“Great Location on the Sunny Side of Kauai”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

We have been to Hawaii 19 times over the years and we spent New Years staying in a third floor condo at Kuhio Shores. The grounds and the building are well-maintained, and the location is spectacular. Every unit has an ocean view from the lanai. To the east is PK bay and to the west is Lawai Bay. Snorkeling was very good even in rough surf: clear water with no roiling. PK is hard to enter due to the rocks, but the way around that is to enter on the little sandy beach on the far east side of the bay. Lawai beach was crowded at times (especially when a portion of it was closed to acomodate the snoozing monk seal) but the owners of The Beach House restaurant allow folks to use their lawn. We watched whales and turtles from our lanai. This location is close to everything in the Poipu area: Allerton Gardens, Spouting Horn and all of the restaurants. It is a great jumping off point for Waiamea Canyon and the west side of the island -- and a 25 minute drive unto Lihue. There are not many grocery stores in this area, and those like Sueoka's and very expensive, so we picked up groceries at the Times Supermarkt in Lihue on our way from the airport. All in all, this is just a gem of a place. Having said that, it is a condo building so if you like the amenities of the Hyatt you will not find them here (i.e., no spa, no pool and no room service). But for the two of us it was just perfect for our holiday.

Room Tip: The building starts with numbers X01 adjacent to the road; the higher the number the farther you are...

Close to everything - 2 minute walk to Lawai Beach, Beach House Restaurant, 5 miniute walk to Baby beach.
Quick drive to Kukui'ula Village Shopping Center, groceries, Da Crack, Spouting Horn, Poi'pu beach.
Lawai beach was great for snorkeling and Beach House was great for a bit more formal dinner.
We stayed in #311 and it was well maintained, very well equipped (beach chairs, towels, umbrellas, coolers, pool noodle, patio furniture) and very comfortable. Way nicer than our condo at home!

In January I started looking for an ocean front condo where we could go and enjoy celebrating our 25th anniversary, this would be our first trip to Kauai, so I sent out several requests and all were answered but I decided on condo 213 because of the other reviews, the pictures of the condo which were lovely and the privacy of being out away from the other rooms, u literally feel like u are the only ones here except for the few people who occationally walk by below on the lawn in front of the building. I can't quite get used to how wonderful it is to sit on the lanai every morning and just look at how pretty the ocean view is. The ocean roar is constant and so soothing. The condo has everything. There are windows that open beside the dining room table so you can see & hear the water while seated there. The turtles are so cute in the surf, watching the surfers every day and evening. The Beach house restaurant is just a small walk and it is very nice to have a drink at the open air bar facing the water, the view is incredible. Kauai has been a wonderful relaxing and enjoyable place to visit and experience and having this condo as a home base for two weeks has made it the perfect spot. Thank you Robin for all your help and input.

Just returned from a fabulous stay at unit #302 - it's a great apartment, in superb location - highly recommended!

The condo complex is nicely located on the southern shore of Kauai, a trivial 5-min drive to the picture perfect beaches of Poipu, and sitting directly on a decent little beach and great snorkelling right in front of the condos.

On the specific unit - the owner has just completely renovated the decor and furniture, and the effort really shows: we were the first people to stay in the upgraded unit, so previous comments/photos may not apply. The flat is large for a 1-bedroom and very tastefully furnished with high-quality furniture and appliances, with a good bathroom and bedroom, making it a nice place to chill when you aren't on the beach.

It has everything you could hope for: brand new kitchen equipment, large TV with Bluray, everything for the beach (brand new boogie boards, etc, etc).

We had a great stay, and having such a great apartment to come back to every evening was a big part of that.

Lovely condo with self parking. The condo was stocked up with all beach gear, beach towels, beach chairs for us to use so it was lovely. Can see turtles in the waves below and a very nice sunset. Need to drive to poipu beach for swimming as mostly rocks in the water below. A very hard working staff who sweeps the premises all day and night! Shared washing machine/dryer facilities with coin operated powder dispenser very thoughtful. Slightly awkward as to where to keep our valuables when we're out as there is no safe and when we returned one day, a very polite and apologetic window washer was entering the condo as there was a mistake as to when the last occupants left... felt slightly insecure as it seems the condo wasn't all that secure (plus the bedroom screen window was ripped when we arrived). Overall, a pleasant stay.

I'm sitting here watching the sunrise on my last day on this island. Kuhio Shores #302 was the perfect base from which to launch our adventures. The unit is large for a one-bedroom, with great east-facing views that look out over the water and the sunrise, but stays cool in the afternoons as they sun moves west. I was a little apprehensive about just how good the view will be, since photos showed a road running off on the left, but it's a small quiet road so wasn't an issue at all. You get a view of the small bay and the waves breaking on rocks below, rather than the big blue ocean just beyond, like the south-facing units enjoy.

There is no pool at this complex, and the BBQ is strangely off in the far corner by the street and not on the grass facing the ocean. We didn't miss these two items but most other places I've stayed (usually on Big Island) had both.

The unit itself is beautiful. Sue was very thoughtful in stocking the condo with everything you need for the beach - cooler, good quality boogie boards, straw mats, towels, etc. The kitchen has been filled with good cookware and kitchen utensils. There is no air conditioning in the unit, but the ceiling fans and very quiet room fans cool the place down wonderfully. The furniture is plush and beautiful, and there is even a Bose music dock for your iDevice.

Location cannot be beat if you like snorkeling. The beach by the Beach House restaurant has some good snorkeling. A 15-minute walk down the street brings you to the old beach ramp, where there is SPECTACULAR snorkeling. Poipu Beach is a great place to hang out and relax, and is less than a 5-minute drive away. Bubba's burgers, Merriman's, and several other restaurants as well as a high-end grocery store are walking distance.

We were mesmerized as soon as we entered this condo: the view of the bay below is incredible. Sue did a marvellous job on this condo and was so easy to deal with.

I am usually a bit worried if a security deposit is asked from us. We always treat rented condos as we would treat our own, so that everything is fine when we leave. But what if the owner has no intention to return the security deposit nevertheless? As visitor from Europe there would not be the slightest chance to get the money back. No worries in this respect with Sue. She immediately returned the security deposit after we had left.

The sparkling clean condo is equipped with everything you could possibly need in terms of cookware as well as beach stuff (high quality boogie boards which we took to Hanalei Bay for boogie boarding, beach mats, brand new beach chairs, wonderful beach towels etc etc). The bed is incredible comfortable, the towels are soft and plush, I could go on and on. You can see and feel that this condo was updated recently.

What we loved about this condo: it is facing east towards the bay where you cannot only watch the sunrise in the morning, but also watch the turtles feeding in the bay below from your lanai. As I do have very fair skin, I cannot stay in the sun the whole day long. I was therefore really happy that there is shade and a cool lanai in the afternoon (the south facing condos of this complex do have sunny lanais till the sun sets, which would definitely had been much too hot and too much sun for us).

We loved our lanai with the sound of the ocean and watching the turtles so much that instead of going to restaurants we rather got meals to go and ate on our lanai every day.

Another major plus of this condo: We did neither hear the street nor any roosters (these guys had kept me awake during a visit 4 years ago when we stayed inland), just the soothing sound of the ocean. As we could arrange for a cross breeze in the condo, there was no need for air condition (not even on the "Kona wind days").

Snorkeling (which we love) is right next door at Lawai Beach. There is no pool at Kuhio Shores which we did not miss at all due to the beach next door. Overall the Kuhio Shores building is very well kept and taken care of.

We went to the beach house lawn next door to watch the surfers and sunset every night.

Kukuiula Shopping Village is pretty close to Kuhio Shores. We walked over when they had the farmers market and got some fruits plus specialty salt from "Salty Wahine".

We loved that we could do so much without the need to drive.

We had a wonderful vacation at Sue's condo and would love to be back one day.
