“Splendid beach, safe for everyone”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2013

A splendid beach with all sorts of activities, lifeguard on duty. Pool like area for smaller kids and snorkeling area as well. Many locals having picnic down there with their kids.

“Loved it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

Great beach and beach park! Even on busy days we were alwasy able to find parking. It is only a short walk from the lot to the beach.

On the other side of the sand bar (not serviced by the lifeguards) there is pretty good snorkeling. There is a surf/snorkel rental shop right next the Brennecke's Beach Broiler which sells packaged fish food for $4.00. The fish are used to being fed at this area, and will approach you in knee deep water. We held the food above our heads and dropped the pellets into the hip deep water while filming as lots and lots of big fish came right up to us to eat. Although they are not aggressive, if you try holding the food directly in your hand you may get bit as they try to eat it. That happened to my 19 y.o. son. So I do recommend holding the plastic bag outside of the water or putting it in your pocket once you are done feeding them. Also, don't litter the plastic bags or leave them in the water; be sure to throw them in a trash receptacle after feeding.

Love Poipu Beach, and can hardly wait to return!!!

“Family friendly - not for hard core surfers or those seeking peace”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Beware - if you have read that this is one of the best beaches in the world (or even Kauai), you could be very disappointed on arrival. It's a small, man-made cove, which gets pretty busy. Sure the sand is golden and soft, but the views are pretty ordinary.

What makes this place so special is that the beach has such a gentle slope into the ocean relative to others nearby, the waves coming in aren't very high and the cove is full of beautiful fish. This makes it a great familt beach, especially if you are a snorkelling beginner. Add in the presence of a very proactive lifeguard station (often using its megaphone to warn of dangers!)and it caps it off as a perfect place for families with little ones.

Go to the left or right hand tips for the softest sand entry into the sea. The middle of the beach has very coarse coral at the shoreline.

“Four Years Later”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

I have spent the past four years vacation in Kauai... When I leave, I am counting the days until I return. This friendly beach is close to facilities, Sheraton bar and has some of the most beautiful views on the south side. It is kid friendly and has some decent waves for swimming.
