Our 3-night stay at Koa Kea was the "splurge" part of our 13th anniversary trip to Kauai - and our time there exceeded our expectations.
We purchased a garden-view room through Tingo at a discount, and when we arrived they had generously upgraded us to a partial oceanview room on the first floor and brought us a bottle of champagne.
The room was gorgeous, spotless, had one of the best beds we've slept in & we received truly outstanding service from every staff person we encountered.
We enjoyed three breakfasts and two dinners at Red Salt, with the dinners being some of the best we experienced on the island (the Kalua Pork Luau was tiny but incredible, the Big Island Vanilla Bean Seared Mahi was to die for, and the martini flight was a perfect compliment).
[FYI - Koa Kea is literally in a line of upscale hotels on Poipu Beach with a connecting walkway next to the ocean (which eventually leads to Poipu Beach's public access park). However, foliage and the hotel building itself create an oasis that makes it seem much more private.]
If we have the privilege of returning to Kauai in the future, we will definitely include a stay at Koa Kea!
