Description: Plantation Gardens Restaurant & Bar is located in a beautifully restored plantation manor on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai. Dating back to the 1930's, the estate once served as the plantation manager's home for Hawaii's first sugar plantation, the Koloa plantation. Later, the estate was acquired by the Moir Family who built the world famous gardens that surround the restaurant. Our menu reflects the heritage of old plantation Hawaii, which celebrates the abundance and beauty of the Hawaiian Islands. Our fresh fish is caught daily by local fishermen in waters off Kauai. We use organically grown vegetables and herbs picked fresh on nearby farms and from our own gardens. Guests may choose to dine on our lanai overlooking tranquil gardens, lily ponds and tropical foliage or in our exquisitely refurbished dining room which features gorgeous Brazilian cherry wood floors, woven bamboo tables and plantation ceiling fans.

“Not wortth the trip”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013

The Plantation was recommended to us by our Hotel Staff and friends who had dined there before. It was a cool night and even with coats we were chilled. Service was very slow and they were out of several items on the menu. The food was nothing to rave about. The view was beautiful, but we could hear their Luau from where we were dining. I would suggest they are more of a tourist attraction than a great dining location.

“Valentines Flop”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

We made reservations here for Valentine's Day because we were staying on the same property. The hostess was less then friendly. We were seated in a corridor near a ramp which was a bit odd. There was another table and couple in the ramp area with us. Beyond the wall we could hear a very rowdy group. One woman in particular laughed loudly and obnoxiously the entire evening. W couldn’t tell if the noise was coming from the bar or another dining area.

We had the appetizer sampler which included Crab Rangoon, Ahi Tuna Poke, Corn Fritter
and House-Made BBQ Kalua Pork Manapua.
The crab was good, poke was warm, corn fritters were oily and the pork buns just okay.

For dinner my husband had a trio dish with
Seafood Lau Lau, Grilled Fresh Fish and Pot Roast
The pot roast was good but the cuts of fish were close to the tail and not very appetizing

I ordered the pork tenderloin with island potatoes hash. I didn't like my dish but in this case I believe it was a matter of taste. Others might enjoy it.

Dessert was what they called a Baked Hawaiian. Sweets normally save the meal but not so in this case. The ice cream was good but the brownie was stale.

For the price you're paying you should have great service and food. Neither was true that evening.

However, the young man with the water pitcher did make several attentive passes.

“unique place to have a nice dinner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

This place you cannot park right in front, so you do need to walk 200 yards from your car, but it is quite a unique place, very beautiful. Food is quite good too

“Lovely evening”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

We had a very good meal at the Plantation Restaurant. The restaurant was sold out the evening we went so we started with drinks in the bar. Our table overlooked the grounds there is no ocean view. There were a number of families with kids - most well behaved. The wait staff was knowledge and friendly. Service was prompt without being rushed. Trying to find a parking space can be a problem as the restaurant doesn't have assigned spots or valet.

“Our Kauai restaurant of choice...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013 via mobile

We ate at the Plantation Gardens several times when we came to Kauai in January 2012. It's been a long 13 months until we could get back there again! I have a severe food allergy so dining out is a rare experience for me. I always present a card stating clearly what my food allergy is (white potatoes) and how my food needs to be prepared. Not only does the chef at the Plantation Gardens take this seriously but every single waitperson on both trips explained unequivocally that what I was ordering (the baby back ribs) was not prepared any where near a possible source of cross-contamination. Extra caution was evident in the service provided not to mention the fact that the food is absolutely yummy! We usually try to dine early to avoid the crowds and food fumes so that also means it is still light out and a tour through the orchid/cactus/bromeliad garden adjacent to the restaurant (run for free by volunteers) adds to the experience. We'll definitely be back again next year!
