Needed to be treated like a queen during a whirlwind business trip to my favorite Hawaiian island. Had access to the club lounge which was complimentary and generous. Incredible views and even saw whales. Staff was lovely and friendly. Must mention the total toilet which cleans and dries you. At first I thought it was odd and then it became strangely addictive. Previous stays on Kauai have been way more rustic but this was incredibly luxurious!

We recently returned from our trip to Kauai and our third stay at the Grand Hyatt. The property has been designed perfectly for its location. You are truly in paradise as you walk through their lush, beautifully landscaped and maintained gardens amongst the fish ponds, the swimming pools and salt water ponds. The view from the Sea View Terrace is extraordinary...anyone who experiences it will never forget the beauty of the ocean along with the lush gardens. Every day we were there we intrigued by the whales breeching out of the ocean, the sea turtles sunning on the rocks or the sea otter resting in a protected area on Shipwreck Beach. The Hyatt has wonderful Hawaiian entertainment in the Sea View Terrace every evening......beautiful music and talented hula dancers. Our spacious room was absolutely perfect with every amenity we could ask for! The view from our lanai of the ocean and the gardens was so enjoyable from morning until night. The employees at this resort are extraordinary...they are welcoming, helpful, friendly and courteous. And, many of their employees have worked there quite some time as we remember them from our previous visits over the years and some of them remembered us!The service and amenities in the Grand Club is definitely worth the expense. Be sure to visit the Tennis Shop...a hidden treasure for great sportswear. This is definitely our favorite Hyatt!

Room Tip: A view or partial view of the ocean is definitely worth paying the price for----! And, a suite is e...

We stayed at The Grand Hyatt Kauai from 6 - 15 FEB on our honeymoon and it was just perfect. Had a fantastic room above the Ilima Terrace looking out over the gardens and ocean and the view from our Lanai could have been cut out of a holiday brochure it was that perfect. Not a cheap hotel to stay at but then the standards off amenities, food, drink and staff reflect that and there is a wonderful clientele at the hotel.
If you are looking for a dream holiday in a tropical paradise then this is the place for you. We have both fallen in love with Kauai and the Grnd Htayy and will certainly be returning for an anniversary at least once and if we win the Lottery - every year !
We stayed when the island got hit by a nasty storm and despite the hotel losing power to most rooms the management and staff did a miraculous job in keeping the hotel running - can't applaud them enough.

Room Tip: Ocean view every time

First let me say this resort is a family oasis. Great pools, large rooms and bathroom with double sinks, pool toys, water slide, refrigerator in room, Kauai....

Those without a family might prefer the Koa Kea or St Regis in Princeville.

My room was a pool view room but had a view of the ocean from the Lanai. There is a salt water lagoon as well as a huge pool or set of pools. A pretty great water slide. A tip for people with little kids, the sign says you have to be 40" to do the water slide but they don't enforce it as I think it is there only for legal liability rules. So if you have a youngster, don't let the sign put you off.

We had a power outage so can't tell you much about the restaurants other than the poolside one - food good but it takes a long time for them to bring it to you. And the terrace café, which has a good but expensive breakfast buffet.

Another tip for a romantic thing to do is use the hammocks around the resort and before sunrive go left on the beach to the lithified cliffs, there is a path up to the top and there is a great view of the sunrise. The cliffs there can be jumped from.

Room Tip: Many people complain about the long hike to some rooms since the resort is spread out, ask for a han...

Overall, a fabulous resort with lovely grounds and cheerful, responsive service. Unlike previous reviewers, I felt that the power outage was handled extremely well. A huge windstorm damaged the transformer(?), which is obviously not within their control. They provided free food and wine, flashlights and glow sticks, and provided excellent, regular communication about the situation. All of the staff were well-informed about current status and most helpful. I cannot think what else they could have done to make it smoother. Did not detract from our vacation at all.

The reason I gave 4 stars was because of the quality of our suite. It was difficult to sleep well due to all of the noises in our room. The toilet ran, the washlet (bidet) gurgled, the A/C snapped loudly each time it clicked on, and the sink drain moaned like something out of Harry Potter. Additionally, the lock on our sliding door was broken. Maintenance was called to work on both door and toilet, with limited success. Also, the room was not cleaned twice during our one week stay. All of these problems were reported to the mgmt, with a very gracious reply, so I am hopeful they are being attended to. None was a disaster, but enough to drop a star off of the review.

Aside from the room issues, everything else was top-notch. Food was good, lava flows had plenty of rum in them, pools were clean and fun, staff was delightful, cliff hiking nearby is really cool. Excellent baby beach for young children. We would definitely go back.

Aloha AngekWA,

Mahalo! Mahalo for your understanding and takeaway from the extremely challenging situation that we were all put in. We are ever so gracious to you for taking time out of your day to share your thoughts. Thank you for pointing out our areas of improvement. I will follow up with the management to ensure that they have checked these off of their lists. We are looking forward to welcoming you and your family back again someday!

A hui hou,

Kaela

Beautiful hotel with gorgeous pool/salt water lagoon. The beach in front of the hotel is also really nice. You can't swim there as the water is rough but it's a great place to sunbathe/read a book.

I went to the gym... Once! But the one time was a good experience. They have many machines but it doesn't feel too crowded. They also offer daily classes. I went to one of their morning walks which was a good workout as pretty fast paced.

Staff was nice/friendly.

I would definitely love to come back.

Unfortunately, when we arrived on Saturday, the power had gone out! That being said, the staff was ready. The handed out flashlights and glo-sticks. They offered a free buffet dinner with wine/beer. They did everything they could to make this situation okay. The next morning, even after the power came on, they offered us a free breakfast buffet. I understand that some people got upset, but honestly we kind of enjoyed the quiet of the night and sleeping with the doors open and listening to the waves.
The property is amazing. The landscaping is kept up well. The pool is beautiful. The staff remembered you day after day. The other guests were friendly as well.
The only gripe I had were the pillows. But, this is a common issue in hotels. Otherwise, we will definitely be back.

Room Tip: We chose a ocean view deluxe on a high floor. It was a great view and quiet.
