked on the grills by the pool and enjoyed the hot tub and pool and walked to some of the smaller beaches but they are quite rocky ones adn the gorgeous ones like Polihale, Manuala are all a drive no matter where you are.
The property has plenty of towels/ sheets/ beach towels and some beach items although most were broken (umbrellas) and thus could not be used. We did not have any boogie boards etc in the property but did rent them locally as we did with chairs and umbrellas.
Having a washer-dryer is a must and it enabled us to bring fewer things for the trip
Local supermarkets are easy but look for the BIG SAVE as the prices are much better
Internet was included and wireless hookup
A nice touch was the reading books and all the Kauai info and movies (like South pacific)
In all a perfect family rental
