“It would have been nice if anything worked!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2010

It was as other reviewers had noted, even if you asked for an ocean view unit, you are unlikely to get one - they will give you any number of excuses! The Customer service was intermittent, like their internet protocol - which forces you to get a coupon with a code in order to access wifi in your room. They said it was for 7 days, but it was for 7 uses - they later explained. But actually, after a couple of log ins, it would stop working and you'd have to refresh the code or get a new code from the Concierge.

The condo's were dated, and could really use some upgrading, the grounds were nice, but we requested an ocean view and did not get it even though it looked like it was not full.

The bed was incredibly uncomfortable, the sofa bed was worse, and my brother-in-law ended up sleeping on the couch, and my sister slept on the chair cushions to avoid sleeping on the bed - cuz it was too hard and uncomfortable. The a/C unit in the bedroom was too noisy!

The washing machine & dryer was really old and loud, and the vent brought in dampness on the flooring in the kitchen when we ran the dryer.

We could not get the DVD player to work with the TV, so even though we brought movies to play, we couldn't get the TV or any remotes to make it work!

Other than all those issues, the unit was nice and large, the kitchen had enough dishes, etc. But not enough dishwashing detergent for the dishwasher.

We had a good time, probably because we were gone alot.

I booked this through Shell Vacation, and they always tell you that you got the last unit...and it's a lie. It was near empty when we got there, and it was never more than maybe 30% capacity.

But the beach that is in front of the property is very wild and pristine because there's hardly anyone there. You can't swim in it cuz it's too rough, but it's nice for walks.

Oh, and the wild chickens will stroll into your room if you let them. They are EVERYWHERE on the island, and definitely there's alot of chickens here, if you don't mind the crowing at 5 a.m.

There are few positive qualities about a property that has gone beyond it's prime. Yes, it is beachfront, but the beach is non-swimming and only a few units even look out on the beach. Yes there is a pool, but it is clearly a depressing afterthought - probably the secondary pool from the former Hilton resort next door. Yes, it is midway between the more beautiful Northern coast and the more intersting Southern coast, but being stuck midway on the traffic-clogged island just clarifies why one should stay either North or South, but not in between.

The real problem here is maintenence; there isn't much. I understand that some of the units are being renovated - if you stay here, insist one of those. WIthout it, the units have succumbed to the ravages of the salt air: rusted air conditioners (placed only in the bedrooms, not the living room), rusted door frames, salt-caked fixtures. Everything about the units needs updating; the appliances, the beds (oh, my aching back), the sofa, the chairs. At one point, these units must have been fine - not any more.

So - you will have a roof over your head and access to the beauty of Kauai. But don't count on too much else from this property.

We stayed for 2 weeks in unit G-20, which is in a beachfront building, ground floor. Building's G and H are the best. Beautiful views of the ocean, sunrise and beach. Our parents stayed in G-24 which is on the 3rd floor, and the views were amazing! The beach out front and to the North were fabulous for long walks, playing in the water and swimming was perfect at the first cove past the little stream. Our condo unit was nice. It had updated bathrooms with granite counters and tile floors. The kitchen was ok, cute with white tile and glassfront cabinets. It could use a really good deep cleaning and new paint job, lots of scuffs, and peeling paint, but was otherwise pretty nice. Our parents in unit G-24 had a gorgeous condo, with lots of new updates including granite counters in the kitchen, and bathrooms, and new Cherry cabinets. All in all, would definately stay here again. We did not mind the $15 per day to use the pool facilities next door, as they were much nicer and more fun than the condo's pool. Pick a beachfront condo if you can! Makes for beautiful sunrise views! Loved going either North or South for the day from this central location. P.S. We enjoyed the ducks and chickens visiting every morning...very cute and friendly.

After spending four nights at the Bali Hai Villas in a 2 bedroom presidential unit, we arrived on January 27, 2010 to complete the rest of our week's vacation at the Kauai Beach Villas. Spoiled by the Bali Hai, we were pleasantly surprised and delighted by our 2 bedroom deluxe upper unit, even though we had used our wyndham points for a lower unit.. Overlooking the pool, the view was beautiful and peaceful., even with the chickens and geese gathering on the lawn below everyday. Compared to no air conditioning at the Bali Hai, it was heaven to have air conditioning in our bedrooms. Granted, the air conditioning units are positively ugly looking and rusty on the outside, making the whole resort look worn and tired-looking. But inside our unit, we enjoyed the colorful, calm decor with three plasma tvs and bright kitchen. Our only issue is the front door, which is the old fashioned door type, hooked up on top to an lever that automatically closes the door behind you. It slams and shuts with a loud bang unless you close it yourself quietly. So close to the airport and to all points south of the island made this resort worthwhile to stay at. Their pool is adequate but the Aqua - Old Hilton right next door is much nicer and larger but going there to swim comes at a cost - $20 for party up to 4. Don't forget to go to Costco after you leave the airport in your rental car (must have!) to stock up on water and pog and food. Saved alot of money but Foodland wasn't that bad at all in prices. Would definitely return to this resort.

My wife and I stayed here as a base to see the island, and for that purpose the location can't be beat. But as other reviewers have said, the place is a little run down. They have room air conditioners only in the bedrooms, many of which look dilapidated on the outside, which make the place look cheap. But fortunately we had an ocean view and good ventilation so we didn't need AC. The exterior is in need of refurbishing and a good paint job. For the interior, our unit, G18, had peeling paint in almost every room. It had wireless internet but no TV, which was a drag because we were there during the Super Bowl, so I had to go over to the hotel next door.

As others have said, there are chickens all over the place. They're annoying and in my opinion, really detract from the vacation experience. It should be an easy problem to solve.

Near the end of our stay we visited the Hyatt Regency in Poipu. Now that's a resort! We checked with the front desk and we got a good enough rate, so we checked in there for the last two nights, since we weren't particularly enjoying our stay at Kauai Beach Villas. My wife referred to it as "vacation triage." Beautiful grounds, impecable service, and the food prices were not as bad as we feared. And no chickens!

Just returned from a month at this resort and can truthfully say that it was entirely enjoyable. The 2 bedroom unit was quiet, clean, comfortable and well equipped. Office stafdf are polite and eager to satisfy any problem brought to their attention. Although we weren't assigned a beach or sea view unit, it was an easy 3 minute walk on resort grounds to an adjacent beach that stretched for miles. The resort is ideally situated 10 minutes from the airport and is between Lihue and Kapa'a for easy shopping and meals out when not eating in. The smallish pool was always clean and never crowded and the resort grounds were kept tidy at all times while we were there. Nothing to complain about and we'd go back and not hesitate in recommending the resort for a week or a month or however long for relaxation. The island is lush and beautiful but if you want night-time action, you shouldn't be going to Kauai.

We spent our Christmas 2009 and New Year in Kauai Beach Villas, also known as Wyndham. I fell in love with this Island. I am still so overwhelmed, I do not know, where to start. The nature of this island is amazing. We saw it from bird view, booked with Air Venture, flew over the entire island and it was worthy it. Money well spent. You would not see it just driving around. You need to rent a car, without one you not gonna go anywhere. Kauai Beach Villas are in Lihue, 5 minutes North from the airport, and it was a perfect location, going North to Princeville, takes you around one hour and beaches over there are breathtaking. Whether you go to Hanalei Beach, Tunnel Beach-with nice snorkeling , or Ke'e Beach, the last before Napali Coast, which you can go hiking, but this trail is for people with good health, it was kinda challenging, muddy, and rocky. It could take you anywhere from 1 to 4 hours, depends how fare you go. But the view of the nature is amazing. You must see it to understand what I mean by that.
Beaches on South side oh the island are as well beautiful, Just to name couple, I don't remember all of them, Ship Wreck Beach, Poipu Beach has a nice snorkeling spot, saw more fish there than going to scuba dive, Which since I mentioned it, I was very disappointed with scuba. It was of shore dive, saw one turtle, but otherwise not much to see. Some rocks with algae, no corals, not much of ocean flora, not so many fish either. Much better scuba sites are anywhere in Caribbean, that was one down-side, but I was happy to overlook.
All beaches on Kauai are public, with monk seals coming out to rest and sleep for many hours, sometimes literally all day. That was really cool. Basically we liked the most either southern or northern beaches. they were wide, long, clean with crystal clear waters, blue and green, sometimes also big waves. Our least likable beaches were the ones on East coast, my friend named them "interesting", actually they were full of tiny or huge tree branches or tree roots, or anything else. I could not understand, why city or resort does not clean them? Only a few on eastern side were clean! But ... you could see an amazing sunrise every day!
With Blue Dolphin we booked early morning trip by catamaran to western Napali Coast , and OMG...what an incredible view of this part you going to experience! Whether you choose afternoon sunset dinner with lets say Captain Andy or morning you not gonna regret. Go for it!
All excursions you can book through concierge service at the reception, say Hello to Josi, she was extremely helpful. Upon check in, or breakfast presentation they will give you list of many activities that might interest you and with their discount it is cheaper.
Although we have time share already, we went for Bali Hi- Princeville presentation, and earned $200 discount for activities. If they tell you it is not a time-share sell, do not believe them, IT IS! But they were not pushy. We told them we own one and do not want to buy another one, they understood and we still got a discount.
Once there you must experience lu'au dinner, we booked in Hayett, it rained therefore it was inside, but very nice show and delicious meal. This island is called Garden Island and it is for a very good reason, right on a button. The nature is beyond any words, any expression... you need to be a poet to describe it!
The resort by itself, ...it is a typical time-share location, no evening shows, no restaurant, the size of the pool was not impressive either, actually it was very small and had no charm at all, but who needs pool, if there are so many and so gorgeous beaches! We had 2BR unit on second floor, viewing pond with a little zoo of birds, we even saw two black swans, they were incredible. The unit was spacious with well equipped kitchen appliances, dishes and grills all over to prepare food.
And yes, there are roosters all over the island, they are absolutely everywhere! We kept our a/c unit in bedroom on all the times, it was slightly loud, but gave us an excellent buffer against them, and we slept soundly through the night. Otherwise take some ear plugs, you will need them, if you want to get sleep all night long.
This was our first trip to Hawaii, but definitely not the last one, although we want explore also another islands.
