“First class, highest quality, creative but comfortable food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014

Every salad, soup, main course and dessert we ordered was expensive but divine. The ingredients were fresh. The dishes were creative but not at all weird. If I wanted something fresh light and healthy, I could've ordered that. If I wanted something heavy, creamy and comfort-y, I could've ordered that, too. When we were tired and just wanted our food, so we could eat quickly and go to bed, they accommodated that. When we were enjoying a long luxurious meal, they did not rush us. The waiters were polite and knowledgeable and professional. Everything had natural and distinct flavors.

Dinner and breakfast - this applies to both. I would recommend this restaurant to any adult, but perhaps a child might not get much out of dinner? Breakfast ok - there is something for every age.

“A gem in Poipu/Koloa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

This was the best meal I had on Kauai. We were 45 minutes early for our 7:30pm reservation, but were seated immediately. The dining room is small, which is nice. The servers were prompt and friendly. Nancy, our main server, was outstanding. She brought a wonderful combination of relaxed and formal. Red Salt here in DC would be considered fine dining, with a matching stuffy waitstaff. Not here. We smiled and laughed a lot.

We had ahi carpaccio and seared scallops for apps. Dad had the filet mignon and switched out the sides for the fries and dips that come with the NY strip (he hates mushrooms and leeks). Good choice. The dips are great, and he said the filet was the best he's ever had (and he's hard to please). I had seared ono in a coconut-sake broth, which was delicious. Mom had the special, a fish I can't remember with vanilla carrot puree and a green bean salad. The plate was gorgeous, and I'll definitely be trying to replicate the carrot puree. For dessert, we ordered the macadamia nut dark chocolate torte and the lilikoi creme brulee. Both were exquisite.

Oh! And definitely try one of their cocktails. The special mojito and the cucumber cocktail are both fantastic.

Overall, this place is a gem. We visited after dark, and the next time I'm on the island, I'll be going during the day to see more of the resort. If you're on Kauai, go here.

“Red Salt - great service and presentation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2013

We started with an amuse-bouche of vichyssoise which was flavorful and interesting. Followed with a roasted beet salad that offered a generous portion of fresh greens, beets, pine nuts and pickled red onions. Husband had Island prawns appetizer that was beautifully presented and zesty in flavor. Son had onion soup which was also beautifully presented and quite good. Seared ahi was wrapped in ham and the contrast between the salty ham and the delicate ahi was quite nice. The risotto and edaname were a bit bland. Pork tenderloin was tender and succulent. Seared mahi was good but not special. Desserts of creme brulee and chocolate macadamia nut torte were just average, although the creme brulee did come in an interesting long slim dish.

While the service and presentation were excellent, the food is just not on par with equivalent fine dining in Seattle, San Francisco or New York. That being said, Red Salt was our favorite fine dining restaurant in Kauai. The food is very good, but not memorable.

“It was ok, but not for the price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2013 via mobile

I thought it was a nice atmosphere and good service. The food wasn't bad but not spectacular, and given that its a pricey place I had higher expectations.

“Delicious!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2013

Ate here for breakfast (even though we were staying at the Sheraton). The food was wonderful - the portions were rather large. Service was also excellent!
