Description: Plantation Gardens Restaurant & Bar is located in a beautifully restored plantation manor on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai. Dating back to the 1930's, the estate once served as the plantation manager's home for Hawaii's first sugar plantation, the Koloa plantation. Later, the estate was acquired by the Moir Family who built the world famous gardens that surround the restaurant. Our menu reflects the heritage of old plantation Hawaii, which celebrates the abundance and beauty of the Hawaiian Islands. Our fresh fish is caught daily by local fishermen in waters off Kauai. We use organically grown vegetables and herbs picked fresh on nearby farms and from our own gardens. Guests may choose to dine on our lanai overlooking tranquil gardens, lily ponds and tropical foliage or in our exquisitely refurbished dining room which features gorgeous Brazilian cherry wood floors, woven bamboo tables and plantation ceiling fans.

“Courteous and friendly server.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

We made the reservation one hour prior and they seated us overlooking the garden. I had a vegetarian dish (couscous with tofu) which was very good. It's convenient if you are staying at Kiahuna Plantation.

Amazing food. The fish is so fresh and definitely get the appetizer sampler! Great service and view of the gardens is wonderful. We celebrated our anniversary and were treated to their delicious baked hawaiian...yum.

The food here was very good, great service. Slightly pricey and everything was a la carte. Food had great flavor and a variety of options to choose from

“Okay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2014

Visited this restaurant on a cold night. Staff did not close very large windows to open air or turn off ceiling fans. On a nice night the ambience would have been great but the failure of staff to anticipate the needs of guests was a considerable turn off. People were literally shivering and asking for warmer tables (us and others we overheard) and were told if they wanted to be warmer they would have to sit at the bar.

Service was otherwise friendly but average. Food was uneven. My partner had pork tenderloin and it was truly excellent - tasty and succulent - whereas my beef pot roast was very dry despite many pieces being covered with a large (at least a quarter inch) pad of gelatinous, untrimmed fat which was inedible and had to be separated from the meat first.

“Good, nice setting, just not quite 5 stars.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2014 via mobile

This is a nice restaurant. It had a nice vibe, it's spacious, the gardens and the area is great. The food in General is good, just wasn't out of this world. Same with the drinks.

It can take some work to find the place! When you enter (either side). Drive down one or the roads between the entrances and you will find it. Otherwise just park up and stroll around like we did. Nice looking resort. The fish pond at the entrance will entertain any little ones.

They have some very cool gardens at the back. My only complaint is that it was roped off at 6 pm already. It wasn't dark yet and no need to do that. We explored anyway. It was cool and should be part of the visiting experience IMHO if you have kids.

I had kids (3 and 6) with me. The Keiki menu is ok, but could be better. My son (not exactly adventurous when it comes to food) had chicken fingers and waffle fries. It was fine. Daughter had the veg stir fry. Veg were a little soggy and over cooked. She didn't care for them.

Drinks. Cucumber Mojito (10 out of 10 for appearance) was refreshing but didn't have much of a kick, and wife's MaiTai was ok.

Food. We had a salad with Arugula, Avocado, Edamame, Orange Vinagrette, etc. Was great. We said we were going to share and they split plates for us. Bonus points. :-)

Main course, I had the chefs trio. The pot roast, the seafood lau lau, and 'fresh fish'. Pot roast was solid, fish was very good, but the lau lau just didn't do it for me. Lacked any flavor.

Wife has the fish special it was outstanding. I tried some and instantly had envy over what I ordered.

So all in all, some good, some really good, and some average.

If you were staying a week in Poipu, I'd make sure it was on your list. Less than that it might not quite make the list.
