“One of the best and most beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

Gaylord's is set on the lush and manicured grounds of a former family plantation. Dinner is a fine dining experience. Seating is in a covered outdoor patio with well-trained waiters and gourmet choices. It is family friendly, but sedate. Live music is available at times, and it would be a beautiful site for a wedding.

Tropical drinks are delicious, and the menu is varied and on the gourmet side. Dress is upscale casual. We have visited Gaylord's on all three of our visits to Kauai, over the past years. It never disapoints, with freshly prepared and well-cooked dishes. This last visit (March, 2013) we had a fantastic starter of an onion tarte, that I wish I knew how to re-create. I had the garlic prawns and my husband had the short-ribs. It is a bit on the pricey side, so it may not be your nightly choice. But go at least once! Reservations are suggested. The plantation house (inside) has a beautiful bar area, antique, period furniture, and several small shops selling art, clothing, fine jewelry, and other souvenirs.
During the day there is a little train that take visitors on a tour of the grounds.

“Good food, great train ride.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

When you go to Gaylord's plantation for the Sunday Brunch, it's a very pleasant experience. The atmosphere, that of a very old plantation house turned restaurant and shops, serves a pretty good brunch, and is full of history and charm. There was a good selection of food, but it would have been better if the warmers worked a bit hotter. The fried rice was very good. After the brunch we took the train around the plantation, listening to the guide pointing out the many fruit and nut tree's, as well as pigs and sooooo many chickens!

“High praise from a local”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

Having lived on Kauai for 15 years I have been to a lot of restaurants, especially south of Lihue as I live in Koloa. Gaylord's has gone through some difficult transitions regarding menu, but now they have it dialed in to perfection. My current favorite for lunch is the Reuben with sweet potato fries. And for dinner recently I had short ribs of beef, finished with a beer batter deep fry that made a wonderful crust on the slices. Service is attentive, the atmosphere is old plantation graciousness. It's my go to place for special occasions. It's a great experience.

“Surprise Brunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

Not being a usual fan of the same old tired brunch offerings I was happily surprised at what Gaylord's offered during a recent visit. The tropical botanical gardenish setting was a great complement to the brunch choices. The food was not the typical left-over from Saturday night fare. Everything was fresh and appropriate for a mid morning mini feast. Appropriately selected cocktails and specialty drinks matched well with the food offerings. Finally, the price was surprisingly economical given the location on Kauai and the restaurant's ability to charge considerable more. It was nice to enjoy a leisurly dining experinece without feeling we had been taken advantage of simply due to the destination.

“Sophistication under the palms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013

Gaylord's is one of the most elegant restaurants on Kauai. The service is impeccable and the food wonderful. I had the mouthwatering scallops, my friends had steak and we all ejoyed our meal. The setting is romantic, all in the outdoors under the stars. A walk through the mansion in which Gaylord's is housed, completes a lovely evening.
