“Waiohai Life...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2014

So let me start off by saying we've been staying at this resort since 2005 and have had nothing but a spectacular time. Poipu has been noted as one of the best beaches in the world and it lives up to the title. For those people looking for exclusivity when it comes to the beaches on any Hawaiian island... get over your elitist attitude! If you took a moment to learn about the people/culture you would have discovered that there are no private beaches. As per the law the beaches are open to the public (which it should be)! You just can't access the beach via private property for example the Waiohai. That being said, this property is always perfectly manicured, the staff is always helpful and friendly no matter what time of day or night. Of course if you follow the golden rule and treat others the way you like to be treated that's the response you will get. Everyone we passed whether it be maintenance,market staff or reception desk all greeted us with an aloha and a huge smile! Even the staff behind the bar (Captain Jack, Nate & Tony) remember us when we show up. Of course every once in a while there will be a minor maintenance issue (ex.shutters stuck on track) but they always send someone up to take care of it as soon as possible. It's always been clean and if we weren't happy we would be moved. Our room is usually a garden view but 90% of the time we have a view of garden and ocean. We have had the option to go to other locations and stayed in Ko Olina in Oahu once which was beautiful but we prefer Kauai and the serenity here. Adults with or without kids can enjoy the resort since it's well spaced and the beach is a stroll away. There are lots of resort activities to participate in. The wildlife is pretty much a guarantee whether it be turtles (don't touch them cause it's illegal), seals getting some sun, fish everywhere near the sandbar or whales spouting. Shopping and restaurants are within walking distance and there are luaus, kayaking, Napali coast and much more we haven't done yet but we'll be back and be staying at the Waiohi. For those of you that get the chance to stay here enjoy all that it has to offer and take lots of photos for when you return home.

Room Tip: If you don't have kids & want peace and quiet ask for a room in Hale 5 or 6 which is a littl...

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2014

We stayed here June 2014 with our kids and in-laws. It was nice. Our first room had the worst view possible. We were on the lowest floor, looking out over the back parking lot. Not what you want to see in Hawaii. I asked them the next day if they had and other rooms. Being June, they were pretty full, but they did have one and gladly moved us. It was a much better room. The staff was all very nice. It did have a nice beach attached, which all of the places on Poipu do not necessarily have. I like to run, but there isn't a nice place to run along the water. That was disappointing. That is not the hotel's fault, though. This was a nice place to stay with kids.

Room Tip: Just make sure you don't get an island view in building 4. You will be looking at a parking lot.

Thank you for visiting Marriot's Waiohai Beach Club! While the first villa did not work out for your family, we are pleased to hear the front desk was able to work with you on the view. We appreciate your review and hope you will visit us again in Hawaii!

So many great things to say about the Waiohai.

1. You are on Poipu Beach - A beautiful sunny beach where you can swim, surf and snorkel. You are also likely to see sea monks and sea turtles;
2. The courtyard is beautiful with many tropical plants and several swimming pools;
3. There are complementary resort activities including luaus, craft fairs, fitness classes on the beach, activities for children and live music at the Hono Bar and Grill;
4. The Hono Bar and Grill (located on the beach) is delicious;
5. The location is good as the Waiohai is minutes away from shopping, restaurants, golf course and the highway;
6. Rooms are nice and spacious and kitchen is fully stocked with cookware;
7. Friendly and helpful resort staff.
An all around fantastic experience!

Family had 3 condos for almost 2 weeks. Would go back tomorrow. GREAT Resort experience. On the beach, easy access to highway, shopping and restaurants. Amazing number of resort activities available. Situated well to get to other Kauai attractions like SeaBreeze tours and ESPECIALLY the Smith Family Luau. Staff a 5+ star experience.

Room Tip: Hale #1was GREAT. Best advice is to pay for upgraded Maid Service. It's your vacation for cryi...

We are owners at the WAIOHAI and love coming each year. Unfortunately they are in desperate need of room renovations. They promised it five years ago and say now it will be this fall, we will see. They used to give everyone a coupon for a complimentary drink at their Honu bar but have stopped that. We have seen many cut backs this year.

But over all the resort is incredible, perfect location, great pools and beach. Kauai is the most beautiful of all the islands.

Room Tip: We have an ocean view room as owners. Used to love Hale 8, but this time they put us in Hale 2 on th...

Often times when I go on vacation I feel like I have to go...go...go and explore and learn all that the place has to offer, and really don't end up spending much time at the hotel. However, going to Kauai and staying at this resort, couldn't be more opposite. I truly feel it has everything I need and I feel like I NEVER have to leave. While either sitting poolside or beachside it is all right there. I enjoy being able to go and get my own food and cooking inside the room overlooking the ocean. There isn't ever a need to go out when you have a view like we had last time...no restaurant could beat our view! Staff is friendly and place is always very clean. Poipu is by far the sunniest part of the island and if you do need to do some exploring everything is an easy car ride away. I enjoy coming here with my family since it truly is a relaxation trip!

So, having said that - after some haggle and frustration over our definition of our original view and the managements definition of that view - we were upgraded to a fantastic view. I am certain it could not have been better. I would suggest renter beware, however, we spoke with many people who had the disadvantage of the parking lot or wood view with nary a peek of the water. Although we felt very frustrated by the lack of customer service upon our arrival, that aspect was turned around by the upgrade. Our day of departure we chose to do the time share pitch and, even though we had two different last names staying at the condo, only one couple was allowed to go - no skin off my back but pretty odd. Nonetheless, the bigger issue was they did the pitch right at check out so getting our check out extended was not without feeling like we were begging. We understand that they offer to keep your luggage and let you clean up in the workout facility but, just wasn't really what we had in mind. So, condo was spacious - huge bathroom on one side and tub/sink actually sort of in the bedroom (just like the picture) and the toilet and shower behind closed doors in the other. But for the fact that we were never given enough bath towels and the beach towels were not regularly changed out, we were very pleased with the condo and the view and that wonderful patio to take it all in day or night! With that kind of view, you feel like you are getting a piece of paradise. Mattresses, pillows and sheets were exceptional as long as you were not in the sofa bed - which to be kind, were lacking at best. Fortunately they did not have to be shared - ie; only one person. Kitchens were adequately stocked - not any wow there but they were adequate and the pack n sack at the front is competitive with the in-town grocers so makes much more sense to shop there. Staff was wonderful! Wait for "happy hour" to buy any of your smoothies etc - even then, sort of chilling prices but...............The pools are marvelous and allow adults without children to be away from that very same noise and still have access to the outdoor bar service. There are also multiple hot tub options. The exercise facility was nothing to write home about but when you have that beauty to run in, why be holed up in a room. We were startled to be charged for parking and that the local beach connects to the hotel "beach" - maybe it is all local but that is not the impression we had. Nonetheless, the locals seem to be able to easily come and go on that beach and the property and somehow we felt there should be more exclusivity than that. We will return to Kauai - as this was a return trip. Will probably try the Marriott in Lihue which seems to not be as "shared".

Room Tip: If it isn't an ocean view, don't even think about it.................I promise you that you...
