We flew in from Oahu and arrived at the hotel around midnight. When we walked into the huge, empty lobby it was definitely a wow moment. The resort is beautiful inside and out. We spent 4 days at Disney Aulani prior to our stay at the Grand Hyatt Kauai and the Grand Hyatt wins hands down. Service was excellent - concierge, front desk, housekeeping and restaurant staff were all great. The pool area is lovely and was never crowded during our stay. My only complaint is that the non-slip surface on the stairs that lead to the water slide really hurt my feet. I thought maybe it was just me, but my son said he had the same problem. The breakfast buffet was very nice and the servers were very friendly and helpful. One morning we had an early morning catamaran cruise scheduled, so we were rushed at breakfast. I mentioned to our server that we didn't have much time. She came back with some take out boxes so we could bring some items from the buffet along with us on our cruise. I appreciated her thoughtfulness. The valets keep towels at their station to pass out to guests going on cruises, so if you forget you don't have to go back to your room for a towel. The Seaview Terrace is a lovely place to have a drink or snack in the evening while enjoying the torch lighting ceremony and evening entertainment. The staff also has a parrot talk each morning at Seaview Terrace which was fun. We found it very relaxing to have our cocktails on the wooden bench swings located along the beach path while taking in the beautiful evening sky. We had a poolside room, which actually had a partial view of the ocean. It was a very convenient location and there was no noise from the pool. The room includes a nice patio with a table and two chairs. The room was large and well appointed. The bathroom was huge. Housekeeping staff always kept us well stocked with towels and tolietries. There is a $25 resort fee, but that includes parking, free Wifi, newspaper, etc. We did a zipline tour with Outfitters Kauai which is located just a few blocks from the Grand Hyatt. Also took the Kipu Ranch ATV tour, which was also an easy drive from the resort. Kauai is a beautiful, laid-back location and I'm so glad we chose to visit the island and stay at the Grand Hyatt. It was the best part of our Hawaii vacation.
