“Good value; 5 star stay at 4 star property”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

5 star stay at 4 star property. All in, I was very happy with this choice for a 1-night stay.

Pros: tremendous view on the beach and from the restaurant - very relaxing!; great view of water from my partial ocean view room in the 3000 building (usually in hotel-speak that means you can see the ocean if you crane your neck, but here it really did have a nice view, and a deck); decent size pool area; free yoga classes; decent free mai-tai at check in (small but surprisingly strong!) and wine tasting option for SPG members; parking right outside the room; friendly staff; AC (!); less expensive than other large resort options, and it seems like they would have the same drawbacks. Fairly quiet in the mornings.

Considerations: room was clean though furniture was a little rough around the edges; buildings look a bit dated from the outside. You also have to sign out pool towels and are threatened with a $10 charge if you don't return them - didn't feel like they trusted guests as adults (I'm sure people do take them frequently, but that would seem to just be the cost of doing business at the beach). Main restaurant is a bit pricey, but has a fabulous view.

Great for a 1-3 night stay - if staying in the area longer, I'd prefer to add another stop.

My sister and I stayed there for 5 wonderful days. The best part of our day were sitting on the wall you can walk to above the water and watch the magnificent sunset with the locals! The service was great at the poolside area along with the restaurant/bar on the resort. The location was walking distance to 2 shopping centers with other restaurants. We had everything we wanted at our fingertips! What a fabulous place to stay for our first trip to Hawaii!

This was a prize won at a golf tournament on another island and we had expected less, but Sheraton Kauai was conveniently located, excellent courteous staff, clean room and breath taking ocean view, all of which made our one night stay wanting more.

The location truly is beautiful, but I have lots of reasons for being a bit tough on this Sheraton. This was a mother-daughter vacation, and we were looking forward to the fitness center among other things--we were informed at check-in that it was closed. We had wanted massages, but discovered that the massages were given in a cabana in plain view to anyone walking by. Although we were in a premium ocean-front room, we never received the perks we were entitled to with our SPG status. With the fitness center out of commission we were hoping for some nice walks--again, not to be. The only real beach walks required scheduling a shuttle to the Grand Hyatt. The area around the Sheraton is quite congested, and sidewalks are of short duration. Theoretically we could walk to local shopping, but again, no sidewalks and lots of traffic. The food was hugely over priced. The servers didn't know what was in the food, the chef and servers at Rum Fire had little interest in creating special dishes, and the fruit cups at The Link ($6) had rotten strawberries. The hotel seems eager to serve gluten free needs, but has no concern whatsoever for vegetarians or vegans--believe me, you will go hungry. And then there's the 20th century internet. If you are very lucky, you can access the 1 mbps service, though logging on could take 10 minutes. We could access the internet only on the lanai-- it disappeared inside the room.

Some other things you should know: the hotel is actually quite close to the beach, so the views are spectacular. On the other hand, the views are so good partly because the swimming pools are small. There is no pool set aside for adults only. We found the hotel staff, especially housekeeping, to be very responsive and helpful. Restaurant staff was something else altogether.

You can have a wonderful vacation at the Sheraton. The location is a convenient one in many ways, with easy access to local shopping centers with great restaurants and tempting shops. We were able to drive to the island's major attractions pretty easily. Just be aware of the hotel's limitations.

Room Tip: Be aware that the so-called "garden" rooms are actually across the street. We were pleased...

Aloha Anne N,

Thank you for your insightful feedback regarding your recent mother-daughter trip at Sheraton Kauai Resort. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the resort's location, however, we apologize for the inconveniences you experienced during your stay. There is never a good time for upgrades, and we are sorry that the fitness center was temporarily out of order during your time with us. Workout equipment has been provided for guests at our grand staircase overlooking Poipu Beach in the interim, and jogging maps are always provided by the concierge for those looking to walk or jog outdoors for cardio. We are sorry if these options were not communicated to you. With regard to your dining experience, we recognize the growing dietary needs of our valued travelers, and your comments regarding our available options have been provided to our food & beverage team. Throughout the resort, it is our goal to recognize our SPG members and provide the privileges entitled to you. Please reach out to us so that we may learn more. We look forward to the chance to be of service to you again and to exceed your expectations. Mahalo.

If I had the choice I would live there. Absolutely the best staff and the finest facility on the island. The food was excellent as well. It's convenient to anywhere you want to go, and if you don't want to leave the resort that's great!

Room Tip: It's well worth it to upgrade to a waterfront room.

We vacationed in AUG & stayed at the Sheraton Kauai. Such a nice property & great staff. Great lunch at the Lava Bar by the pool albeit a little expensive..$30.00 before tax & tip for a sandwich & burger. Goo food - pricey. The property was very clean, great beds & linens for sleeping. We checked in late & were booked for a garden room..they gave us a pool view which was an upgrade. They were probably full, but we were thrilled with the beautiful view of the pool. We hope to go back soon & would stay here again - although our preference is the north shore -- its more lush and garden-like. I would recommend this place to everyone I know. Aloha !!

Room Tip: The garden and pool rooms are across the street from the main lobby area of the hotel. The ocean fr...

We recently stayed at the Sheraton Kauai for our honeymoon. It was a great experience for us. When we checked in we let the front desk know it was our honeymoon and we received a complimentary bottle of champagne. We also received 2 complimentary Mai Tai's. Our room was clean and neat, no complaints there. The staff there was very nice and accommodating as well. After looking at the hotel on a map we were concerned that the rooms in the garden view and partial ocean view areas would be a long walk to the beach, however, that was not the case and it was much closer in real life. It was great to be ocean front and be able to get to the beach without getting in car. I would definitely recommend renting an ocean front cabana for the day where the restaurant staff waits on you without you having to leave the beach. The resort also has several activities you can join and also one of the few Luaus on the island. We would definitely recommend the Sheraton Kauai to anyone, we had an unforgettable honeymoon!
