“Great Resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

We flew in from Oahu and arrived at the hotel around midnight. When we walked into the huge, empty lobby it was definitely a wow moment. The resort is beautiful inside and out. We spent 4 days at Disney Aulani prior to our stay at the Grand Hyatt Kauai and the Grand Hyatt wins hands down. Service was excellent - concierge, front desk, housekeeping and restaurant staff were all great. The pool area is lovely and was never crowded during our stay. My only complaint is that the non-slip surface on the stairs that lead to the water slide really hurt my feet. I thought maybe it was just me, but my son said he had the same problem. The breakfast buffet was very nice and the servers were very friendly and helpful. One morning we had an early morning catamaran cruise scheduled, so we were rushed at breakfast. I mentioned to our server that we didn't have much time. She came back with some take out boxes so we could bring some items from the buffet along with us on our cruise. I appreciated her thoughtfulness. The valets keep towels at their station to pass out to guests going on cruises, so if you forget you don't have to go back to your room for a towel. The Seaview Terrace is a lovely place to have a drink or snack in the evening while enjoying the torch lighting ceremony and evening entertainment. The staff also has a parrot talk each morning at Seaview Terrace which was fun. We found it very relaxing to have our cocktails on the wooden bench swings located along the beach path while taking in the beautiful evening sky. We had a poolside room, which actually had a partial view of the ocean. It was a very convenient location and there was no noise from the pool. The room includes a nice patio with a table and two chairs. The room was large and well appointed. The bathroom was huge. Housekeeping staff always kept us well stocked with towels and tolietries. There is a $25 resort fee, but that includes parking, free Wifi, newspaper, etc. We did a zipline tour with Outfitters Kauai which is located just a few blocks from the Grand Hyatt. Also took the Kipu Ranch ATV tour, which was also an easy drive from the resort. Kauai is a beautiful, laid-back location and I'm so glad we chose to visit the island and stay at the Grand Hyatt. It was the best part of our Hawaii vacation.

Aloha and Mahalo for your review!

We are thrilled to hear you and your Ohana (family) had an amazing Hawaiian vacation! It's great that you enjoyed the amenities of resort, and explored much of what Kauai has to offer- catamaran tours, zip line, and ATV adventures! Thank you for your kind comments about our staff and for your feedback about the stair surface near the waterslide. We will be sure to share this with our management team. We hope to see you on your next visit to Hawaii!

Mahalo and A Hui Hou (until we meet again),
Kaila

“Impressive Grand Hyatt on Kauai”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

We just returned after a one week stay at this property and I was very impressed overall. This property is very good for families, with many activities available, a very large pool with waterslide and the Camp Hyatt program for the younger kids.

The pool area is the centerpiece of the resort, with several pools on different levels. The waterslide seemed to be a very popular aspect of the pools as well as the lazy river. There is also an adult only pool which was better for the adults to use. The service for food and drinks around the pool was attentive, timely and for Hawaii the prices were somewhat reasonable. The food quality was good, so we frequently had lunch at the pool.

This property has a nice tennis program, with a tennis pro, 3 well maintained courts and tennis shop. They have a clinic every morning at 9am for advanced players and it was very nicely done. This was a great opportunity to meet other players for setting up games later in the day. The head pro is Chris, who is quite a nice guy and Aaron provides coverage for 2 days each week. We really enjoyed using the courts and attending the clinics here.

We upgraded to a room overlooking the pools and it was just large enough for our needs. We used the balcony more than once and while I was concerned the pool noise might be distracting, it was quiet once we shut the glass doors.

We had a light breakfast most mornings at the lobby's Seaview Terrace, which has an incredible view and really fast service for an espresso bar. They have great espresso drinks, both the local brew and Starbucks, and their line moves faster than at the local Starbucks.

We also enjoyed Stevenson's Library for a casual dinner on two occasions. This is a library style lounge with pool tables and live entertainment, that happens to have an excellent sushi bar. We went back here again, since the sushi was so good. Wines by the glass were nice also.

The only downside for the property is the beach location is fairly rough, at least during the time we stayed here. It was scenic for hiking, but not good for swimming, due to the conditions, waves, etc. The swimming is better at the Sheraton down the way.

The staff at the Grand Hyatt was excellent thoughout the property and they made everything very pleasant. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Probably all rooms are comfortable, but you could inquire for any special needs.

Aloha and Mahalo for your review!

We are delighted to hear you had a great stay with us and enjoyed much of the resort! We too love mornings at Seaview, overlooking the ocean while sipping on espresso, and evenings indulging in sushi at Stevenson's! It's wonderful that you also took advantage of our Tennis clinics, and we thank you for sharing your experience with our Pro team. We hope to welcome you back soon!

“Great for Familes; terrible for couples”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

Although we didn't stay long enough to give this place a thorough review, I really wanted to just flag that the Koa Kea is a much better option for a couple looking for a quiet and romantic time. The Grand Hyatt had every amenity under the sun, but lacked atmosphere and was very functional in terms of everything we saw over 24 hours.

My guess is that it would be tremendous for families as there would be entertainment for all and escape for some.

“Property, service excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

We just stayed 8 days at the grand Hyatt- and grand it was. The property Is simply gorgeous and very well kept. The service has been outstanding and beyond expectations. The food is pretty expensive, but the stores on the property are very fair priced. Sea view terrace cannot be beat for the views and food. The pools are fabulous. The beach unfortunately is small and rough. The path along the golf course is stunning with great whale watching. Popui beach is home to tons of sea turtles. This hotel cannot be beat!

Room Tip: Garden view can oversee the parking lot which is busy.

“Very good property with Outstanding service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2012

Spent four nights during the Christmas Holiday break. Beautiful property with lovely gardens and numerous pools. Well maintained. Rooms are spacious and adequate, huge bathrooms. we stayed in an ocean view room on the shipwreck side. I would opt for the pool view rooms if i were to do this again, They mostly have a partial ocean view anyway and are located much closer to the lobby. But no regrets and our room was great. The service was uniformly outstanding, from front desk to the cleaning staff, pool service, etc. Particularly noteworthy was the concierge desk. Used their services numerous times and their advice was spot on. Never once did they try to steer me to their preferred vendors or restaurants, but listened to our needs and helped us. As others have noted, it was a long walk from the parking lot to our rooms, but we didnt mind. Gym was very good. I have stayed at numerous places where they have exorbitant resort fees. This is one where I felt the $25 they charge is worth every penny. Overall we had a great experience and if you don't need kitchen facilities, its perhaps the best place to stay in Kauai.

Room Tip: The pool view is great and look for rooms that have both an ocean view and pool view
