My wife and I stayed at the resort for one week. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The room was nice but nothing special, but when the grounds have so much to offer, who wants to stay in the room? The restaurants are wonderful and the grounds make you feel like you're in the botomical gardens. The slide is fast and fun even for adults and the pools are plentiful with waterfalls everywhere. They even have a salt water pool with sand that looks like a real beach. This place is paradise!

“great pool and lagoon, poor service recovery, nickel and dimeing galore”

Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa

If you plan on spending a great deal of time at the hotel, this place is great. The pool and lagoon can't be beat. There is no need to travel to another beach either. There is also a nice hiking trail that joins the grounds. The hotel also has a beautiful area overlooking the ocean where they have live entertainment.

On the downside, I was disappointed in the outrageous food and drink prices and daily $15 fee which included parking and other services that were needless. Also, the staff required tipping for everything. It would be more appropriate and way less tacky, for such and expensive hotel to not include tipping in the majority of services provided.

If you happen to experience any problems don’t expect the staff or the managers to offer any solutions even if your problem was a result of something they did. All the solutions and follow-up was provided by me. I was offered no apologies for the inconvenience that cost us a day. Eventually, the hotel did the right thing but it was too little too late. As a result of this experience, I will not be returning to the Hyatt

All in all, the grounds make this hotel stand apart from others. I am glad we stayed there even though we will not be returning.

“Great hotel, lackluster service....”

I give the hotel and grounds a 10+. I give the general hotel staff a 6 and the concierge a 1. We had three rooms in April 2008. Weather was great, hotel wasn’t very busy, grounds were perfect, pool was spectacular. Great hotel for an adult trip or with kids (separate pool areas). The Poipu area is a great place, lots of small shops and good restaurants nearby (including one of the original Roy’s). I definitely recommend ordering pizza one night from Brick Oven Pizza (about a 15 minute drive to pick up, they don’t deliver).

This hotel isn’t cheap and you would expect to get the best room, food and service. With the exception of the front desk and pool side snack shop, the service is where the hotel CONSISTENTLY was poor. Here’s a list of things that stand out. One day our room wasn’t made up, called housekeeping later in the day and they said they’d send someone right over – they never came. Most of the days we stayed, we didn’t see any pool side service. My biggest gripe was the concierge – fist night we arrive we called the concierge and asked about restaurants and settled on The Beach House. We said we could go any of the next 7 nights, but needed an earlier reservation of 6:30 or earlier because of the kids. We received a call back a few minutes later from the concierge letting us know the best they could do was 7:45 the next day. It sounded fishy, so we immediately called the restaurant directly and was able to get 6:15 the next day. They said they were wide open. Another experience was asking if they had a menu for Tropical Burgers (a restaurant in the local shopping center). They responded with an attitude “you don’t want to go there”, and the conversation actually got confrontational. There were several other instances of similar nature where we felt talked down to by young punks. The service there really left a bad taste in my mouth.

“Really nice hotel”

Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa

This is a really wonderful hotel. Went with my wife and 8 year old daughter. The rooms are very nice, we had ocean front. Maybe a bit out of date, baths are huge and very nice. Never felt crowded with the 3 of us. The food is very good but fairly pricey. And I found few choices for our daughter....but we loved the food. Pools are fabulous and the lagoon was our choice for swimming. The staff was exceptional with lots of morning activities for the kids. Made lei's and had a parrot talk. The luau was nice, but we don;t drink so thought it was expensive but very good entertainment and our daughter still talks about it. Actually quite educational with the descriptions of the people who came to Hawaii.
Would go again in a minute. Not an international 5 star place, but really good and high level of service and attention. A beautiful place.

“Beautiful Hotel Grounds”

My husband and I stayed at the Grand Hyatt from 4/20-4/26 after staying up in Princeville the week before. The hotel itself is one of the nicest ones to stay in across the island. If you are comparing it to the Princeville Resort, it is much nicer. We visited the Princeville hotel from the home we rented during our initial stay, and the Princeville hotel is quite nice, but much older and not as pretty. The hotel grounds and pool at the Hyatt are nothing like I have ever seen, they were so beautiful with lots of room to explore. The rooms were nice, not extravagent, but very quiet, and good views from all areas. The hotel allowed us to check in slightly early, and upgraded us for free into a mountain view room.
The service at the hotel is unmatched with everyone always going out of their way to help you and call you by name.
The restaurants were all good, and did not require reservations all the time. Most ranged at around $30-40 pp for dinner. Stevensons Library has great sushi and live entertainment.
We golfed and visited the spa, and both were very nice, but somewhat pricey.
Would advise you to go into town to get water, beer and snacks for the pool area, since drinks are $11 a piece. The pool restaurant was reasonable with lunch meals around $7-$15. Grounds of hotel are awesome, explore the trail both ways, since there are great views of sunrises and turtles are everywhere. Beach is nice, but water is rough, so very little swimming. Lagoon by the pool is salt water, but can hardly tell, cool to swim in this area as well.

Would recommend seeing the following attractions both North and South: Waimea Canyon, Wailea Falls, Lydgate State Park, Lava Pools, Kalalua Trail, Napali Coast by helicopter.

Other restaurants/fun stops recommeded: Shrimp Station, Lapperts Ice Cream, Banana Joes, the Beach House.
