“Continues to amaze us”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

We have stayed here for the past four years over the Christmas holidays. Every year gets even better. The service at this resort is incredible. Every single person that works there stops what they are doing as you walk by to genuinely wish you Aloha or ask how you are doing. The resort is immaculately cared for and spacious. All of the restaurants have fantastic food, service, and ambience. The rooms are quite large, modern, and incredibly clean. The only downside is breaking away from this beautiful resort to get out and see what Kauai has to offer.

Room Tip: Ocean Club rooms are fantastic.

My husband and I stayed at the Grand Hyatt in Kauai for our "Babymoon" and we went the 22nd-29th of January 2013! The resort was amazing and the people who worked there, from the registration/front desk staff members to the conceirge's (Jamie) were so warm and welcoming ;). My husband signed up for golf lessons and surf lessons, and he was the only one in the classes, so he basically got 1:1 instructions from a golf and surf pro at a great deal. In addition, we worked with Pacific Dream Photography and scheduled a photo shoot while we stayed at the Grand Hyatt. There is no charge for the shoot; you only pay for the pictures that you want to keep! The pictures were absolutely breathtaking and turned out better than I could have ever expected. I highly recommend that everyone book a shoot, as it's always nice to have some professional pictures from your vacation. Out photographer was Brian and Matt (from Pacific Dreams) helped us as I reviewed all the pictures. All in all, it was a great vacation and I will definitely be going back to the Grand Hyatt next year and booking another photo shoot!

My focus of this review will be to give you tips, tricks we learned while here. I won't waste too much of your time by going on and on about how nice this place was because 99% of the reviewers before me did that and you get the point. THIS PLACE IS GRAND!

The rooms are nice, but the sheer grandness (52 acres), grounds, pools, atmosphere and romance make this place amazing. We stayed in the far east end; close to pools, the parking lot and restaurants. Great location in the hotel and not noisy at all, as I had read in other reviews.

NOW for TIPS and our FAVORITES:
- We found a nice cement trail that runs west out the end of the hotel. The trail takes you about 3/4 of a mile to the area of Brennecke's Beach/ Poipu Park. From here you can access the ocean. Sit on the large black rocks where the road curves around Brennecke's Beach. This is the ideal spot for watching the most amazing sunset, whales, turtles surf the waves, outriggers, boogie boarders, on and on!
- Also at the end of the trail you can turn right and it takes you to Kalapaki Joe's. They had a huge food and beer selection. Taste is good and the price is reasonable.
- At least one morning take the short walk east on the beach in front of the hotel. Take the obvious trail through the bushes to the top where people jump from the cliff. Don't jump, just sit and watch the sunrise. Amazing....again!
- There is a cold water dispenser near each ice dispenser. We used this a lot.
- There does not seem to be much problem (discreetly) bringing outside alcohol to the pool/ lagoon area. We saw many people buy Bud Light cans and replenish their hand from their own stash. One Bud Light at the bar is $7, a half case at the Whaler's Store was about $15.
- You can rent bikes at the Logo Shop near the golf course.
- Have dinner at Tidepools!
- You're not too old to do the water slide.
- We never had a problem with finding comfortable spots by the pool or lagoon.
- Plan time to stay on the property. There is plenty to do and see here. After getting here we didn't leave half as much as we anticipated. When we did leave we found we enjoyed the hotel more than the sightseeing and were ready to come back.
- The food all along Poipu Road was pricey. There is a Big Save grocery store about 5-10 minutes away in Koala Town. However, keep in mind the hotel fridge is small and no freezer.

Enjoy your stay as much as we enjoyed ours. And....say hi to Lilikoi for us. She's the shy white Cockatoo by the lazy river.

Room Tip: We liked the east end. It was close to the pool and everything else. Not noisy.

My husband, and I came here for a week for our honeymoon and it was an AMAZING experience! The selection of restaurants on the property were vast, diverse and VERY accommodating to our dietary needs (Gluten Free). The service by poolside is exceptional as well. We were staying in a deluxe oceanfront room on the 6th floor (the highest floor), and we could see humpback whales, and their calves breaching out of the water from our balcony, we saw whales every single day during our stay !!!!!!!!! SO AWESOME! The concierge at the Hyatt is beyond helpful, and we planned most of our trips right when we arrived which I will write reviews for as well. I HIGHLY recommend if anything to do on Kauai is to go on the Jurassic Falls Helicopter Excursion- you will never forget the experience! During our stay we also had full access to the Spa which is beyond tranquil, and revitalizing- the massage therapists on hand are spectacular. My husband, and I will definitely be returning to this resort it is the BEST compared to the others!!! Don't waste your time book with the Hyatt!

Aloha and Mahalo for your review!

We are thrilled to hear you had a wonderful stay with us, and congratulations again on your recent nuptials! We are also happy to know that our Gluten Free menus were most accommodating for you, and that you enjoyed the many restaurant outlets throughout the resort. It would be a pleasure to welcome you back in the near future, possibly for an anniversary stay!

Upon arrival we pulled under the huge canopy entrance, greeted by friendly staff and shown the way to the reception desk. One step inside the front door presents a beautiful picture of ocean surf and palm trees framed by classically appropriate architecture. You can hear tropical birds squawking from somewhere close, inside the hotel.

The bellman Benny was helpful and explained as much as he could about the property during our seemingly endless trek to our room. He called the restaurant Tidepools for us to make a reservation.

The room is nice, well furnished with a modern expansive bathroom, separate enclosed lavatory. The room is not large, but not cramped either. The bed is comfortable as is the lounge chair. Fridge and coffee maker as well as two bottles of water for convenience.

So, up until this point we have a winner. I'm going to write a separate review of the restaurants because I think it might save somebody some grief, but let me summarize; stay here and eat elsewhere. We've been here two days and have yet to have what I would consider and good food or cocktails. Disappointing, but a little understandable considering the size of this place. It's really more of a really nice convention hotel than a 5 star resort. Not sure it's really up to the Fine Hotels and Resorts standards it purports to be. If we return to Kauai we'll look elsewhere.

When we arrived at the Grand Hyatt we were greeted with a very warm welcome. The front desk was amazing. The front desk was very friendly and checked us in quickly and made us feel welcomed.
Our room was part of the Grand Club room access program and it made the stay that much more enjoyable.
The friendliness and high quality level of service and attention to detail from staff was perfect. The hotel grounds meet my expectations for a Hawaiian resort.
The pools were warm and inviting. The size made it a WOW.
I enjoyed watching surfers and locals having fun on the beasch.
The rooms were not extravagant but they did have a nice, casual flair that was welcoming and comfrotable.
The Grand Hyatt is as impressive as a resort can be in my opinion. I loved it here.
