“Best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2014

they may not have the best wow factor looking helicopters with all the bling and fancy wrap.....BUT.....it is by far the BEST ride on Kauai, period!!

Gary was our pilot, and he was the best! smooth ride, great flying! He was very knowledgeable, and had the music to the ride planned perfectly!

If the trip cost is bothering you DONT let it with Island Helicopters! I would pay 3X the cost to go again!

A++++++++++++++++ staff, ride, pilot, all around the best on the island!

“Jurassic Park Falls Helicopter Adventure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2014

Since only 10% of Kauai is accessible by car, you have to hike, kayak or take a helicopter or plane to see much of the beauty the island has to offer. We chose Island Helicopters which flies out of the Lihue Airport. Unfortunately we were staying up by Princeville so it was about a little over an hour's drive to get back down to the airport. Island Helicopters is the only helicopter company that is allowed to land at the Jurassic Park Falls (Manawaiopuna Waterfall in the Hanapepe Valley) because it is on private property. Other helicopter tours fly by the Waterfall for great views but landing nearby and walking up to the Falls is the real highlight of this trip. They require a minimum of 6 passengers in order to make the trip so they do not guarantee that they will land at the falls when you book your tour and advise that they can substitute the regular less expensive tour, refunding the difference. I think this just might be protection on their part because the flight before us and the flight after us all landed at the Falls.

Prior to taking off they provide booties to wear over your shoes to protect the environment during the hike to the Falls. They also recommend dark clothing (no whites, bright colors, stripes or checks) to prevent reflections on the helicopter windows which cause poor photographic opportunities. If you happen to forget or didn't bring dark clothes, they will give you a dark tee shirt to wear over your shirt. They do weigh you in the office when you check in and distribute the weight in the helicopter before the flight. They also provide a discount if you pay in cash and provide coffee and cookies before and after the flight. They also give you a free cd with photos rather than doing a customized in flight movie that you have to buy after the flight. You are able to communicate with the pilot throughout the flight and our pilot was very knowledgable about the geography and history of the area. He provided a running commentary throughout the flight.

The first stop on the tour was the Jurassic Park Waterfall and what a treat it was. We flew in low following the valley and then the panorama of the waterfall came into full view all while the Jurassic Park theme song was playing through our headsets. After landing we took a short walk to the falls and basked in its grandeur. It is a 360 foot high waterfall that drops to a small pool and then flows over a small man-made dam. For the movie, a helipad was constructed over the dam providing an area right next to the falls for the helicopter to land in the film. The helipad was removed after filming completed and returns the area to its natural beauty. We spent about 20 minutes at the Falls taking as many pictures as we could. After taking off we headed to Mount Waialeale which is billed as the rainiest place on earth with an average rainfall of 450 inches every year (Cherrapunji, India may put up an argument over this honor). Due to the high amount of rainfall, there are always multiple waterfalls flowing over the sheer cliff of the mountain.

The next stop was the Waimea Canyon better known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. This is a sight not to be missed if you are on Kauai and from the air you can take in the panorama of the entire canyon as you fly through it. The chasms carved out of the mountain and the various colorations are something to see. The narration provided by our pilot was very helpful and very interesting.

From here we flew over the Na Pali coast and witnessed the 15 mile stretch of the rugged green coastline rising in sheer cliffs from the ocean floor meeting the sky. This area is only accessible by helicopter, boat or hiking (measured in days not hours). It makes you fell so small when you see the vastness of this area from the air. We flew out over the ocean and then back towards the island providing a vista similar to many movie opening scenes, it was just breathtaking.

Finally we ended up back at the airport and got pictures of ourselves standing next to the helicopter and pilot. Definitely a nice keepsake of our adventure. If you are in Kauai and really want to SEE the island, this is the only way to do it.

“The Highlight Of Our Kauai Trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2014

The Island Helicopter Tour was by far, the highlight of our week long visit to Kauai. The staff was first rate with their helpful insight to the tour. Our pilot Warren, was most competent, easy to understand, and knowledgeable of the island.

If you miss this tour, you will miss out on the most spectacular views that you will ever see. You will not regret spending time and money for this experience.

“Awesome views, not to be missed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2014

Highly recommend the Jurassic Falls helicopter Landing adventure with Island Helicopters. This is one of the only companies that land at the falls and allows you to walk up and view the falls. Our pilot was well informed and very knowledgeable. We had views of the canyon and area that only can be seen from a helicopter. The music was well chosen and added to the tour.
We even spotted a whale during our trip. A great way to see the island plus learn about areas that were used in movies.

“Must do!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2014 via mobile

This was a great experience overall. We got to see some of the most pristine and secluded areas of the island that are not reachable by car. This is a necessity for anyone wanting to cover ground and get a true view of the island! Also they were very safe/ professional.
