My husband and I stayed at Whalers Cove from Feb 24 to March 1, 08. We were married on Maui and decided to honeymoon in Kauai and at Whaler's Cove. We picked Whaler's Cove due to its seclusion and privacy. The complex is in great condition and offers fabulous views of the ocean. The swimming pool and hot tub are great and virtually no one uses them. So you can have the place all to yourself. They have handy BBQ's to use by the pool and wonderful gorgeous grounds to stroll around on. We stayed in unit 233, which is in building 2 on the top floor. Our condo was a 2 bedroom, 2 storey, with the master facing out to the ocean. Our balcony had a fabulous view of the ocean and pool area. We couldn't have asked for a better spot to spend our honeymoon. The unit had some really nice furnishings, but I hate to say that the condo is in dire need of a reno. It's decor is dated back to the early 90's. The carpet was dirty and a lot of things were very tired and worn. Plus, with the master facing the ocean, it is very very noisy from the waves crashing on the rocks below. There is no air conditioning, and you really don't need it, but if you do have a window open, it will be loud. There is construction going on across the way and you do hear it, but it didn't bother us at all since we spent most of our time touring the island.

Anyway, overall our stay was just wonderful and Kauai is a great place to visit. It is a beautiful place and we will definitely go back soon.

My husband and I stayed at Whaler's Cove for 5 nights last week. We absolutely loved it there. Our condo was beautiful and very, very clean. The view from the lanai is gorgeous. The staff was very helpful. We hated to leave to come home. It was truly paradise!

Plush, plush, plush suite! Sublime ocean views! Relaxing pool! Staff with beautiful aloha spirit. Wonderfully-tended orchid garden. Whalers Cove is amazing.

It's absolutely one of the nicest places I have ever stayed. Granite countertops in the kitchen, beautiful furnishings. Absolute amazing master suite. I wish I lived so nicely here at home.

When we first entered our unit, it was like, "Wow! Wow! Wow!" as we discovered every room and amenity. Then we settled in and all was perfect.

We like the location in Poipu, on the sunny side. It's so easy to drive everywhere in Kauai. Nearby there are plenty of grocery stores, wine shop, video store, surf shops, ice cream, fresh fish, farmers markets, restaurants--everything you need!

Kauai is amazing! Nobody hassling you about timeshares or selling cheap trinkets. The natural beauty of Kauai that we read about is why we were attracted to it, and it's why we will go back. When we return, we will absolutely return to Whaler's Cove.

  • Liked — um, everything!
  • Disliked — That we can't live there.

This place is right near all the great restaurants on the south side, the seclusion and privacy are outstanding. The rooms, condos, are bright, spacious and very clean. The hot tub was nice to unwind in after dinner, once we had to share it with some other friendly guests.

Can't wait to have an excuse to go back...

Just returned from Kauai holiday vacation and stayed at Whalers Cove condo for 12 days. (16th thru the 27th) We booked through Grantham Resorts and stayed in unit #132. Grantham only has two units at Whaler's. We picked #132 for the sofa bed and extra bedroom tv. My mother-in law was to have the sofa bed. This was an expensive trip with rates up during the holiday ($475 per nite average with taxes). Its much less expensive at any other time of the year. We loved Whalers and would stay there again but our unit was a little tired for that kind of rate. We would book another unit and ask specifically about the condition of the unit and all the amenities the web pictures might show. The web description indicated the unit had a sofa bed (not) A tv in the 2nd bedroom (not) The blender leaked, they brought us a new one (nice) Patio furniture was tired (base rusted) and the master jacuzzi tub was plastic and stained badly (no baths this trip) Masterbed was very comfortable and also the other twin beds were good. Plenty of towels, sand chairs, beach umbrella and coolers (a nice touch) The complex has a beautiful infinity pool with hot tub and is nicely landscaped. A private stairs leads to Kola landing for good snorkeling and diving (very convenient) This complex is quiet and seemingly never full (only 30 units), many sunny days in pool with just us (a big plus) Gas barbeques for grilling are close and never busy. We loved the location within walking distance to Baby beach to the west and short drive to Poipu beach to the east. Views from the balcony are fantastic with the ocean crashing just a 100 feet away. Try the pancakes (huge) at Joe's on the green, dinner at the Beach House is excellent and worth it. Brennecke's Beach Broiler is nice but portions are small for the price. If its a little cloudy in Poipu just drive to the westside in minutes where its even sunnier, try Salt Pond Beach. We drove to the northend for sightseeing and more beautiful beaches but I think you'll have more dining choices in the south and its easier and quicker to get around. All in all, Whaler's and Kauai are beautiful and well worth the long flight. We will be back!

  • Disliked — Not directly on a beach.
