“Nice unusual setting reasonable food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013 via mobile

Heard a lot about this before we ate here so maybe expecting too much
Loved the setting with the tide pool flowing in and around the restaurant and tables. There was fun to be had feeding the fish who swam around the tables
The food was good but not great. We were expecting some very special dishes but nothing really stood out for either of us

“Mouth watering!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013 via mobile

Our meal at Tide pools was the best meal we had while we were in Kauai. I had the Mahi Mahi with a little mango salsa which melted in my mouth. My husband is an Ahi conesseur and he said it was the best Ahi he had ever had. It was seared to perfection. Our 7 year old, while not mesmorized by the koi fish swimming below him, ate his entire meal ( can't remember what he had because I was too busy enjoying my dinner) he also loved the lava cake.
Can get a little breezy and cold at night so bring a
Light sweater.

“Do not go to Tidepools during a luau”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

Tidepools seems as if it could be a very good restaurant. The architecture and decor are stunning. Fish swim beside the tables; birds lurk seeking fish to eat. The staff have been very well trained and they are very accommodating. The food is very good, although not as good as that at the finest restaurants. Salads and the melting chocolate cake are the best items.

Unfortunately, on some evenings, the Hyatt produces a luau in a space that is not far from Tidepools. There are no walls between Tidepools and the luau. The luau features loud rock music from the 1970s and 80s; not a note of it is even slightly Hawaiian -- maybe Detroit or Atlantic City. The music is intended to energize the all-you-can-eat-of-pig-from-a-pit crowd. For me, this ambiance is not consistent with fine dining.

If the Hyatt has any sense, they would close Tidepools during luaus.

“Great food at a beautiful resort!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013 via mobile

The food here was incedible! Me and my wife at here twice while in Kauai. The Volcano Opah may be the best fish dish I've ever tried. The crab cakes were also great. The only bad thing I could say is that the service could be improved. Waiters were a little forgetful and I could understand them being busy but at these prices everything should be close to perfect.

“Great trip finale!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

We had a fabulous time! Food, service and atmosphere were great. It's a great way to come check out the Hyatt even if you're staying somewhere else.
