Though the review from June 15th sounds harsh I have to agree with all of it. This hotel was a huge let down! When we booked our hotel stays for our Honeymoon through Expedia we were cautious to go with names we trust such as Hilton and Radisson. Beyond the names we still came to Tripadvisor to get the reviews and we were psyched to see such rave reviews of this resort. Kauai was the second week of our two week honeymoon. The first week we stayed at the Hilton Hawaiin Village rated 4 star by Expedia. We were truly impresssed by the room, the view (mountain view), the staff especially the concierges and the valets. When we got to the Radisson (also ranked 4 star by Expedia which has since dropped to 3.5 star since our trip) for our second week we were utterly disappointed. When we arrived our room was not ready and we were not allowed to check into any other room. When the stated check-in time came and went and the room was still not ready we had to say something. They finally put us in another room that was ready. We had a pool view which was also a view of the ocean. The view was the only thing good about this room. We walked into a musty smelling moist room. The walls looked stained with water spots (hopefully) especially in the bathroom. The bathroom grout was dirty everywhere. The light is one of those florescent lights that takes a few flickers to come on and even then it was bad lighting. The brass surrounding the lights was stained with water spots. Worst of all there were ants. We'd kill them and more would just keep coming! The water pressure was good for us but the water temperature was all over the place. Really hot or really cold and back and forth constantly no matter what time of day. The closet doors were a struggle to open and close but you had to close them to get out the door. The TV remote didn't work very well. Not that we used it that much but we trying to watch the US Open as well as the Red Sox game highlights. Thurs, Fri and Sat. our 5:30 wake up call was the constant Roar/Screech of a 5 year old and a 2 year old next door fighting off a dragon. I could have sworn they were in our room before I opened my eyes. Worst of all was the bed. The sheets were like sand paper and one morning when I got out of bed I pulled the sheets back and saw dark red stains which I can only imagine were blood stains that had not come out in the wash. Ughh! Some of the issues we no big deal but it was the ones that we couldn't overlook that helped me decide to write this review. It was a real let down and kept asking my husband, "are we the only ones who find this place disgraceful to the Radisson name?" I guess not according to the June 15th Review. We did hear that the General Manager was relatively new and he was working to upgrade certain things. I am thinking the rooms should have been a number one priority seeing as they were in pretty rough shape but hopefully, for the Radisson's sake they will be next!

First of all, our room wasn't ready when we arrived and we waited 5 hours for it. Their attitude was "oh well you'll just have to wait". They charge you $6 a day to park whether you park yourself or use valet. The problem is when you come back at night there's never any parking and you're forced to valet. The lobby is nice looking but nowhere near resort quality. They spent $10 million on renevating the restaurant and spa when they should have used it for their rooms. Not only are they small but they have a constant musty odor, especially in the bathroom. The bathroom is so tiny and there is absolutely no water pressure in the shower and you can clearly hear your neighbor through the vent in the bathroom. That was really annoying!!! Their luau is lame too. They have it inside and the food was terrible. If you sat by the pool it took forever for a waitress to take your order. We had to constantly get up and go to the bar. I'm sorry but that is just not the kind of service you receive at a resort. The grounds are ok but nothing spectacular. The nightly happy hour consisted of weak mai tais andthe worst wine I've ever tasted. It's no great addition to your stay. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone and I would certainly never return.

This hotel is a gem. It is in a great location, central to Kauai, near the adorable town of Kapaa. Upon arrival we were treated to a driveway fully covered by a canopy of trees. We arrived early and were able to check in to our room anyway. Try to get a room in building 4, it's more secluded and peaceful. Our hostess at check in was wonderful, she went the extra mile to make us feel important. She let us choose between two rooms and she gave us great tips on restaurants and churches. The breakfast buffett was delicious and well worth the money. There is a cute egret that sits on the balcony of the restaurant that waits for people to leave to pick at their plates for food (quickly scurried away by hotel staff but amusing to watch.) Valet parking is the same price as self park so we did that the whole time. For activites, make sure to go to the concierge, not the activity counter. The concierge was wonderful and the man at the activity counter was a grouch(he was not affiliated with Radisson.)

Kauai Radisson exceeded my expectations

The Radisson Kauai Beach Resort is well worth your vacation dollars. It is a large and beautiful property, it's interior decorated in Island Colonial motif, well maintained, recently renovated, very clean and right on a beautiful beach (but dangerous to swim-as most Kauai Beaches are-stroll down to Lydgate Park just a 20 minute walk down the beach for a kid safe place to swim and snorkle). We paid $149.00 per night and both us and our friends were upgraded to a pool view room (with an ocean view too). I was concerned from some of the earlier reviews I read, on TripAdvisor, that this hotel might not be a good choice to stay at since I am very picky about hotels but frugal with my travel dollar (I'd prefer to stay at five star resorts but since I love to travel a few times a year my travel budget won’t allow me this luxury unless I find a truly exceptional “deal”). I am happy to report that it is a wonderful hotel (I wouldn't categorize it as a mega-resort) for your money. I've stayed at many resorts/hotels, from the Four Seasons properties to the rinky-dink, but extremely charming Kauai Sands just down the road, and for the Radisson's amenities the price can't be beat. The Radisson was built prior to some of the mega resorts on the island so the pools aren't as big, they don't have waterslides or in-pool volley ball and bridges or beach cabannas and the grounds aren't as expansive and lush as some of the newer ones...(the Hyatt had a $50million dollar budget for their grounds) but it still is very charming and reasonably appointed (If you are looking to luxuriate at $350-$600 per night then the Hyatt at Poipu, Marriott or The Princeville Hotel are great choices because they are truly "spectacular"). All in all, if you are looking for a very well maintained large hotel with a fantastic pool area that your family will thoroughly enjoy (a series of a few free-form pools and a jacuzzi surrounded by waterfalls and a separate shallow pool with a sand bottom great for the "keiki's" by the beach) a nightly and very kitchy "hula show/torch lighting ceremony", a nice beach for strolling and shelling (its nestled along a golf course and a state park), a couple of well appointed hotel shops (the sales clerks and demonstrating artists at the art gallery are extremely friendly) a pretty hotel restaurant and bar with a nice menu, a central location to all of Kauai's attractions, easy access to the airport (just a mere 5 minutes away but with no airport noise), close to many restaurants and shops in neighboring Kapaa without all the traffic and noise, and if you are a large family, mom and dad can have their own room and the kids can have a connecting room for less cost than what a standard room costs at one of the mega resorts. The only slightly negative comments I have are that the front desk staff needs to adopt a more friendly "Aloha" demeanor (this isn't the Ritz Carlton in Boston so it's ok to smile more and say "Aloha" and "Mahalo") and that you must pay to park (same price for valet and self-$6.50 per day, so go for the valet, a nice amenity when it is raining and it rains on Kauai a lot!). Overall, it will be hard to find a nicer hotel with the same amenities and central location for your vacation dollar on Kauai. This was my fifth visit to Kauai and I wouldn't hesitate booking the Radisson again. Stay at the Radisson, save some money and with your savings take your loved one to Roy’s at Poipu for a romantic and delicious dinner and a helicopter ride over the island! Aloha and Ahueho! (Good-bye in Hawaiian)

Due to some of the negative reviews here, I was a little hesitant in booking my stay at the Radisson Kauai Beach Resort. But the price was right and it was only going to be for a few days. Upon checking in I was most pleasantly surprised and highly recommend the Radisson Kauai Beach Resort!

Everything seemed new and clean. Based on some of the other feedback, I suspect the Radisson has undergone a renovation. The large airy lobby has a tropical feel to it and the staff at the reception desk was always helpful. The hallways were clean and appeared to have new carpeting. We booked the lowest price room (about $160/night) and received a large room with a king sized bed. While it was considered a pool view room, we had a clear view of the ocean and could hear the surf at night. The room had a writing desk as well as a chaise lounge. The balcony had 2 chairs from which we could view the pool action. The bathroom was bright and clean with brown granite counters.

The pool area was great. There are two main pools. One is lagoon like and encircles a man-made rock outcropping (under which you can find the Jacuzzi). The other has a sandy beach. A pool bar is right there -- although we found the pina colada's to be a little small and overpriced. Just steps away you can find the beach. Swimming is not recommended here (as in most locations on Kauai) due to the high surf and strong currents. But it's great to walk or sun on.

They charge for parking whether you self-park or use the valet (which I find a little ridiculous). Go ahead and use the valet - it will only cost you a few bucks more for tips and you'll feel like you're splurging.

We had breakfast once in the restaurant. We had the buffet since it seemed most of the menu items could be found on the buffet and price-wise it would work out the same. The buffet was adequate but I wouldn't try it more than once. If you want a great breakfast, find the Kountry Kitchen restaurant a few miles up the road. They serve one of the best breakfasts I've had anywhere.

The location of the Radisson is terrific. You're just 10 minutes from the airport -- but we never heard a plane. You're half-way between Poipu and Princeville -- the central location makes getting to any destination fast and easy.

Don't go to the Radisson Kauai if you're expecting the Hyatt Resort in Poipu or the Princeville Resort. While those are true resorts, you'll also pay through the nose for them. The Radisson is a great value considering what you get for their low price. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
