“Beautiful Sea View Terrace”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

We had drinks in the Seaview Terrace of this beautiful hotel only. The service was terrific and the view was outstanding. There were several free hula show and Hawaiian singing. We sat in the front row listening to the music and watched the sun set. This is a great place for drinks and snacks.

I am one to always read the Trip Advisor, before I book a hotel- I feel it’s important to read- referrals are always the best ones when deciding where to stay.
I highly recommend this hotel. It was a wonderful experience. We stayed at the Grand Hyatt for 3 nights- and we wish we stayed longer. It was amazing.
So many positive things about this hotel
- Clean
- Friendly staff
- The views are outstanding
- Very big hotel
- The pools are amazing! and there are so many. Man made Lagoon is the best!!!!!!
- The water slide is amazing!!!!!!! You will love it!! Adults were on it more then kids.
- Honeymooners they give you a lot of free stuff ;)
- Excellent restaurants in the hotel!!!! - Yum chum is A MUST! We still talk about it! The best Japanese food we’ve ever ate. - And the Italian restaurant is a MUST. My husband and I are Italian, so we very critical when it comes to Italian food, this restaurant was fantastic and met all expectations. Unfortunately Tidepools, we weren’t impressed with.

Negative
- there is one negative thing about this hotel- actually its not about this hotel, its negative about Kauai itself, - its very quiet. By 9 pm most places are closed. If you are looking for night life- Kauai is not the place. If you are looking for simply relaxation at night- Kauai is the place to be!

I highly recommend Kauai and this hotel. When we go back to Hawaii, we are coming back to Kauai and the grand Hyatt 100%!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: close to the lobby. the hotel is SO big. You want to be close to the lobby. Ask for a hotel close to...

We stayed at the Grand Hyatt for four nights at the end of our honeymoon after island-hopping around Hawaii, and I had expected the Grand Hyatt to be the 'grand finale' to our honeymoon.
However, I have to say I'm somewhat unimpressed by it:
The grounds and main building are very beautiful. I highly recommend sitting in one of the beach-side kabanas at night with a cocktail (in a special 'beach-friendly' plastic cup, but hey ho).
I can also recommend the meditation session at the spa and the spa itself is apparently one of the best on Kauai.
However, when it comes to rooms and service, the Grand Hyatt leaves me rather cold.
Our room was ground level near the tennis courts and fitted with both a king-size and a queen-size bed. It's, as you would expect, clean and comfortable.

The service (check-in / out, restaurants and concierge) is professional, and I think that is the problem: the Grand Hyatt is professional to a fault.
I've stayed at other hotels of the same category and the really good ones manage to be both extremely professional and to have that certain something that makes a hotel / resort / service memorable. The Grand Hyatt, despite all it's polish, is not in this league - I found it rather soul-less.

We also had a fire alarm during one night, which brought the faultless professionalism crashing down: reception didn't answer any calls, confused guests gathered in the corridors not knowing what was happening. Many, including myself, had tried to call reception to no avail, in the end we got a message over the tannoy to get back to our rooms as this was 'just a technical glitch'. Just for the alarm to go off again ten minutes later. Ok, fire alarms can happen, but I would have expected a member of staff coming to inform and assist guests, who were left in the corridors to their own devices rather than just a tannoy message.

From the moment we arrived, we were met with friendly staff, luxurious accommodations, and wonderful cruisine. The "Tidepools" restaurant, one of two restaurants on the sprawling 48-acre resort, provides a glimpse into tropical, open-aired, upscale intimate dining with a large array of
both seafood and meat selections. Pricey, but worth a special occasion.

If you like excellent service, beautiful landscaping and a relaxing atmosphere this place is for you. The staff goes out of their way to be helpful including the team at the concierge desk that is the best we've ever seen. The woman who checked us out at the end of our stay has been working at this hotel for 16 years so the positive work atmosphere for their employees translates to excellent customer service. The lagoon is an excellent feature and chairs were never hard to find. The only 2 negatives are: 1) we had to travel to a nearby beach to enjoy the ocean because the surf at the hotel's beach was too rough; 2) there don't seem to be many good ocean front room views so save a few dollars and book an ocean view room because the views seemed equal. Definitely worth a return visit

Room Tip: Don't pay extra for an ocean front room - the views are about the same as ocean view rooms

We planned on a 4 night stay at the Grand Hyatt following stays at The Four Seasons BI and Four Seasons Maui. We expected that the Hyatt would not be as spectacular/service oriented as the Four Seasons properties, however, we were super disappointed. The pools and grounds of the Hyatt are beautiful. The building itself and the guest rooms are very outdated. In my opinion, the hallways and elevators are downright gloomy. The only update to the room was the bathroom. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and given a room with 2 beds (king and full), which we thought was strange given our request for 1 king bed. I called down to the front desk and spoke with the manager about my concerns (outdated rooms and 2 beds) and she explained that the decor is a personal preference and that many guests also complain about the layout of the resort. I was not expecting her to add to my list, but I did agree that a 10 minute walk to the pool and/or lobby is not optimal. She offered to give us a different room, but explained that it would only be a smaller version of the room we were in. We also stayed on the " club level" which provides breakfast, afternoon and evening snacks, and nonalcoholic beverages throughout the day. It's a great perk and one that we've enjoyed at other Hyatt properties. This Hyatt, however, does not have specific floors or rooms designated for club level guests. The club room is several floors away and also very outdated. To say the least, we stated one night and switched hotels the next day. I lost my Hyatt points, but the manager was "nice" enough not to charge us the early departure fee. In comparing this property to the other Hyatts we've stayed at and other resorts in Hawaii, it's got a lot of updating to do. If we return to Kauai, we'll look into the St. Regis on the north shore.

Room Tip: Wait until the resort is updated
