“Nice hotel but with hidden feed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012 via mobile

We did lile this hotel but watch for the hidden fees. It cost 15$ a day for the parking and they don't talk about it during the reservation. However the staff was sympatic, it is on a great location and it is also very clean

“Not what I was expecting.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

The resort appeared lovely from the outside. It was quite beautiful in the lobby and at the pool as well. However, our flight brought us to the resort at 1:00. Check-in wasn't until 3:00 or 4:00. They told us we could go ahead and use the pool, but what am I going to do, sit by the pool with my luggage? We sat in the lobby for an hour and half before my husband got agitated and got us in a room. I understand that we were early and that the resort does not have to allow us in early, but it seems most places will attempt to accommodate.
I also didn't appreciate that the hotel advertised self-pay parking and valet, but when we arrived they only offered valet at the higher price.
The room was nice. The comforter seemed old, but the rest was lovely. The pools were amazing and the beach was beautiful. There were hawaiian singers and dancers poolside on Tuesday night.

“Nice pool and grounds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

We had a great experience at this resort. Beautiful grounds and pool-well maintained.
The biggest issue is parking-construction-all is valet right now and though trying their best the staff has too many cars to contend with. I guess normally they charge 13-16 dollars per DAY to park. That is a big add on and also they charge a $25 check in fees for towels and such.
The breakfast buffet was quite good-the service was not very good.
All in All in was a great trip

“short stay in Kauai”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

booked this hotel/resort through www.hawaiiconnection.com. Only a 30 minutes flight from Honolulu. We always use this site for Hawaii visits. close to airport, but hardly any aircraft noise. Best to rent a car to roam around on this lovely island. ( go to www.economycars.com ) cheap and no access!
though we arrived quite early, we were upgraded to an available partial ocean view room. Spacy room but not 100% clean. Room rates are very reasonable. great swimming pools in well maintained gardens close to ocean. However, not much of a beach. Only valet parking available, approx $ 14 a day. Restaurant does not offer great choices, just drive into Lihue for better food options like Roys restaurant.
My conclusion: good value for your money on beautiful Kauai.

“An absolutely beautiful place with a few probs.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

Kauai Beach Resort

Very attractive arrival area. Big and classy reception area. It gets even better. Superb, huge courtyard with magnificently manicured green lawns, colorful local plants, lots (!) of beautifully shaped, blue pools, waterfalls from volcanic rocks, gently swaying palm trees with the white-capped ocean waves in the background. Close to tropical paradise. Splendid. Forget about most Waikiki hotels. You have arrived. You don’t want to leave any more.

The personnel: Quite a few give you a genuine Aloha smile. The best, Ku’uipo, (meaning Sweetheart, like the Elvis love song in “Blue Hawaii” shot largely in the former Coco Palms Resort close by) the receptionist, full of welcoming warmth and professionalism. A pleasure to be attended to. The room maids exceptionally friendly and helpful. Even for a small gratuity many employees are really grateful.

Our room (2534, Ocean View; don’t spend extra money on Ocean Front, you just see water) had to be one of the best in layout, location, new décor and fantastic view over the entire colorful scenery. Everything’s sparkling clean. Made us perfectly happy, and we travel quite a bit.

But all is not well in Aloha land. The parking is bad, but “they are working on it.” At times not enough reception staff. The elevator does not always work. And a few more “buts.”

The food: Somewhat mixed. Breakfast Buffet ($19.95) good selection of fresh fruit. Good and plenty warm foods. The best hot bread-pudding ever. Special station for hard-working gal whipping up very tasty omelettes. Spotty service. Uncomfortable chairs, in need of replacement.

For Eggs Benedict drive down to Eggbert’s at close-by Coconut Marketplace. The best anywhere. But watch out what comes with it. “Toast or hash brown?” If you say hash brown, you may get an extra charge of $2.50. Had a few similar experiences on beautiful Kauai. For real Kaukau (Hawaiian food) go to Pono Market in Kapaa. Ono (delicious.)

The new G.M. with extensive international experience is running an absolutely beautiful place but still needs to solve a fair number of details. Would we come back? Yes, with pleasure.

Room Tip: Our Ocean View room 2534 had to be one of the best. Do not spend extra on Ocen Front.
