We arrived in Kauai on 10/1 and I had a tee time at 7:03am on 10/2 at Puakea. I forgot out much I love this course. I arrived at 6:30am and Blake was the only person there. He got my bags loaded in the cart, gave me some range balls and he had a great attitude so early in the morning.
I checked into the clubhouse just before 7:00am and I was on the first tee by 7:03. I was able to go out by myself so I had my wireless headphones on with my Hawaiian music. What a great way to start the first day and first round in Kauai.
As I played the course, I love the fact the first few holes are pretty straight forward. You get to warm up until you get to hole #6 with a 130 yard, downhill, over a pond par 3 to really get your heart racing (by the way, I made par). The next few holes have some interesting turns in them.
I made the turn at 8:30am and grabbed a snack from the grill (wonderful people there) and started the back nice. You should be warmed up by now, because ponds, multiple levels, small canyons and doglegs come into play.
I met several of the groundkeepers during my early round and they would wave and say Aloha as I passed by. I was done at 10:00am and had the entire day left for other adventures. However, another 18 kept coming to mind.
Puakea is a hidden treasure on Kauai and I would recommend to anyone.
