“Beautiful Kauai hotel right on Poipu beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

Although this hotel did not look like much when you first drive up... once you get to the lobby..you see how beautiful and open it is. Beautifully located on Poipu beach, there's fit pits & tiki torches & an open airy true Hawaiian breeze. Our room on the second floor had high ceilings & a great view of the pool & the beach. I even took a lei-making class at the hotel..and they had a bunch of other classes I would have taken if I hadn't already made other plans! The Rum fire restaurant had a great atmosphere, but the food was so-so & as expensive as expected for the hotel convenience..so go elsewhere..there's a shopping plaza up the road & a few more things further out. They also had a convenient shuttle service which we used to go to our luau (and not have to worry about how many mai tais we wanted to drink)

“It's the view!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

This was the fifth time in as many years we have stayed at the Sheraton Kauai Resort. Some background. Our first visit was the best! Everything was excellent. Room, dining, amenities, and service were exceptional. Our second year, not so much. Unions had started a work stoppage due to all the renovations that were being started, so there were a lot of cut backs, especially on service. Third year, construction, but w/ compensation. Last year, construction almost done, but we were placed in a different building which ruined our experience and made us work harder for the room we wanted in the building we wanted. The resort is huge and we lucked out our first time getting a deluxe room in the Ocean Wing or building one. The very best! Last year, we we placed in a deluxe room over the swimming pool. Wow, that was the worst! Noisy all day and all night, especially with a wedding party staying at the resort. So, this year we made sure we got back to the Ocean wing, building one and w/ the construction finished, we were anticipating a stay much like our first visit. Well, it was not to be. Our room was the highlight of our four night stay. The dining was way off in quality of food and service. The amenities were there, but one had to pay for everything w/ a $30 resort fee. We did not use them, as we had other activities planned. We were impressed w/ the new Market and all they had to offer until their electricity went out for a couple of days and could not offer all they had. Our view was spectacular! We had great sunsets everyday. And our room was large and more than comfortable. It was the lack luster pool bar, Lava? and the new restaurant, Rum Fire? That was our biggest disappointment. The contrast from our first year to this past year was astounding. Sheraton has a long way to go to measure up to the high standards they had five years ago. Renovation does not always make a place better. At least Sheraton cannot renovate the view!

Room Tip: Always ask for the Ocean Wing or building one! It's pricey, but it is the whole reason to go to...

“SPG Platinum Member Review”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

I am a current SPG Platinum, Lifetime Gold Member of the SPG Program. This is my third stay at the Sheraton Kauai beginning in 2008. I stayed in Feb 2013 one night using SPG Points. My wife and I love the Sheraton for its laid back feel and its location on the South Shore. We arrived around 11pm to check in. At this time there was no line and I was glad to see we were upgraded to a room in the Ocean Wing for our one night. I did request this prior to arrival. Checkin was very friendly, they recognized my Plat. status and we were given a card for one complimentary wine tasting up to two people during the Sheraton Social Hour held every Mon Wed and Fri 530-630pm in Rumfire their, new updated resturaunt. As Plat. members were also had free continental breakfast which includes bottomless coffee or tea, choice of fresh juice or side of fresh fruit, choice of one item from their Fresh Start menu, for an upgrade fee of $7 you can order from the Kauai Classics or South Shore Omelet areas of menu. I opted to do that my wife stayed w/ continental.

We were given a room on the 1st floor (out of 4 floors) of the Ocean Wing. Its just a short walk from the checkin desk. In the past we have stayed on the 2nd floor and 4th floor. The 1st floor room seemed to be larger than the other rooms we stayed in and had a patio with chairs. The second floor rooms have the largest lanais and the 4th floor room had the best views. All Ocean Wing rooms have a view of the water and they also are the closet to the water. If you like to hear the ocean at night then I would recommend you get a room on the 2nd-4th floor so you can leave your lanai door open. Being on the 1st floor you cant do that. The room was nicely updated, nice bed and bathroom. They do have a fridge in the room.

The property is very nice with an updated pool area, nice beach, cabanas for rent and tennis courts. RumFire, the main rest. was completely renovated about a year-2 years ago. Its a modern rest surrounded by windows. My wife and I commented how we do miss the old rest. with its laid back Hawaiian feel and it was also open air where you could feel the breeze etc...We also missed the old breakfast buffet, now it is ala cart. That being said we only had breakfast and the food was good and service was nice.

The Sheraton is located very close to2 shopping Plazas where you can get Bubba Burgers (awesome) and Puka Dogs (wife loves Puka Dogs). Its also a 5 minute drive to the Beach House restaurant.

Now be aware there is a $30 resort charge per night plus tax. That gives you 1 night of valet parking
then self parking after that, lei hula lessions, morning yoga, island and toll fee calls, internet access and a mai tai at Lavas lounge (pool resturanunt)

As a Plat. member we have free valet parking and free "high" speed internet. Overall we would def. come back to the Sheraton Kauai. We wished we could of stayed longer but we were heading up to the St Regis Princeville and then off the the Westin and Sheraton Maui. Please let me know if I can answer any questions

“Great resort in a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

We stayed at the Sheraton Kauai Resort March 1-8, 2013. We had reserved and been confirmed a king garden room. When we got to the room, we were disappointed to see it had two double beds. I called the front desk, who informed me they had no king rooms open that night but they could move us to a king room the next day. After a long day of traveling, this was not what I wanted to hear. She offered to transfer me to a manager, who acknowledged that a mistake was made (which I appreciated very much), but that they couldn't move us to a king until the next day. To make up for the mistake, he offered us an oceanfront room, which we accepted. We were very pleased with our room. It had been recently updated, was very roomy, had a large bathroom, and the best part was the lanai, which gave us a great view of the ocean. The hotel has a great beach/pool area, and is very close to another great beach, Poipu Beach. It is also within walking distance to nice restaurants and shopping. We were very pleased with the service at the hotel as well. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. True Aloha spirit! To me the only downside is that the concierges push timeshare tours when one inquires about tours, restaurants, etc. It erodes their credibility a bit when they say they can save you XX amount of dollars on certain tours if you make an appointment for a timeshare presentation.

Room Tip: The oceanfront rooms have been recently updated and they are much nicer than the garden rooms (which...

“Good location”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

We booked through Priceline and received garden room, which we expected with our bid amount. Despite other reviews, we didn't have a problem with being "across the street." The walk to the beach was comparable to many resorts we've visited.
The pros: Outstanding location, attractive landscaping. Responsive staff, handy shuttle service.
The cons: Overall room decor and furniture very tired-looking. Bed sheets and pillows felt cheap. Mold was visible on walls, particularly in bathrooms. Sound-proofing non-existent! Major maintenance needed I.e, exterior painting, lanais railings and supports, etc. If we hear this property is updated,we would consider returning
