“Spectacular Property”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

We just returned from Whalers Cove staying in Unit 135 and it is one of the best vacations and units in the islands. The unit is decorated beautifully, very comfortable, and feels just like our home. The views right on the ocean including sunrise and sunset are spectacular. The housekeeping staff do a wonderful job as well. The resort is beautiful and we will be returning to Unit 135 and Whalers Cove next year.

We stayed Mid to late October in an Ocean View 2 Bed unit.We were travelling with 3 small boys, and wanted somewhere peaceful where we could base ourselves for trips to the beach etc, and also get some adult relaxation time on a Lanai with a view.
The apartment was beautifully decorated with gorgeous artwork, and very comfortable with large beds for the boys, and a well equipped kitchen.Beach coolers, chairs and snorkel gear was provided which were very welcome (and will save lots of packing space for next time!).
Cleaning service was thorough and friendly, and the on site manager (Maryann) was over the top helpful.
The grounds are well maintained, and include romantic sunset benches. The pool is smallish but heated and very relaxing, and the hot tub is at a perfect temperature for the climate.
The view from the balcony was beautiful, and we could see sea turtles (up to five at a time) every day.The snorkelling in the little cove by the side is good, just be careful getting out of the little neck in the cove as it is shallow with rocks and the surf is strongish.
There is no air conditioning, but you don`t really need it as you can leave the louvres open front and back and the breeze is more or less constant all night.
For beaches, baby beach is great for toddlers, Poipu beach is busy but really great for slightly older kids, and we really like Salt Pond Beach Park (a 15 minute drive) as it was very quiet, had a nice lagoon for the kids and some surf as well.
Highly recommended.

Just returned from several days at Whalers Cove--a superb choice for a very spacious, meticulously maintained, and beautifully built condominium (111). For those who treasure peace and the ocean and a great location a short distance from the best snorkeling and swimming you could want at the Poipu Park Beach. Concierge on site is gracious and helpful. Good restaurants just up the road. Quiet and respect for others reign here. Elegant construction with local hardwood doors and other features.

This is a beautiful and beautifully maintained unit and resort. The unit has been recently remodeled and is deluxe. The top floor units are two stories with the bedrooms on the top floor. The master bed and bath face the ocean, so you can shower while watching waves! (There are blinds if you think somebody is watching--nobody is though.) The unit is above the pool, though its a super quiet pool and its location is better than some of the more directly on the ocean units as you have some palm trees to provide some afternoon shade, without which it could get a little hot to eat lunch and dinner on the lanai.

Whaler's Cove is beautifully maintained (even the side facing the parking lot is an orchid garden!). You're not directly on a beach but you are a 4 minute walk from restaurants and shopping (and Lappert's ice cream). A bit pricey but worth it.

Room Tip: On maps building 2 looks worse, but its not. The pool is super quiet and you actually have a more i...

We spent four glorious nights at Whalers Cove. Given the price, we expected it to be nice, but it exceeded our expectations. The unit we stayed in, 135, had an incredible ocean view and was impeccably decorated: beautiful but not over the top and completely comfortable. Although situated in Poipu, Whalers Cove is away from all the resorts so is quiet. At the same time it is conveniently located minutes from a well appointed shopping center with snorkeling and walking out your door. We will be back!

We stayed at Whaler's Cove in Spring of 2012 and it was a beautiful, clean place to stay. We were in unit #230 which is above the swimming pool. I was concerned that it might be noisy being by the pool, but it wasn't at all. I would seriously come back here every year if I could.

Pluses:
- Clean, clean & clean! I'm a neat freak and hate dirty hotels. This place was spotless & maid service came in everyday to tidy up (they even loaded out dishwasher!) All the floors downstairs were tile & the kitchen was beautiful. The pool, pool area & grills were cleaned every morning.
- Quiet and peaceful. There are only 2 buildings in the resort. Building 1 is right on the water. Building 2 is behind the pool, but it's a very quiet, serene environment so no worries about pool noise.
- No crazy add on fees for every little thing. The resort cleaning fee was something like $35 for the entire week. No cost to park. We had 2 cars and there was no charge for the 2nd car.
- On the water, really! Rocky shoreline with benches to sit on. Loved sitting down by the ocean with a cup of coffee in the morning just watching the waves.
- Huge Lanais. I could have spent all day sitting on the lanai and watching & listening to the ocean. Gorgeous!
- Very friendly staff. Our friend was leaving a day later than us and they let her stay an extra day for a very reasonable fee since no one was booked for the next week.
- Great location. Easy to get to restaurants, stores, etc. Many are walking distance (1 - 3 miles away)

Minuses:
- Very minor. Faucet upstairs had a small leak.
- Need to book for a week (like almost every other place) during some portions of the year (I would love to come down for just a weekend)

Room Tip: Loved unit #230. Beautiful kitchen, clean, fabulous view. Wouldn't hesitate to stay in this un...

We had a wonderful time at Whalers Cove after spending almost two weeks on site!
It is absolutely lovely. We always book directly with the Marianne and like having that connection with property management. Marianne, Eileen, Steve and their housekeeping staff are unfailingly kind and helpful. We love the location, the pool and spa, and are huge fans of the amenities in this unit, particularly the washer and dryer (b/c we only travel with carry-on luggage to avoid airport hassles. :)
Sitting on the garden lanai with our morning coffee and/or guava mimosas provided the most relaxing start to every day.
We were pleased to find the Kukui'ula Shopping Area has grown significantly in the two years since we have been on Kauai - and we walked to this area almost every day for a meal and to browse the beautiful shops.
We love Whalers Cove and will most definitely return!

Room Tip: Unit #110 has a wonderful view and private garden just outside the sliders - this might have the onl...
