My new husband and i were fortunate to receive a vacation package to The Lawaii Beach Resort as a wedding gift. We stayed at the resort for an entire week at the Coral building.

I would have to say that the vacation was the best of my life and I owe a lot of it to the Lawaii Beach Resort. The room we stayed in was neat, clean and very spacious. We even had an extra bedroom with twin beds that were never used, making us wish (kind of) that we had some of our children along to fill the space. Granted it was a fleeting thought, but nevertheless... Many reviews I had read about the resort before I left made me question the cleanliness and service provided at the resort but I would have to say that I never experienced any of it. All the service providers we came across were always cheerful and went out of their way to be helpful.

The grounds were very well maintained as I noticed were many of the resorts in the area. My husband loved the tiki torches scattered around the property and decided he was going to attempt to place permanent ones on our patio at home. Our room was on the main floor of the building so we did not get a complete unobscured view of the ocean, but it's location was nice in the fact that the pool was only steps away. I enjoyed my morning swims after snuggling on a lounge chair to read almost as much as the nightly soak in the jacuzzi. Some nights there would be a gentle rain as we were in the hot tub and pool yet the stars were shining bright. I loved to float on my back as the warm rain hit my face and gaze at the constellations.

I had also read in earlier reviews how some people were irritated by all the chickens running around the resort and the island. I have to say that I thought they were charming and they were a wonderful piece of local color that I thoroughly enjoyed. I was chasing handsome roosters around the whole trip with my camara in hand.

Every morning I would have a pair of little gray doves that would come to sit by me as I had my coffee on the lanai. Sometimes the male would literally fly to me when I came out of the door. They became my little companions as I sipped my heavenly Hawaiian coffee and gazed at the ocean.

The only downside of the whole experience was that a large group of young males moved in to the rooms next door about midweek of our stay. They were obviously smokers as they would stroll around the grounds with cigarettes in hand. Soon they started smoking in their room, even though it was not allowed, and it would come through the vent into our apartment. To top it off a couple days after they checked in wives or girlfriends and children showed up. There must have been 12 to 14 people in the room. Needless to say their noise and smoke became very overbearing and we needed to tell the front desk. They did settle down some what, but they still kept on lighting up. We had to keep the bathroom fan on 24/7 just to control the odor. Very disappointing....

In conclusion, If we ever get the chance to come back to Kauaii we will definitely attempt to stay at the Lawaii Beach Resort. I wept the whole day we had to leave....

Lawai beach resort

Our stay at the Lawai Beach Resort was perfect. We were assigned a two bedroom unit on the first floor. Being on the first floor made us nervous. When we got to our room we found that we were just steps away from the main pool, hot tub, and a couple of grills. Our worries were relieved when we read that the resort observes “quiet time’ between 10PM and 9AM. It was perfectly quiet by 10PM, if not earlier. Security and maintenance staff routinely walk the grounds of the resort, including to inform guests when it was time to close the facilities. We loved that. We rested peacefully until around 6:15 a.m. when roosters awake all the guests throughout the resort. Roosters populate the island and are found in the middle of busy roads, in shopping plazas, in the canyon, everywhere.

Our kitchen had every amenity we needed. The refrigerator had an icemaker, there was a dishwasher, TV in each bedroom and living room, and a patio area outside the living room and the main bedroom. The unit was very clean and we never heard any noise from guests on the floor above. Everything worked well.

There are ceiling fans in the bedroom and the living rooms which we found to be sufficient. Actually, it got chilly overnight several times.

The main bathroom was huge and there was plenty of closet space. We actually didn’t have anyone with us so I didn’t even notice the guest bedroom other than to say that there were two twin beds in that room. Can’t comment on the closet.

There was also a roof-top café which offered sandwiches etc. The café was attached to the game room/gym. Not much game room or gym to speak of. There was also a tennis court and mini golf course right outside the café.

There was a quiet pool which we didn’t use. We used the main pool which featured a stone waterfall. Close by was a hot tub (constructed of stone) which also had a waterfall. We enjoyed both. After sundown, the maintenance staff lit tiki torches around the grounds.

We used the grills twice and they were very powerful and heated quickly. They are cleaned by the maintenance staff every morning.

We had a mediocre view of the ocean because we were on the 1st floor. However, getting to the beach was very quick. The beach across the street offers the VERY best snorkeling (which we did) and plenty of surfing opportunities (which we only watched). Actually, the beach across the street offered better snorkeling tan other beaches listed in as hot snorkeling spots (others also agreed with us). Rent snorkeling gear at the beach (Boss Frogs) for the week.

The Beach House restaurant sits at the top of the cliff by the beach. We had drinks there (Peach Mojito was great), fried calamari and an asparagus appetizer. A very popular site with great views.

The only unfortunate aspect of our stay was when the resort charged me $.20 a minute to use their internet (plus additional cost to print my boarding pass).

My parents booked our trip through RCI (a time share company) We were told that the Lawai Beach Resort was a 5 star hotel. I had my reservations after looking at the website. I enjoyed my stay there on the whole but here's some things you should know before you book a room there. I have to say that I fell in love with the view of the ocean and thoroughly enjoyed getting up daily to have my breakfast out on the patio. There were plenty of seats, a lounge chair, a table and some foot stools out on the patio. The only problem was that this hotel was across the street from the beach and not directly on the beach...I didn't mind that though. I thought the room was increadibly well equipped (everything you need in the kitchen, in suite laundry, TVs in both bedrooms and living room, even a stereo). I did not really appreciate the fact that the second room in our condo had two twin beds and that my husband and I had to sleep separately. I didn't mind too much that there wasn't air condiditoning because I actually dislike air conditioning and the rooms are well equipped to take advantage of the wind in that area. The only problem room was our bedroom...unless you keep the door open, it gets really hot. There was also a lot of noise from the Roosters and the construction that woke us up. I liked the fact that they had three pools you could use and thought that the shower facilities were good. The cafe they had made good sandwiches (freshly made). The whole island was quite expensive for food and entertainment (that's partly because they have to import a lot food and other goods from the mainland so it costs more) but I really enjoyed the tours I went on. The only one I wouldn't recommend was ATVing. We went with Kauai ATV on a trip to a so called waterfall which turned out to be a man-made (you could see the pipe the water came out of) waterfall that was very small. The tour guide was very afraid that one of us would break an ATV and refused to allow us to do anything fun with the ATVs so we had to basically ride behind him is a straight line. I did learn how to operate an ATV on my own though, so that was great. I really loved the Kayaking trip up the Wailua river..that waterfall was worth seeing. I also really enjoyed the Captain Andy's catamaran trip up the Napali coast. My husband and I found what has to be the best snorkeling on the island. It was at Tunnels Beach near Hanalei Bay. My husband actually touched a sea turtle there. Be carefull of some of the rip tides on the island, snorkeling can be a bit dangerous at Lawai Beach. We really enjoyed the Kilauea light house, the Waikapalae Wet Cave and the Maniniholo Dry Cave. If you like Puff the Magic Dragon, there's a neat story about Hanalei Bay, the caves near by as well as the mountain formation that looks like a dragon there.

This was the worst stay I have ever had anywhere! It was so noisy, sleeping was sporatic at best. The bedrooms butt up to the parking lot and whenever a car door shut or the car was locked through the remote ( cars beep here when remote locked), it woke us up. People were leaving very early in the morning to go to the airport. Their car doors slammed, suitcases rolling on walkway and them talking all contributed to waking us up over and over. One morning, five different carloads left within an hour of one another. Heard everyone of them. The walkways are right next to the bedrooms, people walk right by your bedroom windows day and night. Any conversation is heard as if they are in your room. People above us watched tv in their bedroom until after midnight and laughed loudly at show. We heard evey bit of it. The condo doors are heavy and slam shut loudly when just let go. The walls between condos are thick and soundproof so you do not hear your neighbors from the sides, thankfully. Granted, I am a bit sensitive to noise when I sleep but my travel companions are not and they had the same complaints I did.
The beach across the road from the condos is wonderful for snorkeling. Lots of locals use it to surf as well. But you do have the road between you and the condo. Beach front is not exactly beach front. Had we been on the ocean front truly, I am sure the noise would not have been such a big deal. I have been to Hawaii 4 times now and when ever we stayed right next to the ocean, I never heard anything but the waves. It is worth the extra money to get true ocean front if noise bothers you.
Also there was someone remodeling their condo during our second week. One morning they started hammering at 6 am and another at 7 am. No one did a thing about it.
They did warn us about the construction going on behind the condos but can one truly understand that sort of noise until you experience it? 6:30 am!!! Heavy equipment beeping and rattling and all the yucky noise they make during my dreams.
The staff is wonderful! They were kind and accommodating but they are not enough to balance out the noise. With a different layout, this could have been an amazing place. I will not come back to this particuliar place again. Love the town and the locals but not the noise!
