“Wonderful hotel on the best island in Hawaii!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2010

My husband and I stay here for a week while on vacation and had an awesome time. The hotel is beautiful and the service was great! We were personally taken to our room by a front desk staff member, she showed us all the important things in the room and explained the services at the resort. Room was awesome, bathroom was huge, flat screen TV was great, lanai was nice and beds were extremely comfortable with nice linens. Pool area was great, the hotel was fairy quiet when we were there so we pretty much had the jacuzzi to ourselves in the evenings. My husband and I enjoyed beautiful sunsets almost every night on the beach in front of the hotel. Hotel staff was always friendly and helpful and valet parking was complimentary! Overall experience were amazing, we would definitely stay here again when in Kauai!

Great small hotel with very nice, attentive staff. Nice, quiet location along Poipu beach but within walking distance of Roy's, Starbucks, and other shops and restaurants. The hotel's Red Salt restaurant was excellent, best in Kauai. Not surprising... Chef Sanchez worked in the kitchen at El Bulli in Spain, which is one of the best restaurants in the world. The seared ahi appetizer is outstanding. Jim, at the bar, makes a point of remembering your name. Felt like Norm at cheers by day two.

What a wonderful week we spent at this lovely resort! The last resort to be rebuilt on Poipu Beach after Hurricane Iniki in 1992, the results were sure worth the wait. Every detail is thoughtfully planned; the hotel is so close to the beach, that we could have jumped from our balcony into the water. The service in the restaurant was superb and the chef very creative and inventive in his cuisine. The entire staff were charming and helpful, the facilities spotless, the rooms very comfortable. We're already planning our next trip back.

Staying at the Koa Kea was amazing, This was one of the best trips I have been on and I have been on several. Everything from the rooms to the staff were pure perfection. If you love snorkling, this is the perfect place, so many fish within steps into the water. If you want to go and relax without screaming canon balling into the pool kids, this is the place to go. Every momoent we were there, we felt special.

Rarely does a hotel exceed the expectations of a frequent traveller- but this hotel did that for my family. If you are a fan of boutique hotels with excellent service, this place meets that need. From the small grounds with it's perfect beach, quiet poolside, and amazing staff, to it's perfect rooms, fabulous restaurant, and small spa- there is little to find fault with here.

If you have a child, do not be afraid of all of the comments about lack of kids screaming. We brought our 10-year old and he was perfectly happy (and quiet) here. The staff were great with him, and there is so much to do right at the beach there was no worry about keeping him entertained.

The room- a perfect example of boutique hotel living. Nothing is wasted in the space. Loved the balcony for a lovely room service meal in private watching the sunset.

One word of caution- the hotel has no rollaway beds so if you have a child you need to choose you accommodation accordingly. This was my only complaint during the entire trip.

Some reviewers complained about the restaurant's lack of choices, and my response would be that for a hotel of the size the restaurant had far more choices than I would have anticipated. Don't expect a kiddie menu. But do expect an amazing dinner. The appetizers in particular were impressive- the care and consideration to all of the senses was just so. I will never look at poke the same way again.

Know what you are getting by choosing a hotel like this - intimate, quiet, calming, and beautiful with an emphasis on service. This hotel was a little piece of heaven and will go on to our personal hall of fame of places we'll talk about the rest of our lives.

I can't say enough positive things about the hotel and our 7 day stay. The location, property, staff, meals, everything was above expectation. We were on the grounds the second day when the General Manager walked up and introduced himself and wanted to know if everything was up to expectation! That's why things work so well, the GM is involved and not sitting somewhere behind a desk.

As a result of our time on the island and the wonderful experience at Koa Kea, we've now purchased a home in Princeville, where we hope to move full time in a couple of years.

This hotel is awesome to say the least! Although, our room was not ocean front, we still had a fantastic view of the ocean and slept with our patio door open, so that we could hear the ocean. The staff was extremely nice! Nancy waited on us during breakfast and was not only efficient, but was just a pleasure to talk to. Please tip her well if she waits on you! The rooms were very nice, the pillows a little too soft, but I am not complaining...the turn down service at night, the FIJI water by the bed, the souffle pancakes, egg benedicts...there are so many good things about this hotel. The drinks are a little pricey, but if you have time just stop by a little carry out and buy your own cocktails for your room. We loved this hotel and will definitely recommend to others. Thanks to everyone at the hotel, you made our trip even more fantastic!
