“Charge charge charge...everyting fron internet to parking cost extra”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2010 via mobile

The property is ok but somewhat dated. The staff was indifferent at best, rude at worst. I was embarrassed for them for the extra expenses. 12 bucks a day to park, 50 cents a minute for internet, 12 bucks for toast and juice, 20 bucks for breakfast buffet.... to get towels for the pool, you have to get cards to trade. If you lose a towel or card they charge you 20 bucks. That of course was explained with a note of superiority. the activity staff did not try to help us with what we wanted to do... just what she did... we found the stuff we wanted and for less money. All of the outdoor restaraunts and bars close at 6...lame. save your cash and go someplace that respects you and your business.

Dear Runner 801,

Having just read your review I wanted to apologize that we were unable to meet your expectations. Obviously our goal is to meet or exceed all of our guest expectations and when we fall short we try and to improve on the areas we fell short.

I am a little confused on some of your comments however, especially in the cost. Yes we do charge for internet, I think you might be referring to our business center which is a leased out operation. We do however have in-room high speed internet (there is a charge at 12.95 per day or you can get a discount if you sign up for a week) and we also have FREE WI-FI in our lobby area.

As for breakfast we offer ala carte selections beginning at $8.00, with a continental breakfast buffett for $14.95 which includes fruit, toast, bagels, oatmeal, cold cereal and various juices. Our breakfast buffett is $19.95 which includes an omelete station, fruits, salmon, assorted cheeses, breakfast meats, pancakes or waffles, biscuits and gravy, yogurt, juices, milk and more.

As for our restaurant operating hours are pool side bar and grill is open from 11:30 AM to 6:00 P.M., our Shutters Lounge which has some outside seating area opens at 5 P.M. and closes at 11 PM or Midnight on weekends. Also our full services restaurant is open from 6 PM till 9 PM which also features outside dining.

I am sorry you feel our staff was indifferent as that is definitely not the impression we try and provide here, which is evident in the majority of our reviews. I will share your comments with our management team to see what we can do to improve.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your experience, I do appreciate the feedback.

Sincerely,

Robin Graf
General Manager

Nice big hotel with a great pool area. The beach isn't that nice unfortunately.
The rooms are spacious and tidy, the staff is very nice and helpful.
To get around the island you need a car, so it's great that the parking is free :-)
Unfortunately there's nothing around so that you always need a car, but as the island isn't that big, you're quickly everywhere. To visit the island, the location of the hotel is great.
Free wifi only in the lobby

When I booked this place a few months ago, I was initially a bit suspicious about the rate. Why were comparable properties around the island so much more expensive? Even the Marriott, located only a few miles away, was about twice as much. I almost canceled but then I read the reviews here on Tripadvisor and decided to go with it. After staying here for five days over the X-Mas break, thank goodness we did because we loved it!!!

First off, because Kauai is getting hit hard by the recession, the place was never crowded. You could always get as many chairs as you needed by the pool no matter the time of day. The service was personable and friendly. The front desk person, whom I might have spoken with briefly twice before, actually remembered my room number upon check-out! They have free fast internet in the lobby. We had a great time listening to live Hawaiian music in the lounge, available every single night. Free coffee was available for early risers before 7:00AM. My kids loved the pools, especially the one built to resemble a beach with a sandy bottom and all. The slide was also a big hit with them. The property was clean and recently renovated.

Negatives? The fitness center is located in the spa which meant it was only open during spa hours. Also, there is no swimmable beach on the property. According to other reviews, I knew there is a beach a short distance away, but we were having too much fun at the Kauai Beach Resort to ever find out! Highly recommended!!!

Our timeshare fell through at the last minute and we ended up with three nights at the Kauai Beach Resort. The rooms were clean, quiet and amenities such as room service, pool(s) and food was very good. The property has changed ownership multiple times but the location is perfect for traveling to either side of the island.

We have travelled to this Hotel when it was a Radisson, in limbo, Hilton and now Aqua. Every visit has been well worth our time and money - and we will return again in 2011, God willing! Kauai is beautiful - no point saying anything else - just go and see for yourselves! If you want a 5 star Hotel - stay in one and pay their prices. If you want a clean, friendly, excellent value Hotel where the Staff truly care that you enjoy your holiday - stay at the Kauai Beach Resort!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2010

We stayed for a week at this hotel and found that the staff is very hospitable, the rooms are clean and the grounds are lush and very well kept. Location is great and is only a 10 minute trip from the airport. The grounds of the hotel are very tropical, well groomed and extremely lush. The lobby is open air, creating a great tropical atmosphere. The rooms are very clean and well maintained, though the TV is small and outdated. The balconies are on the smaller side but still comfortable. Most rooms have an ocean view.

This facility has several pools and two hot tubs. There is also plentiful seating around all areas of the pool. The poolside bar also offers $3 Mai Tai's from 4-6 for happy hour. Take advantage of this option, as normal prices are about $12 for the drinks. Towels are given out by way of towels cards, received at the time of check in. It allows for one towel per person, per room and there are no others available around the pool area, however you can exchange as many times as you need to like that. There is also a rental office on site for snorkel gear, boogie boards and other surf needs. The beach off the hotel grounds is nice, but there is no good swimming areas on the beach.

On-site there is a spa and fitness center, however the fitness center is located inside the spa and only accessible during spa hours. Spa service prices are somewhat high.

There is one main restaurant in the hotel. The doors of the restaurant are always open to the outside, making for nice ambiance. One morning we ate breakfast there and were smarmed with pesky gnats. The food was good, but overpriced. We felt the same for their bar area as well. There is also a somewhat limited selection of food choices.

Valet parking is available for $16/day. Self parking is available for $13/day. Wi-Fi is available only in the lobby and bar areas. It is available in your room, for a fee.

There is a gift shop on site, that is great for souveniers or gifts as well as drinks and snacks for your room. They are also somewhat overpriced. You're better off driving 10 minutes north to a Kapa'a grocery store to get what you'd like.

Overall, this hotel is a nice place to stay and in a great location. It is approximately 10 minutes from the airport and about the same distance from the neighboring town of Kapa'a. The hotel is centrally located and allows for short drives to the north and south sides of the island.

We stayed here for 5 days after a 7 night trip to Maui. Since we were on the go the entire week in Maui we were thrilled to have such a nice resort to relax at. The pools were great, there are 5 of them with waterfalls flowing into them. There are two hot tubs which are large and well taken care of. The resort was not that busy when we were there so we felt like we had our own personal pool. The rooms were nice and clean. We had the breakfast buffet included in our rate so we enjoyed that in the AM. There was many choices including an omelette station. The only problem we ran into with the buffet was that when we went on Sunday they tried to tell us they recently started a "fancy" Sunday brunch and we would have to pay 10$ each. One call the the manager and this was wavied. I would sat the food was fair. Overall for the price we paid I feel we got a great value for our stay. The location was great. I also got a massage and it was one of the best ones I have ever gotten, and I usually get one everytime I am on vacation. This would be a great hotel for kids, I imagine they would be entertained all day... Lastly you do have to pay for parking, but I am sure that is at many of the hotels.
