I recently stayed in unit G-23 at the Kauai Beach Villas in Lihue. I picked this property mainly because I wanted to be centrally located on the island. It was a convenient location but not at all scenic - only about 2 miles from the airport. Traffic to and from the property on the Kuhio highway was epic. It didn't matter what time we left or returned we sat in traffic constantly! Never seemed to benefit from the contra-flow system - it was like it purposely worked against us!! We rented the unit thru Kauai Vacation Rentals as this is a privately owned condo - I think some of the other units can be book directly. G-23 has a partial oceanview from the lanai only. Air conditioning only in the bedroom and it's located right next to the bed. It was loud and blew directly at the bed so one person is bound to freeze! Because of the location of this unit (actually on the parking lot side of the building) it didn't quite catch any cooling oceanbreezes so the living area was stuffy even with all the windows open. It was also kind of run down and dated but it was fully equipped with linens including beach towels. Full kitchen w/ plently of dishes, blender, microwave, toaster, dishwasher, iron, blowdryer in the bathroom. Nice big TV in the living room and smaller one in the bedroom. Cable and DVD player (although could have benefitted by having operating instructions). Lots of corrosion on anything metal and the slider didn't lock and felt like it was ready to fall off it's track. The toilet ceased to function about 12 hours after we arrived but the rental agency had it fixed by days end (fortunately we didn't have to wait around for the repairman). The community BBQ grills were tricky to light and because they were right below our unit you could hear people out there pushing the starter button a million times and getting totally frustrated. The pool is quite small but clean. A Hilton is right next door (actually confusing which buildings belonged to which property) and has a much nicer pool which we were welcome to use for $15 a day (yeah right!). All in all it's a convenient location for $150 a night but I doubt I would stay there again

We've traveled to several 2 bedroom resorts around the U.S. and so really aren't surprised by much anymore. My wife's sister and brother-in-law came with us and we had plenty of room in this unit- D15. I asked for an ocean view but the receptionist said that only owners get those. She also said that there are only 14 units that have an ocean view. So, we had a lagoon view which was fine since we really didn't hang out in the room a lot. The beach was about a 5 minute walk from our unit. It is not a swimming beach but okay for walking on and playing in the sand if you have kids. The last few days, there were quite a number of jelly fish on the beach. If you walk all the way to the south end of the beach, there are some interesting tide pools where you will see sea slugs moving around, small reef fish and many crabs scurrying on the lava rock.

In the unit: all of the utensils and appliances you'll need. Microwave and coffee maker. Small but adequate A.C. units in the bedrooms plus ceiling fans. A large ceiling fan is all that someone on the pullout couch would have at night. 3 flat screen TV's with cable. DVD/VHS combo player in the main room. Alarm clocks in the bedrooms. One BR has an attached bath and the other BR has a bath outside its door that would be shared by those in the main living area. Cleaning is on Wednesday and basically consisted of making the beds, taking out the trash, and changing the towels.

The resort: 2 tennis courts with equipment available, cold swimming pool, warm hot tub. Front desk has a few toiletries and sells stamps for your postcards. The Hilton is right next door but we never went there. If you have kids, it might be worthwhile to invest in a pass for their pool as it has a slide and generally looked better than ours.

The island: It isn't so big that you can't get to most places you'd like to go in the week you have here. This resort is about halfway between the North and West shores. We had good experiences at Polihale S.P., Tunnels Beach, and the Wailua kayaking trip to Secret Falls. Our family enjoyed a catamaran trip to the Napali Coast and the Hidden Island. I'd recommend the Ultimate Kauai Guidebook as required reading before and during your trip here. Its reviews and recommendations were right on for us.

The season: We came in the winter because things were a bit cheaper and it is nice to escape the midwest in late November. But this is not the best time to be in Hawaii. Our first 3-4 days were rainy and we were wondering if we'd regret the whole thing. But the last several days offered mostly sunny skies and we got a glimpse of why so many people come back to Hawaii again and again. If you are here and it is rainy, the best thing to do is head to the southwest part of the island where it will most likely be sunny.

There is much more we could say (and may add later) about the trip but overall, the Kauai Beach Villas is a decent place to stay at a midpoint on the road around the island. If you can get an ocean view somewhere, it would probably be worth the upgrade. We did not go to the timeshare spiel and they didn't hound us about it. The offer was $125 in a VISA card plus $50 dining certificate. Maybe if they'd offer a room upgrade, we'd have considered it.

This was our first trip to Kauai, and we spent a week at the Wyndham Kauai Beach Villa resort from Sept. 19th to the 26th through an RCI exchange. Given some of the negative comments on TA, we had some misgivings about staying here, but we were pleasantly surprised, and the resort exceeded our expectations. We were assigned a comfortable one bedroom unit (C17, third floor), nicely renovated bathroom and kitchen with updated appliances, washer/dryer, hairdryer, etc. (a huge plus!). We had a pleasant view from our balcony – lovely shrubs and plants in front, with a view of some of the low mountains in the background.

Staff were most efficient, friendly and helpful, and the welcome presentation very informative.

The resort is in an excellent location, approx. midpoint between north and south, and easy access to shops, restaurants, activities and sightseeing. The grounds are lovely and well maintained, tranquil and peaceful. The beach is ideal for walking or simply relaxing with a good book.

The pool is small but adequate and nice to come back to for a quick refreshing cool down after a day of sightseeing and activity.

Don’t let the dirt bike track bother you – we hardly ever heard the noise. Besides, you will be out and about all day.

Yes, the roosters will give you a “wake up call” at 3:30 am, but they, the hens and chicks, are part of the island charm!

The only downside, some of the air conditioners are rusted and quite an eye sore.

Kauai is a beautiful island and there is still so much more for us to see and explore, and without hesitation, we would come back to stay at the Kauai Beach Villas.

We were lucky enough to have a first floor, beach front condo. Everything was very clean and contained everything to make it feel like home. We very much enjoyed the grills just outside the pool area - the kids could swim while we cooked and just enjoyed being on such a beautiful island.

The staff was very helpful and supplied very detailed information about local grocery stores, attractions and activities. We can not wait to go back!

Great location that makes it convenient to experience the entire island. The room was very clean and well appointed. The staff was extremely friendly and genuinely seemed committed to making their guest’s stay enjoyable.

My wife and I had booked a one bedroom/one bathroom through an RCI exchange. We called ahead and requested an ocean view. They processed our request but also informed us that most of the ocean view rooms were two bedrooms and usually went to owners. We had an early flight and arrived at the resort at about 1 PM. We again asked for an ocean view but expected a parking lot view. They put us in an ocean front room in building G. It was fantastic! The view was incredible. We still had to wait until 4 PM to check in but that gave us time to explore the area and pick up provisions for the week.

The view from the lanai was so great that we ate more meals in the room than we had originally planned. We purchased steaks at Costco and made use of the grills on the property. Very few restaurants could match the combination of the meal and the view.

Just a word about some of the common complaints I have seen listed in other reviews. First, the air conditioners. They are made of metal and subject to corrosion. In looking around the property, many are rusted and falling apart. Others are brand new. It appears as though they are trading them out. As we arrived in our room, the maintenance staff was replacing ours. It only took about 30 minutes. If your air conditioner is not working, call the front desk. My guess is that they will swap it out for you. Next, the pool. It is small and not that nice. We didn’t care. We weren’t there to hang out by the pool. If that’s your thing, pay the nominal fee and go next door to the Hilton. Theirs are very nice. Lastly, the chickens. They weren’t nearly the inconvenience others had made them out to be. If you go to Kauai you will be around chickens. Deal with it.

Overall, if you are looking for an inclusive resort where you never have to leave, this is not it. There are very few of these on Kauai. If that’s your thing, go to another island. If you’re looking for a very comfortable home base, in a beautiful setting that allows you to explore the island, this is a great choice.
