“Unit #221: comfortable, pretty good location, a fine base for kauai.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013

We stayed in unit 221. Booked ahead through parrishcondos, the operator was very helpful (++) and booked us on a one-week deal (we only stayed 6-days, turned out to be cheaper than booking individual nights).

Like many other reviewers, we were wary of the crickets/bullfrogs at night, which I'm told was potentially horrendous depending on where you were.

I think the listing was described as 'island charm', which was a nice way of saying 80/90's era finishings -- they were pleasantly nice. Warning: Fridge had a terrible glass surface that almost fell on us twice. fair-sized countertop, old but serviceable stove to boil water & cut-fruits. Nice bedroom, lots of space to house a family easily (for 2 ppl it was pleasant overkill). Bathroom was fine to get yourself ready for the day.

Unit location was fine -- Have to haul your luggage up 2 flights of stairs. That was that max I was willing to do (would not book a 3rd floor unit) so we were happy. Unit 221's balcony faces the next door hotel's parking lot -- we never really stayed there for the ocean view anyway. Still, that meant less bullfrog noise. Repeat, for people scared of bullfrogs: it wasn't a problem for us at unit #221.

Great location near poipu beach, IMO one of the better beaches in Kauai (southeast coast was great). It's the first stop after the poipu village shopping centre roundabout, so the location near to the village (cool restaurants, icecream, coffee, lounges, shopping) was something we didn't even realize. It is a 30-min drive north to kapaa & it's associated restuarants/traffic though. If you're 'doing' the island, you're almost certainly going to go north all the way to Hanalei Bay: poipu's location simply made that trip a bit longer. Just consider that as a byproduct of staying in poipu, rather than of the Waikomo Stream Villas itself.

Considering its location amongst other nearby condo developments that cost way more, we considered this a bit of a gem, one of the holdouts against the development that had been going on nearby. There was a condo building being constructed at the time of our stay, but we didn't hear any noise or have any construction road blocks at all.

Would recommend to friends.

Since each condo is privately owned, this review is only for #223. This condo is in bad need of remodeling and I believe it is going to be done this year, I hope. Upon entering the condo, the odor was so bad, we had to immediately open all windows and doors to let the air flow through. Not sure if it was just a musty smell, but we did go out and buy room deodorizers to help mask the odor. Kitchen counters are cracked and chipped, all appliances are rusted and very unpleasant and unsightly to use. We had 2 weeks here, so tried to make the best of it. The bathroom is also in need of remodeling; toilet only flushes if you hold down the handle for 6 seconds. The nicest part area was the bedroom; the bed was comfortable and the living room TV is nice and large. Furniture was quite uncomfortable, too. We also had to vacuum the screens immediately as you couldn't see out of them for the dust build up. The location is great, near to Poipu beach and shopping. Just choose another unit until this one is remodeled.

This condo and our stay was FABULOUS! We stayed 12 days for my husbands 50th birthday. The location is perfect and the condo has a welcoming atmosphere with all the amenities you could ask for while on vacation. The condo is super clean and has a very open feel. There is a washer and dryer inside the unit which is fantastic for drying towels after hours of beach hoping and pool side sunning. The kitchen is full of all the essentials allowing us to shop for and cook some meals (saving us money for fun adventures). Im aware that the units are individually owned and I hope the owner of 403 knows just how much we loved the unit. I would go back as often as possible....

My two teenage daughters and I really enjoyed our time here at this precious gem of a condo. We loved the open floor plan and the quiet seclusion. The property was fully equipped with everything we needed in the kitchen and plenty of bath towels for all of us. The girls really loved the wireless internet! Having the in suite laundry was also great convenience. The pictures truly don't do this home justice... This condo was also close to everything such as a quick stroll to the beautiful sunsets on the beach to a quick walk to the shopping and restaurants. I'm really going to miss my morning coffee on the lanai with the tropical trees and watching the koi swim in the stream. We will definitely be booking next year!!! Thank you to the owners with providing us with all the information about the area. We really felt this was a home away from home.

Waikomo Steam Villas are privately owned condo's, so I can really only speak to the one we stayed in, but it was great. The complex overall is really well taken care of. There are gorgeous gardens everywhere that make for an enjoyable walk even when you're just going to your car. It reallly helps the "tropical" feel hit home while you're on your vacation here.

The Pool is not huge, but is very nice. At first, I didn't think I'd spend a lot of time at the pool, since you know, we're in Hawaii and the beaches are so close. What ended up happening a lot was us spending the day out at various beaches or doing other stuff, and hanging out at the pool near the end of the day and relaxing. It is nice being away from the sand, and other people. It also blocks most of the wind...so if it's a windy day at the beach, the pool is a nice fallback plan.

The location is pretty good. You're not really within walking distance to a nice beach, but you can go for nice ocean-front walks pretty easily. What is nice, is that it is just a short drive to several nice beaches. It was never a hassle to drive down to a beach. You're close to a shopping area with some nice shops within walking distance, and a Bubba's Burger joint.

The only thing that is not close is a Target or Costco, which are important when you're vacationing in a Condo. It is about a 20min drive to Costco/Target which are located in Lihue.

We stayed in a larger loft condo with my in-laws, our two small kids, and us; 6 in total. It was a great fit. Inlaws were up in the loft, we had the master bedrrom, and the kids slept on foamies on the floor.

The things that did bug me a little were minor. i got a bit tired of walking the 3 flights of stairs everytime we went anywhere, but that's the price you pay for the loft-sized condo. And you have to be aware of the Roosters. Roosters are a fact of life on K'auai. They are loud. They start up early in the morning. Also, there is a large population of huge frogs in the streams that run through the villa. They can get loud as well. Neither of these things would prevent me from staying there again, though. It's just something to be aware of. perhaps bring a set of earplugs just in case it would bother you more than it bothered us.

Have fun!

Room Tip: lots of stairs if you rent on the 3rd level. Not bad if you're okay with stairs.

We recently stayed at Waikomo Stream Villas, booked through the Parrish Collection. Our condo was just what we had hoped for during our stay. It was very well appointed, the art work informative and beautiful and the free Rooster wake-ups are hillarious! When getting up during the dark hours of the night for a drink of water, we made the mistake of turning on the DR light and the roosters outside must have thought it sun up! We found the pool area relaxing and always clean and the flowers intoxicating. Novella at the front desk is the best and she had so many ideas of where to go and what to see. We explored to our hearts content or just lounged the day away. The only draw back that we found was the inability to fully use the lanai due to some rather loud steroes and shouting of the peole living on the other side of the fence from the WSV grounds. The PALs

This was our first time staying at Waikomo Stream Villas. We booked it through Parrish Collection, and they were very easy to work with. Checking in was easy and the condo was as advertised. As soon as we arrived, we accidentally locked ourselves out of the condo but some lovely neighbors helped us connect with a property manager who came and helped get us back in within 15 minutes. We were impressed to get such quick help even though it was late and a weekend. The property is beautifully maintained, with a koi pond, tall trees, bamboo, flowers, and meandering paths. The condo (532) itself was a little dated but clean and comfortable. The one thing we missed was a hot tub next to the pool. Another thing mentioned in other reviews was the level of noise coming from the road and the birds, particularly in building 5. I think it is especially loud because you have to keep your windows open since there is no air conditioning. The frogs didn't bother me at all. I generally sleep like the dead, but found myself waking up multiple times through the night as different creatures started chattering, especially the roosters that start crowing at 4:00 every morning. It's definitely an experience that makes you feel a little like the Swiss Family Robinson. As far as beach access, you can walk to Sheraton Beach in about 10 minutes, and Poipu Beach Park is more like a 15 min walk or 4 minute drive. It was wonderful to be in such close proximity to great beaches. One other thing worth mentioning is that the condo offers high speed internet service through an internet cord only. There is no wireless. We incorrectly assumed that high speed internet access included wireless access. Since we had iPads, Kindles, and phones so we had to go buy our own little router and set up a temporary wireless network. Overall, Waikomo Villas offers excellent location, space, and tropical ambiance at an unbeatable price. We were very happy staying here.

Room Tip: Try to get a room away from the road side. Higher rooms make you feel like you're in a treehouse...
