“Very romantic setting and very good food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2014

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here. We were seated at the rail overlooking the water at sunset. There was a harpist playing and the atmosphere was beautiful. We split the lasagna which was a very generous portion, and very good. The salads were also very good. This is an expensive restaurant, but very nice for our special evening.

“Traditional Italian Good Service - NO Free Dessert”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2014

Party of seven, had good food and very good service, perhaps due to the added 18% gratuity. Price was on the high side for simple pasta dishes, though flavorful. This restaurant also refused to honor our "Free Dessert with purchase of entrée" that was supposed to be part of the $30.00 per day resort fee. Our waitress stated we didn't have the "Card" from Marriott which was nothing more than a small piece of paper with a four digit number printed on it, listing the discounts and offers available, and two coupons for free drinks or breakfast pastry. Upon returning to our room and reviewing the "Card" Marriott had provided, there was NO verbiage printed or insight to the affect that one must produce the "Card" to receive the discounts offered. Nor was any mention made upon check-in and receiving the "Card" that it is required to redeem the discounts and/or offers. Our room key, towel and activity card, and a Marriott Elite Members CC was not enough evidence for this restaurant to honor the offer of free dessert. We highly recommend anyone attempting to redeem this offer ensure they have their room key, towel and activity card and also bring along the little piece of paper provided by Marriott with the four digit identifying number.

“Never again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2014

Bad service and food. We had to ask for bread. The bread was stale. Our waiter disappeared and it took forever to get our food. They did not honor our coupon from the Marriott for free dessert.

“Great View but Food was Average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2014

My wife and I Were staying at the Marriott so we decided to eat here as we were tired from travel and wanted someplace close. The view was great and very relaxing. The waitress was very nice but must have been new because she had to check with someone else to answer our questions. My wife ordered the Filet for main entree and was sorry she did. She ordered it medium but they butterflied it (I guess they were in a hurry) and it was well done and she had trouble cutting it with a steak knife. My pasta dish was fine (flat noodles with meat sauce). Salads were nothing special or very large for $9.00. We split the pistachio ice cream dessert which was O K but not very rich. No wine or alcohol ordered but the meal was over $100.00 before gratuity. However you are a tourist in Hawaii at a resort so you are fair game and probably not coming back anytime son.

“Wonderful Italian Restaurant!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2014

This was our second time to dine at Cafe Portofino over our past 2 trips to Kauai in the past 4 years. I remember our dinner as being good from our first visit but this time will really be unforgettable. Three of us dined there. My had veal scallopini which was prepared very well. Our adult daughter had the ravioli and I, the lasagna. The pasta dishes were absolutely fabulous. The portions were very generous and although I shouldn't have eaten all my lasagna, I wanted to lick the plate when it was gone. Our daughter had her leftovers boxed to take with us. The setting is very nice and has a view if the bay.

The only negative is the accessibility of handicap access to the restaurant. We had to park at Duke's restaurant in the valet parking. From there you have to go to the hostess desk and ask to walk through Duke's to Cafe Portofino. Both restaurants are upstairs with no elevator but parking at valet, you enter at the upstairs level. My husband has limited mobility and it became apparent he couldn't walk the distance even through Duke's to Portofino. I asked a waiter if they had a wheelchair available. And they did! Duke's was very helpful. This walking was not a problem when we dined at Cafe Portofino 4 years ago but his health has declined.

Other than the accessibility to the restaurant, which is an inconvenience, the restaurant is excellent and one that you could take children to if you were traveling with them
