“Fantastic Condo in Fantastic Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013 via mobile

Stayed in Jan/Feb 2013 and loved every second. The condo is very well renovated with new bed, furniture, appliances, etc which makes things very comfortable. On the top floor of the complex allows for amazing views over the ocean. Truly ocean front. The condo had everything we needed; even had beach chairs in the closet.
Jane was amazing to deal with and everything that was promised was exactly as we expected. When coming to Kauai in the future we would not hesitate to stay in the same condo again.

Our stay at unit #110 in Kuhio Shores was fabulous. The owners were beyond accommodating from the moment we contacted them to the follow up to ensure we had a great time. They've thought of everything in the unit from binoculars to watch the whales, to great wifi and ipod dock and the most comfortable bed you could wish for. We're seasoned travellers both for work and pleasure and this condo far exceeded expectations. The complex is quiet and the unit is on the ground floor - it doesn't compromise on views and we loved being able to wander outside and sit on the wall and watch the sunset, turtles and whales. An absolute treat to have been lucky enough to stay there.

Room Tip: Unit #110 gets fabulous sunrises and is on the ground floor giving great ease of access to wander in...

We stayed at Kuhio Shores in January. It was our first visit to Kauai and didn't know what to expect. Jane was absolutely wonderful to work with. Before our arrival she sent us a list of places to visit and restaurants that offered great food at affordable prices.

We were the first guests to stay in this unit after the beautiful remodel. #402 offered privacy with a good view. We looked out at the small bay and could see out onto the ocean when on the lanai. We were able to watch fishing boats, catamarans and even saw a few whales.

In the evening we would take a glass of wine and walk out to the front where there was a 180 degree view of the ocean, surfers and beautiful sunsets. There is also a small sandy beach next to the condo's making it easy to enjoy the water during the day. However, we chose to visit many of the other beaches while there. During our visit we explored the entire Island and decided we would like to stay at Kuhio Shores again.

I would recommend this condo for adults as there is no pool.

The building is situated for THE BEST ocean views compared to nearly every property in Poipu. It does not have a pool, but this was not an issue for us, maybe if you have small kids, not so good. There is a beautiful Park, Prince Kuhio Park, across the street. Prince Kuhio condos are across the street, this is Kuhio Shores, which is ON THE WATER, you can't get any closer unless you jump in! Sunrises from the east wing of building, sunsets from the front of the building. Great rocks out front to explore, hang out on... Grills to cook that yummy fresh fish on. Lawaii beach is a quick (<3 min) walk to the end of the property, with enough sand to sit and veg and great snorkling. The cove on the north (?) end is great snorkeling with Turtles, but a bit rougher water and a very rocky entrance, so just be careful. You can walk (10-20 min depending on your speed) to The Shops at Kukuiula, where there's great restaurants, shops, the natural grocery store http://kukuiula.com/theshops and a Wed 4-6pm farmer's market w/festivities.

#416 is a 1 bed/1 bath unit on the 4th floor at the west (Beach House Restaurant side), end of the building. It is on the front of the building. The unit itself had everything we needed - nice dinnerware, coffeepot, dishwasher, blender, micro, fridge, etc.; beachtowels (I believe provided by our rental agency, (Great Vacation Retreats), cooler, I think 4 beach chairs; tall lanai furniture, which was great for viewing over the railing; binoculars; TV, small stereo, hairdryer, laundry soap, I'm sure there's something I'm forgetting, but we felt the need for nothing except food, drink, and snorkeling rentals (there was a very large set of flippers already there too...). The unit itself was very clean, no bugs, comfy bed (and I'm real picky here). We loved the barstools at the kitchen counter, where one of us could sit, watch the view, and be with the one who was cooking.

Two minor points:
1. The way these units are set up, the bedroom would get very stuffy at night and leaving the window open was not an option as it was too noisy for us. There is a ceiling fan, which helps, but we were there in February 2012, so not sure how stuffy it may get in the summer, just know this so you can expect it. You cannot hear the surf much at all in the bedroom to drown out any other noises. The sofa in the living room is only a loveseat, so not a good alternative, even for a nap, unless you're short.
2. The lanai is one that has a wall that juts out on the left side, so the pristine view from the building is slightly obstructed. You still have a KILLER view, and there are many units that have this problem in this building. Poor design by the architect, I guess. Don't let this dissuade you, but know you won't have it all. Here is a link to a map of the building, note the 4th floor is numbered differently. http://www.greatvacationretreats.com/resort-maps.htm

Don't hesitate to rent this unit, we were very happy in it despite our timing being bad and having torrential rain during our trip. The lanai is covered, so we just sat out there and watched the whales and rain, it was still lovely and we're going back March 2013.

Great Vacation Retreats was our rental agency and they are marvelous! We rented snorkel gear from them and it was quality stuff. They provided basic necessities for the unit too - soaps, papertowels, tp, bath towels, etc. Really responsive folks, and super friendly and helpful. Don't hesitate to rent through them.

A great website for the Poipu area: http://poipubeach.org

Enjoy your trip!

Room Tip: See map of building to decide which unit you want to stay in.

We totally enjoyed our stay at Kuhio Shores unit 411. The owners really love their unit and love sharing it with their renters. The decor is charming and the place is extremely well equipped. Wendy puts a lot of effort into keeping it nice and making it easy to take care of. I really appreciated all her recommendations. In addition to the nice unit, we LOVED Kauai. I usually take a morning walk, and the area around Kuhio shores was a great place to walk. You could see the mountains and the ocean at the same time. The National Botanical Gardens and the Spouting Horn are within walking distance. Of course, probably the best feature is the beach next door, where the snorkeling is fantastic. Then there's just sitting on the lanai and watching the ocean. I thought Maui was the place to see whales, but I saw many more whales sitting on the lanai in unit 411. There was also the sunrise to watch, the waves, the turtles, the surfers, and the boats and sea kayaks. There are plenty of really good restaurants in the area.
We also liked that the bedroom was not right on the ocean. We recently stayed in some other condos where we had the sound of the ocean, and I thought it was too loud, especially on a windy night. We still could hear the ocean and get the breeze, but it wasn't loud.
The only drawback of Kuhio Shores is that they don't have a pool. I like sitting in the sun and cooling off in the water. The beach next door is a little difficult to enter just to get wet for sunning and a pool would have been nice. But as you can tell from my comments, this really didn't deter me from having a fantastic stay. I'd recommend this unit only to couples - it's too small for more than 2 people.

Room Tip: We loved 411, but I'm sure the other rooms would be great, also. Some are bigger and some have...

Stayed in this 1 bedroom East facing unit during early February with my husband. I had found it only by chance, due to a cancellation. I've heard that with this condo building one must book way in advance due to high demand. We were so glad we were able to stay at this beautiful side of the Kauai island. The unit was perfect for the two of us with beautiful bay/ocean views from our balcony. The unit was also recently renovated which made it even nicer for the price we paid. It did not have A/C but did have fans in every room including the bathroom. The ocean breeze throughout the day was wonderful as well as the ocean wave sounds for sleeping and relaxation. The owner had provided beach towels, boogie board, beach chairs, cooler and snorkeling equipment for us to use. The king bed was super comfortable and the double sinks in the bathroom was nice too. We snorkeled right next to the building and saw colorful fish and BIG turtles swimming around us. I would recommend wearing booties until you get in the water and then put on your fins. It is very rocky and sharp as you get closer to the water but, beautiful once under water. We never did try the beach on the West side since it seemed small, so we would boogie board at Poipu Beach instead. There are numerous locations to swim and snorkel, you just got to hone in on a spot or you'll end up driving around instead. The location was away from the hustle and bustle of Kapaa and Poipu yet close and easy enough to drive east or west for never more then an hour. We could see whales off shore from the telescope the owner has in the unit but the best place we saw tail slapping and breaching whales was at the end of the road just passed the Spouting Horn. WoW, is all I have to say. Loved it here and would definitely book in the Kuhio Shores condo again in the future.

Room Tip: Kuhioshores.net is the building website with pictures, availability chart and owner contacts.

We visited Kauai for two weeks mid-January 2013. We couldn't be more thrilled with our decision to stay at Kuhio Shores 110. When you walk in the condo, the view of the ocean takes your breath away. The shore is literally steps away, and we spent a great deal of time on the lanai watching whales, surfers, turtles, and the inquisitive birds on the lawn. (They even have binoculars so you can watch breaching whales up close.) We enjoyed the fact there was a table and chairs in addition to the lounge chair on the lanai. Many people visit the Beach House restaurant next door to watch the amazing sunsets, and we enjoyed the same view every evening from the lanai.

We loved being on the ground floor and being able to walk out to the edge of the ocean. My husband was able to walk right out and snorkel in front of the condos. We left the windows open at night to hear the waves, and we felt very safe doing so. The condo is furnished and decorated beautifully with tile floors, nice counter tops, and quality appliances.

The condo is immaculate and stocked with absolutely everything you could ever need. The kitchen has plenty of pots, pans, dishes, utensils, spices, and tupperware. They even had a tray to carry our meals out to the table on the lanai so we could enjoy the view at breakfast and lunch. There are plenty of bath towels and kitchen linens provided. They also provide beach chairs, a beach umbrella, beach towels, and a cooler which we took advantage of several times.

There are coin operated washers and dryers not far away in the Kuhio Shores complex and they were always available when we needed them. There is free secured wi-fi, and there was a helpful guide in the condo with tips and restaurant menus. Shopping, restaurants, and dive/snorkel shops are nearby.

The owners and a local realtor were very helpful with emails ahead of our trip and had the condo keys waiting with our rental car.

We are well traveled, and this is one of the nicest places we have stayed. Kuhio Shores 110 is the ideal location for a vacation get-away, and we will be planning a return trip in the future.
